    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  9 месяцев назад +4

      The Vittoria combo feels faster for sure. Also lighter weight on the scale. They do get pinged around or deflect off the rocks or bits of terrain more than the recon but I think in time I’ll learn to trust them. I’m excited to try them! Also, I’ve only had three rides on them so far so time will tell

  • @dw797
    @dw797 12 дней назад +1

    I really value your reviews! It's amazing how much your impressions match mine. XTR analog drive train and brakes, OneUp dropper post, low rise carbon bars, Salt Cycle carbon wheels (although I run the slightly heavier standard carbon version because I can't refrain from jumping into rock gardens)... Chris at Salt Cycles helped me build my dream bike 2 yr ago, a Ripley V4. I run a 2.4 DHR on front and a 2.3 Aggressor on rear and although I would love to have a 21.08 lb bike I value every extra gram in the tires because they help me hook up on the chunky trails here in New Mexico.
    But the real reason I'm posting here is my wife is a weight weenie due for a new bike and it's between this (pretty much the exact build) vs the new Pivot Mach 4 SL with its super cool flip chip that turns it into a featherweight trail bike vs an XC race weapon. Working with Chris now on a dream build. I know you raved about both bikes, and it'll come down to her specific preference. But I'd love to hear your thoughts about which you'd choose if you could only have one bike. I know the Yeti would come in slightly lighter on the scale but with the DW link suspension on the Pivot I know which I'd personally choose for myself...

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  11 дней назад

      Well…. Fun for you wife!! Tough choice. I like both bikes for different reasons. The ASR is so light and fast. My daughter raced on the ASR this entire year and loved it. For the true racer/weight weenie it’s the bike!! As you might guys, the M4 is more versatile and still very quick… but doesn’t feel as feather light as the ASR. So to answer your question, if I could only choose one between the two, Mach4 SL! The ASR keeps you in that aggressive race position where the M4 can chill out a bit and do more trail duty. Good luck! The only negative thing I can say about the M4 is it’s heavier than the ASR and Scalpel… but my wife was on an Exie this season and will be on the Ranger for 2025…. And would never consider the ASR for her🤷‍♂️ 👍✌️

    • @GumneManche
      @GumneManche 10 дней назад

      @@mtbyumyum We just got off the phone with Chris (I hadn't read your reply before then), and we went ahead and ordered the Pivot! She got to tool around a little on each bike in the parking lot of a local bike shop (they don't have near the customizability of Salt Cycles and couldn't compete on price, and of course there's the BERD wheelset we need from Salt Cycles). Anyhow, we went with XTR, Carbon cranks, stem, seat, OneUp dropper post and the same Vittoria tires Chris put on your ASR. I run most of that on my bike except I didn't splurge on carbon cranks and stem, and pay the weight penalty for more trail-oriented tires and Onyx hubs (so I'm way out of the ballpark but it works for me). But back to her bike, it's basically the lightest build you can get on a DW link suspension bike and it's perfect for her. Will probably tip the scales somewhere just under 23lb. The only down side is with the holidays upon us we're about 3 weeks out for the build to be complete.

      @mtbyumyum  9 месяцев назад +1

      Just depends on what your purpose of riding is. If you’re not racing, but still want a fast rolling and confidence inspiring cross country tire. It’s hard to pass up the recon race. I would probably take that over the Vittoria combo that I have on this lightweight ASR, just because they hold a line slightly better, and have more volume. That said, after three rides I’m pretty happy with the Vittoria combo! In short, if you’re not racing, I’d go with the Maxis recon race 🤙 and even if you are racing, that was the tire I used on my last race and finished 7th💪😆

    Sick! Makes me laugh though that we all weigh bikes without the pedals...I mean, it would weigh even less if more parts were removed as well...maybe remove the grips for an even lighter stated weight?? LOL.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  9 месяцев назад +3

      I've seen enough comment like this and said nothing but I'll inform you... we don't weigh bikes without pedal or bottle cages, computers or other mounts in an effort to get the weight lower... bikes are weighed in this manner because those items are subjective. My pedals might weigh 11 oz, others maybe 9 oz and someone else maybe a pound... it creates unmeasurable nuance in the accounting of the weight... hope this makes sense? Also, I know people who weigh bikes without sealant in the tires... for that I would agree with your sentiment, that is ridiculous... all tubeless tires need 2 oz of sealant.

    • @alexrandall9966
      @alexrandall9966 9 месяцев назад

      You've already modded the stock bike anyhow. Plus all you need to do is put your own pedals on every time. The comparison remains the same and then you actually have a useful figure rather than an irrelevancy.

    Question - you mention the Epic Evo 7 was less confident than this - how much of that 'lack of confidence" is due to the up Rockshox 3P suspension? Still an awesome review!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  9 месяцев назад

      With so many different variables, it difficult to know for sure. The asr for sure has more support in the shock/suspension and just feels a bit for damp and controlled… less ridged than the evo7

  • @samd6405

    Does the bike need the grip twist/remote lock out? I’m thinking of doing fox shock, but no 3-pos remote switch available. So, can you ride in open mode always or just manually switch between open/pedal/lock.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  9 месяцев назад +1

      100% not necessary to have the sus lockout... bike pedals and climbs great with the sus open! I think this bike would be rad with fox sus! Do it!

    Ok, being that I HATE how Yetis ride. How is it compared to the Pivot Mark 4 SL and Ibis Exie bikes you have in terms of having to front load the wheels to where its a lot of fricken work to keep it from washing out, while the Pivot & Ibis bikes are more neutral riding position. Also, the Yeti SB100 & 115 had that "hidden" flexing problem, does this have it? I say "hidden" because none of the presenters hyping those as the greatest things slice bread told us about the rear triangle flexing like crazy & was a problem? I'm a Pivot & Santa Cruz guy, and to a certain point Ibis so trying to decide which way to go with an XC but capable bike.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  9 месяцев назад +2

      I'd say if you're already not a "Yeti" fan, go with the Ibis Exie or Pivot M4 SL. You won't be disappointed! That said, this is nothing like the current Yeti lineup of bikes... this is a single pivot bike... it is without the Switch Infinity link you'll see on all other current Yeti's including the SB100 and 115 you mentioned.

    • @cypriano8763

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  9 месяцев назад

      I'm unsure about the downcountry thing... but the Element has a very long wheelbase and just rides and feels like a trail bike... the ASR feels and rides like a xc bike, regardless of geometry. For example, the Cannondale Scalpel SE has very xc geometry but it just rides more like a short travel trail bike... not as nervous or twitchy as an xc bike... like the ASR for example.
