Good video! I’ve got a ‘19 and just started changing the oil 5k miles or 50% whichever comes first. There’s a ton of videos showing the sludge building up, you might want to look into that.
Will definitely take a look and keep that in mind. I do service a lot of these 5.7 HEMI engines and have seen a bunch of good condition ones but also a handful of nasty ones.
Another great video. I think every mechanic has the same opinion of engineers, they all should have to work on the vehicles they design. Or the car companies should hire mechanics to design vehicles, lol.
Why don't you use a 1 gallon freezer bag over the old filter as you loosen it? Let the filter fall into the bag and remove with almost zero oil spilling.
@@Thumpernator1 I have tried that in the past and it’s a nice way to keep it clean for sure. 😎👍🏻 I just forget to grab them when I go to service my clients rigs once and a while. Definitely something to add to the tool bag. 😁
@@braidensellers totally, I’ve used my local store brand for years before I was able to upgrade to other stuff. Like I touched on in the video, as long as your sticking to what your vehicle requires as far as weight you will be good. 5w-20, 0W-30, etc. People will argue this with me on this but their are different qualities of oil out there too. There isn’t a single terrible oil to put into your vehicle except used sludge. 😅. As long as you keep up on your oil changes you will be fine. Now granted can you get a high grade oil that has better additives that make it more slick for better lubrication and keeping parts moving flawlessly. Yes. Good example would be Quaker State vs AMSOIL. Now I’m not saying Quaker is bad, I’m just saying there is a huge quality difference with what additives is put into each oil. Also the cheapest oil doesn’t always mean it’s the lowest grade but could be, and the most expensive doesn’t mean it’s the best but could be also. I’ve done a lot of research on oil & filters before I started my business. Hope that helps. Please let me know if I need to answer a different way. 😎✌🏻
bit confused if i pour .2 quarts into the oil filter than i need to pour 6.8 quarts into the engine after or 7 quarts into the engine after ? i’ve been getting mixed answers trying to get people input . reading the dipstick is impossible for me when whole dang thing is covered with oil so i need to do it blindly :(
@@nobody1322 sorry for the confusion. That is something I should’ve clarified on. It is 7 quarts total into the motor. That includes what you put in the filter. So if you were to put the .2 quarts into the filter and 6.8 quarts into the engine that equals your total 7 quarts that you’re after. When websites say 7qts with filter it means 7 total regardless of where it goes in the engine, oil filter, or crankcase. Easiest way I’ve done it is to pour some of the single quart into the filter to get it lubricated and the platelets to soak up some oil so you don’t have that dry start, and then pour the remaining of that quart into the truck after you’ve reinstall the oil filter. And then finish off with your other 6qts to get your total of 7qts. Hope that helps. 😊
@@hamms5560 good deal. That will definitely be easier on ya. Is it 2wd? Yeah, engineering is not made around maintenance for the mechanic like it was back on older vehicles. Wish that would change. 😜
@@hamms5560 Cool. 😎 I just had hunch that if it was 2wd might be why that bar wasn’t there. Interesting. Now I gotta find a ‘16 and do a tutorial. 😅💪🏻🤘🏻
@@randymiller5008 I’ve serviced over 50 vehicles with the 5.7 HEMI. As long as it’s the correct oil weight it doesn’t matter. It does the same job for the rig. 😎 Now are their way better brands / quality of oil because they have better additives. 100% yes. Appreciate you watching. Might do another tutorial someday with this same truck and use exactly what they request for us to put in the rig. 🤘🏻

Is it okay to use the autoparts store brand engine oil?

My 16 doesn’t have that bar in the way. Frustrating that simple Maintenance is not even considered when they design these trucks.
