Late seventies, went to a nightclub North Shore of Long Island to see a big name band. NRBQ was the first act. Funny, I can't remember who the headliners were. NRBQ rocked that place so hard the big boys came out shaking their heads, they were licked before they started.

Have loved Al Anderson since the Wildweeds days, was an avid NRBQ fan. Absolutely love his soulful voice, am so disappointed to see him stray from his original roots and go into country material! There are enough rockers going country these days, but Big Al was one of the originals from the 60's! Of course he can be great at any genre, but there are very few originals around that still have their voices intact to stay with their original music and style. A bummed boomer.

don't understand why you consider Al's "going into country material" straying from his roots; his roots include country as much soul, blues, and rock. IMO Big Al, as always delights and amazes with his performances of "Poor Me", "I Ain't Ever Slowin' Down", "Drinking on the Weekend" and many more.

So nice to read your comment. There's very few of us left who even know who the Wildweeds were let alone NRBQ.
I was bummed when the 'Weeds broke up but Al brought it to a new level with NRBQ.
Both bands were the most fun anyone could have.
It sucks getting old but as Al sang to us: It's no good to cry..,
      Cheers,

Al’s always been a great songwriter...I was sad to see him leave the Q, but it was a great opportunity for the rest of the country to appreciate his skills. See you in Fall Riviera on Boxing Day, man

Your comment and your screen name are incongruous, how ironic! 😏

This version is 100% better than the one I saw on RUclips of some guys attempting this song on the street.

Great tune, great performance but the generic piano solo sure got me wishing that Terry were on the keys with Joey and Tommy rolling that groove right along.

Tasty as always ... did not come here to be political, but a change in administration could mean performers such as this are again invited to the White House, etc... for instance. Al deserves a national showcase, no doubt.

Much better than the "Poor Me" of Shania Twain.
