73 animals rescued from cruelty in Topeka, Kansas

- The Humane Society of the United States assisted the Topeka Police Department in rescuing dozens of cats and dogs in an alleged severe cruelty situation in Topeka, Kansas.
Local authorities served a search and seizure warrant on a residential property at approximately 8 a.m. on Jan. 30. Dozens of dogs, including many Great Dane-type dogs, and cats were found living in filthy, hazardous conditions throughout the debris-filled residence, with no apparent access to clean water. Veterinarians noted many of the dogs are severely underweight and that some of the animals appear to be suffering from eye, skin and upper respiratory issues, including a dog with several apparent untreated tumors in her skin.
The Humane Society of the United States transported the rescued animals to a confidential, safe location where they will continue to be examined by licensed veterinarians and receive much-needed care.
The assistance of the Humane Society of the United States was requested by the Topeka Police Department after concerns about the welfare of animals on the property were raised.

We need more laws against breeding animals. I see so many ads for puppies and the shelters are bursting at the seams. Millions are euthanized every year and it's out of control. When will animals have rights!

😭😭😭😭 I have had Great Danes all my life (77 now) and this makes my heart just break into a million pieces to see this! All but one of my babies were rescue Danes. There is NOTHING in the world quite like a Great Dane! I raised my son with Danes and they are the greatest family dogs! Maybe not always the brightest, but they make up for it with the gigantic amount of unconditional love they give to you! They are so very faithful and wonderful cuddlers!
I wish this was closer to us here in WA and I would love to adopt one! Mine are all over The Bridge now and I miss them so very much! I have had as many as 7 in my household back when I was fostering!
These precious souls remind me of my Zeus who had been rescued from a back yard, starved down to a skeleton and had a broken hip to boot! He was only about 2 years old when the rescue brought him in. We went out to see him and as we stood there talking with the rescue lady, this gigantic blue merle skinny Dane suddenly came running to me from what they called "The Cat House" where he'd been guarding kitties, broken hip and all, and planted his big head in my stomach and just let out the biggest sigh! I knew right then, he was mine! He had adopted me in his big beautiful heart!
I will never forget it as long as I live. We were graced with his presence in our family for 7 more years.
