As a revert , this is one of the hardest things to try to give up, especially as an African American revert . Music was such a big part of our lives before Islam and for a lot of us we participated in singing for so long, so trying to find a balance between trying to be a proper Muslim and avoiding music has been my biggest struggle. May Allah make this easy upon us all Ameen

Music is like one of those things you feel like you can't live without if its part of your daily life, but when you gradually start keeping yourself from indulging it, you reach a point where you don't even feel the need for it. This rule applies to every type of harmful addiction or habit. You just need to always remember that you want to stop doing it.

If you leave it for the sake of Allah, then there is great reward. This life is temporary and if we give importance to afterlife which is Eternal in Heaven, insha Allah it will be easier for us to leave such habits.

Everyone is missing the point!! Music that we are hearing nowdays is Haram, look at the clips, listen to the text, look at the singers.
Everywhere where music is played you see only haram, look at concerts, look at disco's, look at bars, all about sex, drugs and alcohol.
if you watch a music channel you will understand that is forbidden, you are like these people who you are looking at, just be honest to youre self!
People are listing more music then that they are listen QURAN, and the they defend music, of course! because they are spending more time on music, the love it more than the quran! Addicted! why not addicted to reading and listening quran?????

Basically, whenever these kind of questions are asked the answer is always "who are you to judge/have thoughts about it" instead of giving real reasons why it may be haram. If you don't know the reason why it might be haram you high chance don't know what that hadid tells you. Even Allah wants us to ask questions and answer of course by it's right way it shows us to follow. But no, acceptence to anything without knowing why is popular in this age of history. Althought I agree with what he says in this video, you need to explain why to unknowers so they won't be distrackted by other false fatwas.

Asalaamualaikum. We are living at a time where time is ticking fast. Music can lead to addiction. With that being said, it can then be very time consuming. And then you got sports broadcasted on television which is another time consumer. And then you got soaps, movies, media, gaming platforms, paying a visit to your friends, time spent at work, etc. My question is, how much time do we have remaining for our Deen?

I think I know what website Labib was talking about bcuz I typed the whole same question on Google and came across this article. I also kinda relate to this young man bcuz I wasn’t exactly ‘fatwa shopping’ upon weakening belief but an encounter on YT chat confused me. The other person on the opposite claimed that music wasn’t totally haraam, i.e. we can listen to it as long as it does not have absurdities. The website later did not help the matter at all. But the sheikh clearing it up erased those doubts so jkh

The end of the time ahadeeth refers to the unlawful type of music, the popular music which has sinful content, activities, lyrics, manners and extravagance.
Not all music is haram! We have proof from the Ahadeeth -people playing percussion instrumental music when it's not associated with sinful activities, content, lyrics and sinful manner and prophet (saw) allowing them.
Hadith on Songs: People of Medina sing, play drums for the Prophet
Anas ibn Malik reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by some of the girls of Medina and they were playing their drums and singing the words, “Muhammad is an excellent neighbor! We are neighbors from the tribe of Najjar!” The Prophet said, “Verily, Allah knows that you are dear to me.”
      Source: Sunan Ibn Majah 1899
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani
Hadith on playing drums on the wedding
Al-Rubayyi’ bint Mu’awwidh reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came to me after performing our marriage and he sat on my bed. *Some young girls were playing the drums and singing in lamentation of my father*, who had been killed at the battle of Badr. Then, one of the girls said, “There is a prophet among us who knows what will happen tomorrow.” The Prophet said, “Do not say this, but continue saying what you had said before.”
      Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 3779
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Bukhari
Hadith on Vows: The Prophet tells a woman to carry out her vows by playing the drum
Abdullah ibn Amr reported: A woman came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and she said, “O Messenger of Allah, I have made a vow I will play the drum for you.” The Prophet said, “Fulfill your vow.” She said, “I have made a vow to sacrifice at a certain place where they slaughtered in the time of ignorance.” The Prophet said, “For an idol?” She said no. The Prophet said, “For an image?” She said no. The Prophet said, “Fulfill your vow.”
      Source: Sunan Abī Dāwūd 3312
Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani
      Hadith about entertainment on Eid:
Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to my house when two girls were beside me singing songs of Bu’ath. The Prophet laid down and turned his face to the other side. Then, Abu Bakr came in and spoke to me harshly, saying, “Musical instruments of Satan near the Prophet?” The Prophet turned his face toward him and he said, “Leave them alone.” When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I signaled to the girls and they left. It was the day of Eid and the Abyssinians were playing with shields and spears. Either I asked the Prophet or he asked me whether I would like to watch and I said yes. Then the Prophet made me stand behind him while my cheek was touching his cheek and the Prophet was saying, “Carry on, O tribe of Arfidah.” I became tired and the Prophet asked me, “Are you satisfied?” I said yes, so I left.
      Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 907, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 892

When I heard it was haram it took me a while to actually quit and I was thinking I couldn't live without it but I quit when I was 15 and it was an awesome decision like today its hard to find songs that don't have sex drug or alcohol references so it's not worth it.

For nasheed artists they don’t have that haram content but it really depends on whether or not they have instruments or only vocals. It is haram to listen to them if they use instruments because its literally music but if it they just have vocals and the lyrics they use doesn’t mock the deen or dont contain haram then it shouldn’t be an issue

Ibnul Qayyim رحمه الله said: “Singing [and music] is worse and more harmful than stories of emperors, because it directs [one] to adultery and fornication and it is the fountainhead of hypocrisy. It is the snare of the Shaytaan, and it intoxicates the intellect, Its obstructing (people) from the Qur’aan is worse than any way in which other types of phony speech blocks them, because the souls of people lean towards [sounds like this] and have the desire to listen to it.”

I stopped listening to it but I have a question is it okay to put music to dance (when I’m alone btw) I take dancing as a sport I do to stay active and some people do it to lose weight plus it’s fun thereoit gives me energy and I learned that it’s haram if I’m dancing alone by myself with no one around and if there’s there’s there’s an include anything inappropriate so it’s okay to dance, but can I put music?

But what is the difference between poetry and music. I’m my country a lot of the poetry could be deemed as music. People sing it and harmonise and clap. I was under the presumption that the kinda of music that is haram uses instruments and discuss foul things.

Even though sheikh summed it up beautifully as fatwa shopping i think he should have made this a small and comprehensive reply to why music is haram! And yes there are alot of people trying to carve ways out of the hadiths and trying to manipulate people into thinking that some things are not really haram while they actually are ... Yhats why we should always put down these liberal muslims and they should become real muslims... Jazak Allah khair

I am a bangladeshi and I know the people those who don't know Arabic accurately and started to tahqiq hadith.
They are mostly school and College going people (Age around 15-19). They don't have any academic study on this sector of tahqiq a hadis.
They openly spread the mazhab of ibn hazam andalusi (rah).
