    I have a Malone Ecolight. Its ok. Light and easy to move around. I wish I would have gone with a utility trailer, though. It could haul my kayaks and whatever else instead of kayaks only.

      I have been back and forth between so many trailers. I like the enclosed the best but utility 2nd for sure to carry 3+. Malone is cool too.

    I built a smaller version this last fathers day. I twisted my ankle a few day earlier loading yakima bars. My son and I had a fishing trip planned a couple day after fathers day. I have a 5x10 trailer I got from my grandfather years ago that had been setting in the back yard. I had a few sticks of shallow strut and some rectangular tubing left over from a job. So my oldest daughter and I converted the trailer into a kayak trailer like yours without the tool box on the front. But I have saddle box that doesn’t fit any of my current trucks I plan on putting on the front when I get around two replacing the trailer tongue with a longer one to help with making the trailer easer to backup.
    All together the project cost was what ever was in the cup holder in my truck. for a can paint to repaint the trailer itself, because I was a half can short of having enough for two coats.
    Fun fact the scrap wire and aluminum that was on the trailer before we started the trail conversion payed for a moken 10 PDL kayak.
    So twisting my ankle ended up being a good thing. Cleaned the yard up, got a new kayak with peddle drive , go todo a project with my daughter on fathers day, and got my grandpa’s trailer restored fathers day.
    Ive used the trailer on 4 fishing trips so far. I wish I would have done this years ago. Because it it makes spur the moment kayak trips so much easier.

      That is awesome. Yes it can even cheaper if you have a trailer laying around etc. I am glad you got to spend some time with family and got a new kayak out of the deal. Very cool.

    Do you wet launch most of the time with this trailer? I was worried about this with my utility trailer. I guess I can re-mount waterproof taillights as well. Thanks for the videos I do enjoy them!

      It depends on how busy the ramp is and where I go. It’s 50/50. You don’t need to get your trailer wet to wet launch. Pull right onto the edge and push off. Just get sealed led lights and use watertight connectors and shrink wrap and you won’t have problems if you do need to get your lights wet. Not a big deal. I appreciate the support

    Definitely an great job building out the trailer. I have started the same process on my 5x8. Took off the front rail and tail gate. Been wanting to make some kind of rack to hold more kayaks. Definitely want to talk you if possible to see your thoughts on some more upgrades i want to do.

    Looks good. Watched your channel for a while now and you certainly have experience with all the scenarios to transport your kayaks. Any chance we will see a video of you launching from this setup?

      Many times when i go fishing sometimes i do film launching from trailer etc. Will be seen eventually. But next few months I will be dry launching at busy ramps so no wet launching. Will be wet launching more in September/October.

      @@rjmfishtalesNot sure how your trailer deck is when its wet? But theirs no traction on any of my trailers with wood decks when they’re wet.
      Western safety self adhesive rubber safety mats from HF screwed in places on the deck help.

    Have a question on your trailer…what decking did you use? Looks great? I checked your channel but didn’t see a build for it…but then I may have missed it. Thanks.

      The trailer itself was built by Big Tex. Its model SA35. It’s just 2x6 pressure treated lumber.

    Maybe add a PVC pipe on the back top rail as a roller for loading the boats on the top

    Did you think about the Yakima EZ Trailer? Why not go that direction?

      I am not a fan of light trailers. I have owned lots of trailers and I am very particular about certain items. All the put together and trailers like Malone I would never use.

    Hey Ryan buddy how are you doing man? That is a very very nice kayak trailer you have setup man. I really really like how you did it man. Me & my lil brother Tim was just talking about kayak trailer over 4th of July. My lil brother Tim is over 40 years old & he said he is getting to old to be Lifting kayak 🛶 really really high up onto a pickup truck 🛻 & he wants to Build a kayak 🛶 trailer . & i can agree with that too. Plus two for me with my bad feet 🦶 sometimes my nerves in my feet 🦶 will not let me pickup anything over 50Ibs or it will hurt me pretty bad. It suck having Nerve & muscle damage in my feet 🦶 man. So we are going to make a kayak trailer to haul 12 kayak 🛶 & camping 🏕 gear because we do a lot of kayak camping 🏕 trip as well. I do have a question buddy? What size tires are you running? This was a good video man. Thanks you for much for sharing this video buddy. Be safe out there on the water buddy.

    • @rjmfishtales
      @rjmfishtales  4 месяца назад

      What’s going on. Yea nerve damage would suck. You could build a rack on the trailer to haul 12 kayaks easily. I am run 205/75 on a 15 inch rim. That is the only way I will have a trailer. Nothing smaller. Also tires need to have a speed rating of 81 or higher.

    • @mackjenkins7721
      @mackjenkins7721 4 месяца назад +1

      @rjmfishtales yes nerves damage really suck man. I would take something else over this. That what we are looking to do man. That's what I am looking for something that can go interstate speed of 75 & higher & # 2. Of we have a blow out I want to be able to get a tire anywhere while using the Spare tire . I hope you have a good week buddy.

      The camper is not mine. It’s my buddy’s camper. I prefer just to do a rooftop tent or just stay at a cabin. Need more time for fishing. Haha
