What a storyteller Peter Alliss was, simply untouchable in the commentary box. He will be sadly missed. RIP Peter.
Love the simple, rhythmic and graceful golf swing of John Panton, no sign of any rush or attempt to force a shot.
One of the truly great Scottish players.

First broadcast on BBC 2 on Wednesday 12th October 1977,10 half hour programmes. I had just taken up the game, I loved this!!

As far back as that ? I thought it went back to about 1981 so I was already watching a repeat. It was the appearance of Greg Norman that misled me. Peter had another coaching series roughly a decade later called "Play Better Golf" .

I have been playing golf for 56 years and had 1000 lessons from 100 teachers, but found that I was learning new stuff right from the start. I look forward to hearing a compilation of his best bits of commentary - the remarks that brought wisdom and joy to us for decades.

Howard you are so right, it would be great to have a compilation of Peter’s memorable comments and quotes. He had an extraordinary gift of telling a story that was knowledgeable, interesting and humorous. I could listen to him all day, and he will be sorely missed, RIP Peter.

my father played a round with this guy along with some wealthy Jewish folks looking for good tips along the way......
many years later he was able to pick my father out of a crowd for a quick chat while watching a tounament.....
    very sharp man for sure....
he was also a big bloke with formidable power !
his massive extensive golfing knowledge & wit will be well missed.......

Just magical. Made me laugh when he introduced a young Greg Norman. "You might make a few Bob if you carry on swinging like that."
He didn't do too bad from the game😄

Great to see this again. Now golf is more accessible to all I think a modern version would still attract an audience. The BBC seems to have deserted golf. You don’t need to pay millions to screen something like this.

Alliss was talking to Greg Norman about poise during the backswing, he could have used that years later at Augusta.

    Hilarious. Good old 'Alice'.
    Monty Python does golf.
The golf swing is of course really simple:
Just remember 512 consecutive positions, and ensure that you execute these 512 positions in perfect sequence. Bingo!
Oh, and don't forget to RELAX of course.
    Good luck mateys.

1981. During the Greg Norman segment (37:11) Alliss mentions Norman won the World Match Play champ. in 1980. Also, the credits at the end were 1981.

What a load of hogwash. Lost me at the point the club at the target fundamental. Actually before that when I saw that poor kid's swing. Doubt if he made it past 25 when his bad back stopped him playing golf.
