thank you so much, this video of yours and the one in which you play them unplugged made me see the relation between both sounds Plus, your Yamaha SA-50, what a beauty!
I'd propose that this GUITARIST is more responsible for his nice, distinctive tone than are his various pieces of equipment. That's to say, HE has nice tone! He's got a concept of what a jazz guitar should sound like, and he tries to get it with whatever equipment he uses........ So, If you put me or other guitarists in a room with the same stuff, we'd all end up sounding mostly like OURSELVES, and different from EACH OTHER....A lot of people say, "Tone is in the fingers". They're right that tone is very personal, and varies from individual to individual; but if they were more accurate, they'd say, "tone is in our imagination, and in our brains".
Thank you for taking your time doing this video! I always thought that would be interesting use some "unconventional" types of guitars for clean traditional jazz. I think it's the first time I heard a strat sounding like that. Nice job!
+Clayton Murray yes, but the man has it - it still sounds great! You are right - the strat is moreover that blues guitar on which you could have like 4 fret bend or super-fast parts played with ease, but the jazz is not quite the music for it. I play it on a very solid (about 4,5 kgs no weight reduction) electric guitar, which is made mostly from walnut and has that great warm tone...
So wrong there, and why do luthiers fuss over tone woods? Woods create the resonance, sustain and dynamics that the pickups then carry....the evidence and research is against you on that one mate...
Four Owls why are there muslims? why are there christians? why are there jews? because they believe. they have faith that it's true. but we all know they can't all be true at the same time... same thing with 'tone' woods. the sustain/sound will be only be affected up to a certain solidity of the wood. and pretty much all woods pass that standard. the next thing that will change the sound/sustain in the next element in the chain, which are the saddles, (trem block, if used) nuts, and strings.
I am trying to find an informative video of some playing a Hohner HJ5 Slimline Archtop Electric. I am considering purchasing one but would like some professional review comments. Any comments on this guitar? BTW, I like the way you present multiple slimlines. Thanks
What guitar was used to do the strumming on the background track? I am more of a strummer, so I would like something to play low strings and not sound muddy. Thanks for doing this video and exposing me to these. I could not have done this in guitar shops.
***** Hey I really love your cover of this chord progression! Is there any song title for this particular playing of autumn leaves? Or do you have any recording of you playing this chord? I would like to know because the playing you did in this video is fantastic!
Mark Spencer Thanks. I typically play and record loop every time I need it. There are number of videos on youtube that may teach you how to play autumn leaves, step by step.
there are many good guitars in that price range. You should first choose the type, i.e. - full size jazz box (like Emperor Regent), the best choice for classic/standard jazz with wooden bridge, floating pickup and resonant big box all contributing to a specific sound. ruclips.net/video/DiWA59r31Ys/видео.html ruclips.net/video/D6dglMI75VY/видео.html - thinline hollow body (famous Gibson ES-330, Epiphone Casino) or semi-hollow thinline (famous Gibson ES-335) ruclips.net/video/t8aJaIVwwjI/видео.html ruclips.net/video/6d2AQWs1CEk/видео.html You should free feel to check my other videos for some other models that didn't make it in a combo sets. Also, there are couple of videos demonstrating how guitars sound unplugged.
I've been playing electric guitar for 50 years and all of these sound very similar to my ear. Get the least expensive model. Your audience certainly can't tell the difference. Just my two cents.
That may be valuable information for someone too. Same setup for all guitars. But they do sound and feel different unplugged for which I made videos as well.
don't expect this kind of sound of a jazz guitar! Sustain heard here is not real, the cam compresses the sound in such a way that it sounds like a real compressor...
Way too much compression, whatever the cause. "Pop"-y attacks and squashed tone. I'm sure all the guitars sound much sweeter and different from each other in person. But nice comparison. Ibanez rules!
1. Epiphone Emperor Regent ........ 0:01
2. Gibson ES-125 ........................ 0:57
3. Kay Galaxie ............................. 1:55
4. Global 330 ............................... 2:54
5. Ibanez AS120 ........................... 3:55
6. Yamaha SA-50 .......................... 4:55
7. Ventura Gold Top ....................... 5:52
8. Fender Standard Stratocaster ..... 6:51
the ibanez as120 was my favourite sounding one.
Your channel is criminally underrated. I really dig how you have a lot of vintage Japanese and under-the-radar American guitars.
Ibanez has a smooth sound
Great playing and my favourite was great Epiphone Emperor.
Nice video, nice music, nice playing. I like the Ibanez AS120 best.
Ibanez AS120 my best. Enjoyed them all.
thank you so much, this video of yours and the one in which you play them unplugged made me see the relation between both sounds
Plus, your Yamaha SA-50, what a beauty!
Excellent video. Very helpful. Got my eyes on a Ibanez AS120 and this confirms it. Thanks!

