There is no "bowl ban" applicable, ineligible in final year of FCS and only eligible first year of FBS if there are no other 6-6 teams able to be selected. Since there weren't, JSU went ahead of the 5-7 teams. Sam is completely bowl-eligible this season.
I absolutely love seeing schools like this have great seasons. Love the BearKat name plus those orange unis look fantastic. Also love hearing McNeese state mentioned so much. I'm always hoping they move up to the Sun Belt or C USA, but they just aren't consistently good enough at their current level I think.
I coached at Eastern Washington and we played Sam Houston in the playoffs. How well coached and tough these guys were in one of the greatest football games of all time. It was frozen, these guys were disciplined and ran the Counter to perfection. Sam Houston is all that.
Imagine this, UCF finishes 8-4 or 9-3, that being SHSU’s only loss. SHSU finishes 11-1, beating Liberty in the last game and CUSA championship game. Add a win over a good Western Kentucky, Hawaii, and Texas State, and with some other chaos, the Bearkats could be the GO5 CFP rep.
I remember being a huge bearkat fan that year that they came in and won the fcs championship on a Cinderella season, that was 4 or 5 years ago now and I've followed them less and less over the years buy I'm super glad to see them good again
Episode idea: Discuss how Jack Trice has been a part of the rise of Iowa State. From the letter to the students demanding the stadium be named after him to the anniversary last year. It is one of the most unique and powerful stories in CFB and the story would be an amazing video.
I’m glad I started a dynasty in Ea College Football 25 with these boys here ! Makes me proud to see them doing the damn thang in real life #EatEmUpKats Hold it down Huntsville 🟠⚪️💯
We don’t have a bowl ban this season. Our last year of our transition was last season. We started our transition in 2022 which is why we only played 9 games and had a 5-4 record. KC Keeler redshirted all our starters that season so that they would have as much eligibility as possible in FBS. We weren’t eligible for the FCS playoffs and weren’t playing FBS games (except for A&M which was just a pay game) so they all decided to redshirt since every game that year was essentially an exhibition game for us. But this is our first season not in transition since we lost in the quarterfinals to Montana State in 2021.
Sam Houston would definitely fit well especially culturally with the Sun Belt, along with Stephen F Austin ( whenever they make the move to the Sunbelt).
SFA is in no way going FBS to replace UTEP, they just downgraded conferences from WAC/United back to the Southland, they can't and don't want to deal with the travel costs, much less upgrades etc... Plus, they lack a major media network as they are too far from Houston and DFW. #EatEmUpKats
Fun Fact: They’re named after Sam Houston because the college is in Huntsville, Tx where Sam Houston retired and is buried in. Houston was governor of Texas when the Civil War began and was one of very few Southern politicians to remain loyal to the Union. He refused to sign off on Texas leaving the Union. He had fought so hard for Texas Independence and then to get Texas into the United States. He felt it was his life’s work. An angry mob then forced him out of the governors mansion and he retired to Huntsville. He died in 1863 at the age of 70 believing his life was a failure because Texas had chosen to leave the Union. Most Texans today would not agree.
Sam Houston was the best 0-8 team to ever play football last year, lost most their games by less than a score, several in OT, was competitive with BYU, AF, and NY6 bowl team Liberty (game came down to the final drive with a dropped go ahead TD pass in the final seconds)
@@jonathanbuckner4726I remember last year not studying watching the games go to OT just to lose😭😭didn’t study and take a loss. Thank god this year we are crushing it and not studying feels better with a W🤣
You need to talk about ulm like vandy they have a historical bad football program and beat James Madison last week. With how the sun belt is this year they could win or make the conference title game.
U actually got an error there: SHSU is bowl eligible, this was confirmed when JMU and JSU made it last year that SHSU and KSU would be bowl eligible after one year. This is Sam Houston’s first year. They will be a bowl team this year.
JMU, JSU, and SHSU all moved up at the same time - JMU just had a bad split with their conference and immediately jumped to the Sun Belt. If Sam had 6 wins last year, they would've gone bowling like JSU. KSU finishes their transition this year and if they can somehow gone on a miracle run and there's not enough 6-6 teams, they would also go bowling.
SHSU is bowl eligible, also they sat some of the best players the last two seasons so they could remain eligible for a few more years and SHSU could have time to rebuild at the FBS level, this season actually matters so SHSU came prepared
What topic should I cover next?
Talk about best player by conference. Like best LB.
Ulm Monroe
the continued success of Liberty football.
Tyson Bagent.
The Rise Of San Jose State Football

That game was incredible!

Sam Houston is fully bowl eligible this year
This team is putting our school on the map. Hoping they can keep up the good run

Eat em Kats, I'm currently an SHSU student
Same. I feel campus life has improved since our team has been winning🤣

No to Sun Belt, MWC yes.
Sam Houston is a great school!!!!!
My daughter graduated from Sam, recently. She's loving it!
SHSU is definitely eligible for a bowl game since us band members have to fill out forms regarding possible flights to the Bahamas or Hawaii.

Let’s go bearkats! In Keeler we trust☝️
SHSU ❤❤
Sam Houston St came a long way. They were well considered "the worst team" last year. This year, a different story they are much better team 👍.
Last year was their first year in the fbs wasn’t it

Who could forget the Refrigerator Bowl?
Was it cold?

How can Tim Flanders not be mentioned at all!! 😮
Talk about the best D2 players in the pros or best undrafted players in the pros? Tyson Bagent is one of those best players

Move up West Florida and School of Mines and other D2's to FCS and move A couple FCS teams up to C-USA
Who is the best player on this team?
Hard to say. Our three headed running attack has been great. Hunter Watson our QB is a great rusher, but eh on passing.
Probably one of our linebackers.
Sam Houston is bowl game eligible btw
