I have been in IT for 21 years, at one point I owned my own PC shop. By far this is the best, most clearly explained, build Ive seen anyone else do. I also think the part choice is really good too!
Hey @Bluewhisper, very nice video and Pc. Just as a tip for the M.2 SSD. There must be a standoff in the Motheroard accessories that you can use to screw down the M.2 and than you can screw the SSD heatsink into the standoff. That way you get the best cooling for your SSD at the top slot while also making use of the PCIe 4.0 speeds :)
Looooove it, and RIP the RAM. Sending those back for RMA is like earning a veteran star in PC building :) It happens or will happen to everyone that builds their own.
Pretty sure it wasn’t faulty, she put the two kits aside each other in b1 and b2 instead of b2 and a2. They’re meant to run in dual channel and she put them next to each other for both corresponding kits. Oh well at least she got it to boot which matters most!
@@ThePdog3k anti-static wristbands are totally unnecessary. Go watch JayzTwoCents where he tested just how much static energy it would even take to damage PC components (he intentionally shocked various parts of a PC while it was powered on and couldn't harm a single component no matter how much he tried). Under almost any ordinary circumstances there's no reason why you would need to worry about ESD when building a computer. Components these days are incredibly resilient.

Awesome video! Not sure if anybody else mentioned the reason you couldn't get both screws in with the SSD in the top slot was because you're supposed to just use the screw of the heatsink instead. Basically the heatsink hold the SSD in when you use the top slot.

Now this is my kind of ASMR! Amazing you found a 3070. Wonder how much that set you back. A few tidbits: 1. The topmost nvme ssd slot is connected directly to the CPU. The bottom one goes through the x570 chipset. The x570 chipset has a 4 lane uplink so you're fine for now performance wise. You won't see a difference. Because your 980 is a PCIe Gen4, it will nearly max it out so if you add more devices that go through the chipset, you may want to move the ssd to the top slot. 2. Normally you attach the plate onto the power supply beforehand so that you can just slide it in and tighten the larger screws. But your way also works because then you have better alignment. 3. With only 2 sticks, we use the second and fourth RAM slots. The first two slots are connected together (channel 1) as are the last two (channel 2) so this allows for dual channel. So you want the sticks on separate channels for twice the speed. That's why they are separated by one empty slot. As to why we use the furthest slot in each channel is because if you used the first slots (slot 1 and 3), then the empty slots at the end would have no signal going through them and would act like an antenna and can cause errors and have less reliable signals to the RAM.
I was gonna comment your first point, but since her ram runs quad channel she prob planned the ram installation and didn't just randomly click in the memory
@@corrpendragon But, and hear me out here, when I put 2 dimms in it's typically called dual channel. Same goes for post-it notes and vaseline. Idc about what is technically correct, or how many busses a controller has. As long as the vast majority of ppl call 4 dimms quad channel, i'll do so as well.

I remember you telling me that you had built a computer before. Now, seeing you do it in person, it's so very interesting and relaxing. 💜
from personal experience "relaxing" and "pc build" do not mesh, but you've managed to pull it off lol
You hit the nail on the head. I get stressed out every time.
No bloody knuckles? Must be doing something wrong.
Exactly! I put a computer together last year and the experience definitely wouldn’t have made a good ASMR video!
i have seen many "building a PC ASMR" videos, but this one it's the most relaxing ever
Amy, thanks for this... I'm in the I.T. field and find building a PC relaxing on its own, but your gentle talking makes it better... And cats are fun helpers. Thanks for another great video!

The top SSD position uses the heatsink screw for holding it in position, it's a bit tricky to install but not that hard.
isn't it like the upper m.2 slot has pcie 4.0 and the other only pcie 3.0?
@@Marc37638 generally speaking yes. Although there are mobos that support multiple pcie 4.0 ssd. If this is a 3.0 slot this poor 980 pro (amazing card) is only running at half speed. Anyway, it's an easy fix to move it to the topmost ans use the heatsink screw to install it

Anti-static wristbands go a long way. Not necessary if physically grounding on the frame, but it takes the guesswork out.
@@ThePdog3k RAM is like the hardest thing to kill with a static discharge, it was most likely DOA
I can't help but wonder if it was difficult maintaining a calm ASMR voice after that powered up so beautifully. I would be squealing with joy XD

Awesome build! You took an otherwise extremely stressful project and made it so relaxing, like something anyone can do on a lazy afternoon. Another great ASMR! I want to start buying components to build one of my own now.
Apparently everything worked and all the right parts were available right out of the box which makes a build much better.
@@donmiller8228 you can plan that easy on pcpartpicker. This is no different from legos for adults, and I suggest everyone we build their pc rather than pay the build fees to dell and waste money. Awesome video! Not sure if anybody else mentioned the reason you couldn't get both screws in with the SSD in the top slot was because you're supposed to just use the screw of the heatsink instead. Basically the heatsink hold the SSD in when you use the top slot.

This build is so similar to the way i did mine. But I got the Tomahawk with an I9. Incredible performance. I hope you enjoy it!
Now this is my kind of ASMR! Amazing you found a 3070. Wonder how much that set you back.
A few tidbits:
@@laurensholthof It's not quad channel, but you're right on the rest :)
@@corrpendragon she put in 4 dimms though?
@@laurensholthof yes, 2 DIMMs per channel, on this motherboard (and most consumer motherboards that have 4 DIMM slots)
I would think that there was a big difference in performance between this lovely build and your eight-year old computer!
