  • What is the weight difference between the BBS CH-R and Porches lightest 19in Boxster Spyder wheels from the Cayman R and Boxster Spyder 987.2 .
in this video I weigh both with tires/tyres on.
Something to note is I have two different tiers/tyres on.
On the BBS CH-R I have Michelin Pilot sport Cup2 with between 5-6mm tread
The Porsche Spyder wheels have Michelin Pilot Super Sport 7-8mm tread
The rims on their own weigh approximately
    BBS CH-R 11.7 Kg 26lbs
    Porsche Spyder Front 9.7kg/21lbs Rears 10.6kg / 23lbs

This was genuinely interesting as my R came with the BBS' and I've always been wondering how much/if any lighter the Sypder wheels would be. Not much, it seems.

Just wanted to add...I have the Spyder wheels and doing research I read somewhere these are forged. Are the BBS also forged? If not, pretty impressive weight for being cast aluminum. I actually run cheaper cast wheels on my Porsche during track day which are probably heavier, but the grippier tires more than make up for the unsprung weight difference.

I think the BBS are cast, I do the same and use the BBS for track with the Cup2s and the Spyder wheels for the road 👍🏼

Not relevant for track days, but for road driving the 17s are much lighter and give miles more feel / feedback. Factory spec is a big narrow with 205 fronts. But you can fit 225s and pair that with the factory 235 rears for a nearly square setup that's really fun for road driving. This applies to the 3.4, too. You only need small spacers on the front to clear the calipers. I definitely find the 18s and 19s kill the fun for road driving a bit. Car just feels a bit dead and inert on the larger wheels.
