''What's a memory card ?'' WOW that hit me a lot harder than I expected. Times flies if younger gamers are now old enough to be asking that kind of question!
Good to see this get some coverage. Hopefully those issues in use case #3 can get resolved for you/similar folks in that situation Adam. Thanks for the video.
I got my PS2 back in 2011 but it didn't have a memory card so I just played the games I had without saving until I got my first memory card which I still use to this day. It was about $20 CAD and came with a capacity of 64MB which meant it was a third party one since the ones Sony makes only have 8MB. It works fine enough, though I think some games such as Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity may have compatibility issues (e.g. corrupted save file).
I feel your pain, I got a PS2 for Christmas, it was a bundle with two games including Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando but it didn't come with a memory card so until I got one I had to keep playing Ratchet & Clank from the very beginning
@SkellerART when I got my PS1 from my relative back in the mid-2000s I got 5 games with it and like the PS2 I didn't have a memory card so I would play the beginning of Pac Man World over and over again for years until I got a memory card and even then it wasn't until I played the game on my PS3 that I got close to finishing the game.
I absolutely love the idea of a modern version of the memory cards with virtually limitless storage with saves that could be backed up to PC to switch between console gaming with OG hardware/emulation on PC and downloaded from the internet. I have been meaning to get Memcard Pro's for the three platforms they have already been released on
Thank you so much for making this video! I got mine a few months ago, and thought I was crazy with the HDLoader incompatibility. I thought maybe I didn’t set something up correctly. DBZ Budokai 3 stutters on OPL for some reason, and HDL works perfectly, but I noticed the Game ID feature wouldn’t save it correctly. But thank you for your video, I can rest easy knowing I’m not the only one! I hope memcardpro team can figure out a way to optimize it for HDL that would actually be a dream come true!
I ordered one of my recommendation from a friend who had the original. Gotta say, I love it. Its nice to sunset my old PS2 memcards for something more flexible and feature rich.
Actually, you missed one of the best parts of the card. If you connect that card via USB cable to a PS3, there's an option in the menu where you can use it as if was the official Sony Memory Card reader for the PS3. You can use that to transfer saves back and forth.
It's unfortunately a bit buggy (at least in my experience with my BC PS3). The memcard pro 2 randomly reboots when entering the memory card screen and it also reboots when loading a game/app. Latest firmware was supposed to fix this issue but I still see the same problem.
I only use PS2 official Sony memory cards. I had a 16mb card from another brand and it suddenly broke down. and I lost all game saves. I had 300 hours in the GT4 and I lost it all. And more games.
The problem with modchips is that there are many different ones/variants/clones/revisions, so it is difficult to make stuff that patches code like FMCB fully compatible with everything. Change one thing and another thing breaks.
These are great for people but I'm gonna stick to old school and carry on using the official Sony memory card even if the saves are badly unoptimized and ballooned in size.
some games need setting tweaks to run on hdl and opl and have per game settings like in opl you can change setting so the game thinks it running of a dvd and i use to have issues and there's a hdloader compatibility list which have fixes for some game like turn mode 1 2 and 3 on
Neat card I would like to mess around with it, i have ps2 with hdd and bvm crt monitor but after playing on pcsx2 emulator with hi res graphics blur disabled faster load times and save states there is no turning back to original hardware.
I'm always so jealous of people who have these HDMI mods. They're never in stock, too hard for me to solder, or no mod services near me are available. 😢 I've always emulated PS2, but there was a time where I had a fat model with freehdboot and component cables. I miss that thing like crazy.
Hey Adam, does the additional memory paired with McBoot allow for the MemCard Pro 2 to be a hub for translation patches that can be applied to games? Has that been something you've tinkered with?
ADAM! I know you work at the company who made this ( LOL ) can you make sure they make a ceramic white MemCard Pro 2? I need one for my PSX. Please Adam, we're counting on YOU.
Does this work on BC PS3 Fat with the memory card adapter? Would be pretty cool to keep all my PS1/PS2 saves on one card and be able to copy them back and forth to the drive. Even with the non BC PS3 I think you can use memory cards with PSN digital copies of PS1/PS2 games.
@@AdamKoralikthey work just like a memory card adapter just use the usb port and it will auto detect it's hooked up to a ps3 and turn into a virtual memory card adapter for you to freely transfer your saves onto the ps3 and vice versa ... It's pretty neat tbh
You can plug it to a PS3 via usb, but before you plug it in you need to hold the right button (button above the usb slot). This will give you a menu that allows you to choose a PS3-specific mode. It doesn't auto detect (at least it didn't for me) and requires this process always. From there, you'll be able to access it as an external memcard to copy saves off to your PS3's internal memory card (you will have to select the right memory card slot on the memcard pro 2, so you'll probably want to use the browser interface). I did have some issues where the memcard pro 2 would randomly reboot when entering the memory card screen on your PS3, making it lose the PS3 mode. 8bitmods acknowledged this as a known issue that was supposed to be fixed with the latest firmware that just came out a month ago, but I still see the same issues after updating so maybe it's still being worked on.
may have to get a hold of one of these! especially if I can find a way to replace the wife's US system. sounds like I may need to find a fat one? currently only have a couple Japanese slims in our household.
But can it run freemc boot? No seriously can it? I've been meaning to get my one spare 16mb card setup to soft mod my ps2 slim so I can backup my games and play the backups to preserve the original disc
Umm... If I get 8 of them with the 256GB micro SD, that means that I'll have 2TB worth of memory storage! Assuming that I use 2 multi taps... The ultimate PS2 may be in the works! Just kidding on doing that but, I am going for having 8 8MB cards and 2 multi taps.
I was literally hanging around a 19 year old at Retropalooza who bought a PS2 and didn't know what it was, this was a week ago. Hence, the explanation.

Not too surprising, Someone i worked with referred to the floppy disk as the 'save icon'

A memory card with WiFi, we are truly living in the future.
It's forever impressive to me what the PS2 modding community and PS2 fans continue to do.

Hell yeah! The memory cards from back in the day were great at the time but desperately needed an upgrade for modern times. This thing is sick
Pretty cool capabilities for physical hardware!

This also works pretty flawlessly with the MC2SiO.
people asking "what's a memory card"? what?. that's insane... I don't know if I feel old, surprised, or what.
Thanks Adam ur the best!!!
Its insane that you make your ps2 region free for all ps1 and ps2 games without modchip.
How? By loading ISO’s via HDD or actual discs? Please let me know!

Not to my knowledge.

You should review the PS2 Forgetful Jones Memory Card by Sesame Street.
Hey Stone Age Gamer…send him a GameCube one. It solves the dreaded bug of having separate memory cards for different regions
