I've been diggin' Big Al and the Wildweeds since 1967 - No Good To Cry, Happiness Is Just An Illusion - great tunes never die!
No Good To Cry got me to this video (and Bonnie Raitt got me back to Al in the first place). The Wildweeds played at my church hall in 1967. Have always been a huge fan but haven't looked for videos! Go Al!!
What a great song this is ! Big Al Anderson - ex NRBQ
Best damn rock n roll song ever released. Period.
Big Al Anderson is a phenomenal talent whose career I've been following for decades, in NRBQ and as a solo artist. His music goes beyond any genre into the territory of pure joy.
Probably one of the most under rated musician ever , loved seeing him play all over New England with NRBQ as well
Underated ?? By whom ?
“It’s always nice to have yourself some fun. ‘Cause life is short and work is never done.” Wise words, mr. Al.
Big Al Anderson is an American musical treasure!
Al Anderson...totally, completely underrated as a singer, guitarist and songwriter. Saw him in the 60s and followed his career. Great, great, GREAT talent. Love his work.
Watch Al knock this great rockabily performance out of the park and then realize that he is a humble guy as well. He once said of Steve Ferguson who he replaced in NRBQ, "Fergie could do things that I can't touch" and he organized and headlined a benefit for Steve when he was dying of cancer. A humble guy who cares about others; that makes listening to his music even more enjoyable for me.
Big Al. Legend back East. Thanks for this!
Big Al is a genuine genius, rockn , swingin and good times
Now THAT''S what a fantastic live mix is. Whoever recorded this one knew just what he was doing. Al's playing and singing is OUT OF THIS WORLD as is the performance of those backing him here. This tune is SMOKIN' and I'm a smilin' the whole way through. Thanks Al and all involved in bringing this!
Growing up as a fellow musician in the town of Windsor, Ct Al and the Wildweeds to this day are an inspiration to all of the cats in town that started in the music business from back in the day. I had the good fortune in my early bands to open before and after the release of No Good To Cry. The Big Man's talent never disappoints and from way back in the day I knew that he was going to make an impact in the music industry as a performer and song writer. From the Visuals ,Altones , Six Packs, Wildweeds & NRBQ he was not going to be denied. See you at The Infinity in Hartford on 12/28!!!!
Without a doubt, Big Al lives up to his name in the music industry and has made CT proud. Saw his show at the Hartford Infinity Hall on 12/28 and it rocked! Doug - you're so lucky to have grown up with him back in the days when it all started.
Windsor? I'm going to say you were a 880 guy. Tirebiter? Or street temperature?
Big Al can sure stir up a tornado. The band and the production, as lindyfralin hwound states below, are tremendous.
Big Al can still play that guitar like a small animal only he can barely control. Incredible
Just found Big Al after posting on You Tube when he was playing with the Mavericks. Checking out all his music now. Thanks to all information I needed to research Big Al.
Big Al! Another fine cover of a great Stephen Bruton song! Nice!
I've listened to this 100 times this month. Great fun.
Happy Birthday Al...
7/26
Thank you as an inspiration to a younger (5 years) Connecticut Yankee musician.
Hope you had a great day.
I got to meet Al once, long ago, and he's one of the nicest dudes ever.
Love Big Al👍🎶🎶🎶🎶
Legend.
Lot of negative stuff as far as the music industry....but, theres always Big Al. Anything he touches is memorable......
A guitar solo hammering and splintering the root chord, but he makes it work.
Rockabilly meets Sun Ra.
I've always loved Big Al, he writes, and plays, and signs everything so well. I met him once. He is a big guy, my felt like I had to look straight up to look him in the eye.
I meant sings, not signs (dang)
Rockinroll Yes!Yes! Saw Him At Lupos Heartbreak Hotel live NRBQ 80-Something.
Yeah Al! Can't wait to see you this summer at the Narrows Center.
This song is so BAD ASS I keep coming back to it. What an amazing sound from each instrument. The drum mix is perfect, the slide is out of sight, Al's Tele is COOKING, the lady is cool as ice and a great singer. Everything about this song and production is the ABSOLUTE FINEST I've heard and seen in a Loooonggg time. If you like the mix too, check out NRBQ's "Ain't it Alright" live at Fitzgerald. Terry, Scott and the boys did a killer job and the mix is also OUT OF THIS WORLD! Thanks again BIG AL and the HEADLINERS. I cannot believe Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off" video has nearly 700 million views and this masterpiece only 5,620. The world is sadly missing out.
Great post.
Piano is mixed too low.
Perfect post about a perfect song. Thanks!
Yup yup
This song should be played on the radio.
Helen Forster is so delightful!
Hey that's the guy from NRBQ !
Well, yeah. And Carlene Carter's tour band, too.
Groovy Baby So Well Done 10-4 Pray For Peace Northern USA
Sounds like Chuck Berry! Good job, big Al.
brilliant
Loving it!
The female backup singer to Al's right looks a lot like actress Laura Linney. Anyhow, she's great!
Helen Forster. The lap steel player's wife.
And show hostess.
He's my friend Ethan's father. He took us to Riverside when I was 15 in 88
I am a little confused as to why there are so many comments on this post about Al Anderson. Yes, I know the NRBQ connection here but Al isn't on the stage. Johnny Spampinato, Joey's brother, is playing guitar along with Aaron Spade on the other side of the stage. Chandler Travis is playing bass. Rikki Bates on drums. Forgive me for stating the obvious.
Yes, Al is singing in
reminds me of fine fine fine
awesome
Dig it!
Who is the blonde singing back up? Have now seen here in a few videos of ETown---cute!
And yes Big Al Anderson is Great--even with NRBQ he kicked butt!!
"even with NRBQ"??!?!? I will counter that Anderson totally kicked ass that strayed kicked with NRBQ, and neither he nor them has served up the same level of kicked butt since he left the band. Oh, and the chick singing is the wife of the fella who thinks himself a lap steel player.
Helen Forster . . . her husband plays the lap steel.
Nick Foresters wife
Very like Almost Grown by Chuck Berry
An homage'.
@@Baci302 All Rock & Roll is an homage to CB.
@@FiveFigsDigital You got that right!!!!
Who is playing rhythm guitar during Al's solo? Is it the lap guit?
Yep, the lap. Plus, the keyboards, bass and drums fill it out.
It's called a weissenborn but I'll be damned if I can find the name of the musician anywhere
That's Nick Forester, he is the host of Etown and Hot Rize and the singer is his wife and co-host Helen
@@TomSrsich thanks
Who's the girl?
Helen Forster. Her and and her husband Nick Forster (on the laptop steel guitar) are the hosts of the eTown show.
Quite a talented couple. Helen's got a great voice! Thanks for the info.

The Grateful Dead's Bob Weir joins eTown hosts Nick and Helen Forster and guitarist Steve Kimock for this rendition of his song Only A River
I HAVE MIXED FEELINGS ABOUT THIS SONG, HAVING WORKED IN A DRUG AND ALCOHOL REHAB FOR 2 YEARS. ALCOHOL CAN RUIN YOUR LIFE.
WHY ARE YOU YELLING
@@benjclarke3010 because he's drunk
@@drjawn BAD EYES.
It can, but can being the key word, I know so many people who drink socially and enjoy alcohol, living a normal life. I'm sorry for your struggles, my father died when I was 18 from alcohol poisoning, but I can surprisingly still enjoy songs like this
I understand. It ran in my family. I've seen what it does. And I have to watch myself. And if I'm with people who can't, I don't.
Almost grown....chuck berry copy
Hey Nick... heard you stealing Waldo's slidin' steel licks!!
