Came here to get an idea of which spanners to take specifically.
"And I just have these ones specific to my vehicle".
It's like secret knowledge no one on the internet is willing to share.
I realize there are going to be grey areas between makes but surely some or even most of them are going to be relevant across the board.
All that other stuff was simple. The spanners are what people want to know about, mate.
Take spanners that fit your vehicle. If it’s metric take metric. If it’s imperial take imperial spanners.
@@MadMatt4WD Thanks. Yeah, you can minimise down further than that. Most vehicles will require five or six, not a complete set. Appreciate the reply though. Cheers.
Yes they can. I dont usually bother to much although I take out the spanners I know dont fit.
@@MadMatt4WD Yep. Good call. That sounds like a better place to start. Recently bought myself a FULLY modded Nav (after my Troll became to long in the tooth and prices inhibited my ability to replace like for like) and trying to work out what spanners I need in a minimal tool kit.
Seems it still comes down to time and experience but have been hoping to find the info online is all.

LOL you carry more tools in your 4WD than I have at my home garage.

Where can I get that socket set? I live in the US and we mostly get sets which include metric and SAE. I don't need the SAE for my automotive needs and even Amazon has only a handful of metric only sets.

Treat yourself to some JIS screwdrivers, you Japanese vehicles will thank you.
Philips screwdrivers should never be used on Land Cruisers.
Harvey. I’ve been a mechanic for 30 years and have never heard of JIS. No one talks about them under my rock I guess. Anyway I’m going to look into getting one although some of the research I did suggests they’re not as needed these days. Anyway thanks for teaching me.
@@MadMatt4WD JIS is little known about outside Japan.
JIS stands for "Japanese Industry Standard."
Philips screws were designed for factory assembly, they naturally cam out at a certain torque. Great for assemble but not so clever for undoing 10 years later.
This wasn't good enough for the Japanese, hence JIS fasteners.
Now if you use a JIS on a Philips, no harm done, but if you use a Philips on a JIS fastener, it will damage the head.
People would always complain that the Japanese make their fasteners out of softer steel, it's not true, use a JIS and there won't be any damage.
Once you learn, it becomes an obsession. Lot's of information out there;
Look for a company called Vessel, they make great JIS screwdrivers, especially their Impacta screwdriver, that is a great tool
