It's hard to understand til you see him live. But he also hasn't put out a lot of material so far and has been playing the same setlist for years. But I think this album is gonna expand his fan base a bit more. It's pretty damn good and branching out more.

Dude! Those p90's in a flying V kick soooooooo much butt. They make that fuzz just come alive. The changes in the lead section are pretty frikin sweet too.

gary clark jr is like freddie king in the sense that he is not technically gifted so he uses the typical blues patterns in a unique way. whenever i get tired of hearing the same old runs when listening to many popular and renowned players i turn on some gary clark live and will always end up tilting my head with my eyes wide open like a puppy discovering a ball for the first time. Minute augmentations make the biggest differences.
Exactly! Definitely a lesson that a great composition doesn't have to be complicated. Those bends and the control he has definitely shows a great level of skill . I love a great shred solo as much as everyone else but there are plenty of great solos that don't rely on shredding. Understanding dynamics and phrasing helps if you can't shred but I wish I could. Hopefully one day, but I wouldn't overuse it

Cory BiNks He means Gary uses the first position of the minor pentatonic scale a lot but his bends often aren't your standard minor pentatonic bends. He does these little micro-bends that really augment his style and give a very unique character to his guitar playing
