have a corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.
Spot-on when you said "I'm still just not a huge fan of this stuck-on touch screen look" I'd prefer having the infotainment system integrated within the dashboard just like the 4Runners and most Subaru vehicles. You do so well in articulating the PROS and CONS of the vehicles--KUDOS! Power on!
Great review! Way more informative than most other reviewers. It’s especially helpful that you don’t just drive on smooth roads, so I can get a sense of comfort on Midwest bumpy roads. Also, I think the tail end looks like an old Sienna van and quite prefer the looks over the RAV4.
One big difference is the original Rav4 was available with a manual transmission and came standard with 16 inch wheels (sensible wheels not fashion statements). Both of which I would prefer by vast margins !
14:53 I totally agree that's what the market needs. maybe if Honda makes a new Element, or Toyota builds that baby FJ. Even the Scion xB had more personality (though not the same kind). the next gen HR-V certainly isn't going to be anything special it seems.
I think toyota is so focused on safety and fuel consumption, they forget people want to drive their cars. This would have been a great small suv with a manual transmission and awd. Like a throw back to the original rav4. I need a new car and I've been considering this, or the taos, I like the digital screen on the taos but im afraid of the reliability of vw.
It really would be sweet if they threw in the stick from the corolla, but alas, awd and three pedals is left exclusively to the crosstrek in this class. I'd go with one of those or a cx30 if you're looking for reliability and fun. The mazda is much more fun to drive too.
Thank you! The s550 mustang is pretty sharp, I can see it in the headlights a little. I'm hoping that time comes before I run out of savings! This month has been pretty good so far though.
You do such a good review I'd like to see the comparison to the FWD version. Two things that should be different: a notably faster 0-60 (I've seen reported at 8.8 seconds) and a more precise sense of the ride difference. For example, does cornering near its velocity limits feel less secure?
Thank you, the fwd version should be notably quicker, we'll see! While I won't push these cars to their limits, I'll try the front wheel drive on the same roads to see if it feels more insecure for sure.
@@Realistick I owned a 2016 Corolla "Eco", an awesome 40+ mpg on the highway (I have a pic showing 50 on the register, though that was after a stretch of 45-50 mph) which wasn't so fast in curves, but had 2 great qualities: (1) on those round fwy on-ramps and off-ramps, once I turned the steering wheel, it pretty much continued without further adjusting, and (2) pushing toward its speed limit in curves, it held super secure. I also once owned an ever lower end Toyota, an early Echo, which has the same great steering as the Corolla. I'd rate the steering on both of those superior to any other car I've owned, mostly higher end than those. Currently I drive a 3rd gen Kia Soul (which I love) and while reviews are high praise on steering, it's clearly not as precise as either of my Toyotas...
I’m between rav4 or Corolla cross. I’m interested in safety, great fuel economy and good space in trunk. Also I live in Canada so it’s very important to me to have a nice performance in the snow and salty roads. Which one you recommend me? Thanks!!
I see a less-beefy Highlander when I see the Corolla Cross, not the Rav4 . . . I find the RAV4 a bit choppy and irregular to look at, while the CC looks like the Highlander's lil' brother who, to use your analogy, hasn't spent time in the gym.
Yes, I actually talked to the new owners too as I pulled back in that day. I haven't properly driven a Kona, I would personally go with the Corolla Cross for reliability and I like the interior more, it feels a little higher quality to me, but the Kona is a great option too and will be much more spry on the road!
@Isolated Pixels Is that new? I thought that was for like 5 to 10 year old models? I don't think the Kona is involved unless there is a new recall or lawsuit I haven't heard of. Toyota has their fair share of lawsuits too (my family and I have felt the effect of 3)
@@moeanthony9308 Still kind of beside the point since we're talking about the Kona. I agree though, I wouldn't get a Kona if reliability was a top concern of mine.
@@Realistick Kona is one thing but when you have been done wrong past and present in different capacities of Hyundai ownership, I would still think twice regardless. So is it really besides the point?
@@Realistick Agree sadly, although some hope in parallel lines to the Corolla SE given the same 2.0l engine/tranny (though AWD would be the best!). Also hope for a resurgence in manuals by curious millennials who want more fun and control in driving.
I’m a little troubled. Our 2018 CRV gets better gas mileage then this. I don’t know what Honda claims the mpg to be but for years now we’re getting 33.5 mpg.
It is smaller and lighter than Rav4 but has the same gas mileage. And price does not make sense. msrp is low but dealers markup these 7500 dollars. You cant find a cross at msrp but you can get mazda cx30 at msrp. I only buy toyotas but this one I give it to mazda.
The Cx-30 for me personally. I think this looks better and is slightly more comfortable than the cx30 due to the seats, and visibility is better too. It just depends what your priorities are.
My review was actually of the xle! My insert shots were the LE. The xle sold so quick that I couldn't finish my shots the first time around (which is why the insert shots or b roll have snow in them)
It doesn't help it, that's for sure. But it doesn't really "kill" it, it just pulls the plug on a driving experience that wasn't going to be zesty anyway.
Enjoying my Cross AWD out here in the desert, this vehicle is highly underrated!
After test driving the Honda, Suburu, and the Cross all three were excellent, but the Cross to me was the most comfortable ride...
In this age of overstylized cars with bigger than necessary wheels, I also kinda like that utilitarian look of the LE.
I too like the look of some "meat" on sidewalls. I could go for 225/65/17 on these small utes. Cushions the ride too.
Yes, 16" even better!

Waiting for the hybrid version of the CoCross.... in cypress green
Looks like a little Highlander 😁
One of the very few genuine reviewer paying attention to details including audio system! Good luck bro !
Thank you

Meh. As long as the map is closer to line of sight out the windshield, it's better.
I think it looks much better than the rav. Nice review..
I think I like it's size more than the new rav too, thanks!

did you drive corolla cross on the snow
? how dose it work
My L AWD is on the way (in a couple of months). Can’t wait. It’s replacing my 07 Rav4 Sport that I bought new.
Congrats!
I totally agree enough with the fake exhaust vents! Good job Toyota.. just show me a real exhaust pipe! Fewww!

Another great review. Keep up the great work bro
Thanks again for watching!
"the definitely not a flop C-HR" 😂🏆

still on the waitlist to get this car, its been 2 month now

Safety and low fuel consumption are the main things i look for in a car. Different people have different priorities.
"Super numb", you should drive a few 1970's luxury land yachts.
Those fall under dangerously disconnected haha

I like how it looks more than the Rav4. Don’t like the CVT though.

Offer the 6 speed stick in an SE model!

CVT kills the driving experience

I am waiting for the corolla cross hybrid coming out in Nov 2022 with almost 200 hp and an e-cvt( no belt, no pulleys, very reliable)
I don’t like it
