    We do a carburetor replacement on a Briggs & Stratton 8HP old school VOLT MASTER VX50V2E Generator.
    This unit was 32 years old and had a bad carburetor that was leaking gas after testing. The fuel in it was a good quality and the fuel tank/lines were in good shape also.
    Carburetor number is 390323, 394228 or 398170
    This unit has a model number 190417-4001-01 engine on it similar to many of the I/C (industrial/commercial) engines out there
    This engine is general purpose and is used in many different applications including industrial equipment, tillers, sod cutters, go karts, water or trash pumps, chipper/vacs, leaf vacs, leaf blowers, weed mowers, pressure washers, snow blowers, lawn mowers and much more.

      I don't know it's probably cuz he does things like tightening the bowl back on with 1/4 in. impact. Or trying to take the top off before taking out the main jet. I mean it was a good video but you asked.

    You do good work. I got a wood chipper with this motor I’ve been tinkering with and you’ve definitely shed some light on some stuff I can try

    I have an old Coleman powermate generator model 54 4000 with this Briggs 8hp engine. I'm going to have to try some of those adjustments before I change the carburetor. I may also put a new fuel filter in it and a new spark plug. This was a $60 craigslist find. I started up and ran and power a hunting camp family have set up for a generator. But I changed the oil and put a new air filter on it. Now it doesn't want to run. I also added new gas and a little sea foam to the tank.

      You can definitely try to clean it first and put some fresh gas. Depending on how bad it is the issue could be taken care of that way

    this is why you do a rebuild yourself instead of taking your equipment to shop like this, this is another R & R guy, rebuilt mine for under $30 - works excellent. The days of the knowledgeable tech is diminishing - throw the old part away, replace it- no help, replace something else.......

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  9 месяцев назад

      Unfortunately that is what us as Americans want. The rebuild would cost the customer more labor than the replacement by far and the carburetor will last just as well as the original. Any time you can do it yourself that is what you should do. That is why I show how to replace it, which is the cheapest and best way for someone who is not a mechanic to address an issue like this.

      You are right
      None of the aftermarket crap is very good

      Most of the aftermarket stuff gets a bad rep because of the people installing it do not know how to make modifications. From Honda, Kohler to OEM Huayi and others I still see metal in float bowls and bad manufacturing several times a week. Thanks for watching!

    They all have carb problems and bad gas
    But very very easy to fix and try to kit it first

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  Год назад +1

      Carburetor kit is $74 and at the very least a half hour additional labor. Why does anyone bother with this anymore? More expensive for me and the customer, then if you have a seat that won't seal who pays for your time and the kit when you have to replace the carburetor anyway?

    So i changed one of these carbs today on the same engine and it still doesn't go. I know its not the spark plug and in general theres compression. I had turned both screws all the way in then 1.5 turns out, still didn't go, then i backed out another turn, still nothing. Theres fuel in the carb, but since i don't work on small engines at all, i don't know where to go from here. Any advice?

      Try a little starting fluid or carburetor cleaner in the intake to get it going then adjust the main jet until it runs well. If it will not start on the starting fluid there is likely another issue

    I'm having problems with the size of the wire that is attached to the throttle and the governor lever, I made one but not sure if is too short or too large, having a real nightmare trying to set up this carburator.

      If you have your engine info I can get you a part number. You will be better of with the OEM linkages instead of trying to make one

      @@IndRepair thanks, I just figure it out, I left the wire a little long and bend it little by little creating an Z until I got the governor to do his job. It was fun. First time dealing with a governor. I won.

    • @IndRepair
      @IndRepair  4 месяца назад

      @@TrentonBarker Was the fuel drained before installing the carburetor? Normally, if it does not start I will turn the bottom screw in a little and start it on some carburetor cleaner then adjust from there. Turn the screw in as described in the video and adjust it out from when it starts to run poorly