not a single word been said in this video, yet the best comparison of all the video I have watched. (y)
You made all the guitars sound great with your fantastic playing .
Great Playing , love the bluesy Jazz sound
It's funny, I liked the strat the best. I enjoyed the video and meant no harm in my first comment.
thanks for comment, no offense taken.
It is beautifully designed and yes it is
Thanks, this is a great comparison! I have yet to see something this put together and easy to compare with other guitar sounds.
Nice examples. Helps a lot.
Very nice tune.
Thank you for taking your time doing this video! I always thought that would be interesting use some "unconventional" types of guitars for clean traditional jazz. I think it's the first time I heard a strat sounding like that. Nice job!
The Fender Standar Stratocaster, has more clarity to it. I like that definition better.
A Stratocaster wouldn't be my first choice to play jazz; but it's great for a different tone.
I liked the Ibanez and the Kay. Do you own these gems? Lovely playing.
yes, I still have them. thanks.
ibanez as120 is my fav
The stratocaster seems to me the least plummy and fitted for jazz.
I like comping on my strat but I don't like solo sounds on it for jazz, too thin

+Peter Y your body wood does not affect your tone. pickups do.
So wrong there, and why do luthiers fuss over tone woods? Woods create the resonance, sustain and dynamics that the pickups then carry....the evidence and research is against you on that one mate...

They all had a universal thinness to them. Next time do a little comping on each guitar to give a fuller representation of each guitar.

the es 125 sounds the best, the Kay is off tune at the higher registers. I like the es175 and the Guild X150
What guitar was used to do the strumming on the background track? I am more of a strummer, so I would like something to play low strings and not sound muddy.
Thanks for doing this video and exposing me to these. I could not have done this in guitar shops.
sorry, I don't remember.
What type of jazz is this?
swing. Its jazz standard "Autumn Leaves" chord progression.

I have just one more question, with all the guitars you play, which is your favorite?
Slobo ; pitao si me za cover od Balaševića ;to je midi file ;urađeno na keyboards Yamaha. Pozdrav.
Do you think wooden bridges on a full size archtop sounds better compared to a tuneomatic bridge?
I am not sure if it is better but wooden sounds more jazzy unplugged.
@@TRIOuser thanks
please give me tips on good jazz guitars under 800$. guitars that you have experienced

Mmmmmm....... Nearly crapped myself when you hit that note at 2.42, still.... that's jazz
oh, there is more that just that, but video is more about tone than my playing.
Ibanez.
The "52 Gibson 125 is my favorite; the Fender Strat my least favorite.
Ibanez

Appalling attitude...just MY two cents!
Makes sense. Why venture into a bar with an expensive hand-made archtop when a drunk can dump his beer into it?
Great playing but all the guitars sounded the same. The audience will never tell the difference.
That may be valuable information for someone too. Same setup for all guitars. But they do sound and feel different unplugged for which I made videos as well.

well, this is sound from the amp directly into computer, no mic.
Way too much compression, whatever the cause. "Pop"-y attacks and squashed tone. I'm sure all the guitars sound much sweeter and different from each other in person. But nice comparison. Ibanez rules!
that is what you call jazz ??????
For play in this way, a broom is more than enough for you....
:)
Ñ
None of those guitar sounds good in my opinion but it could also be the playing style and the amp used.
.... "killer" della musica.Prova a darti all'ippica.
BELLA ZIO!!!!!!!
Poor selection of jazz guitars
