    This is very helpful. I work for a health care company, and we're working on approvals to purchase Articulate 360. Up until now, we've just been producing "flat" PowerPoint presentations for our LMS, but we've recently become accredited by ANCC, and we have to start producing modules that are interactive and appeal to all types of learners. One challenge is that our behavioral health specialist has been resisting the required changes required by ANCC, and she seems to want to keep submitting those "flat" PPTs and have me (!) deal with all the required changes for ANCC. This video tells me that it probably won't be all that difficult for her to learn to use Rise, and maybe she'll get curious about Storyline at some point. I've viewed some of your other videos, and they're all great. Thanks, Devlin, for putting this out there!

      That sounds frustrating, but yes, SMEs and non-instructional designers can generally get up and running with Rise quite quickly! Let us know how it goes :D

    I've been using both for a number of years now (long time Captivate user prior to that) and I have settled on using, for almost all projects, Rise as the primary *publishing/packaging* tool. In other words, I create content in various tools, but it is then imported/used within a Rise course. Rise includes a Storyline "block" for this purpose. So, to me, it's the best of both worlds. I used Rise interactions where they are ideal, but for many interactions I will create in Storyline and then import into Rise using the Storyline block.

    You probably saved me hours of fumbling through trying to figure this out. For someone who is brand new to ID, I had no idea what the difference was between Rise and Storyline. I was bummed to find out that Apple does not have a native app for Storyline, so I am just learning Rise right now. I would rather not download an environment for my clunky old Mac to make storyline work. It is nice to know that I can still build courses and implement the things I am learning and the ID world.

Using more of Rise recently and it saves time, allows engagement and chunking of eLearning especially when there is urgent need to update old eLearnings. Just a little code allows me embed Qualtrics to evaluate user’s feedback. Thanks again, Devlin!
    Devlin, will you consider a video on LMS? Corporate org. sometimes want IDs to suggest which is best and why - technical, budget wise, etc. Thanks again!

      Hi Anu! Thanks for checking out the video. Rise is definitely a good tool for rapid development. I will add your vote for more LMS content to the list. I did a vid about how to navigate Talent LMS, but it is very basic and doesn’t dive into different LMS comparisons. To be honest I’m not well researched on the nuances in the LMS market right now, so a video on that would take a decent amount of research.

    Hi, Devlin. Great content as usual. These two tools are the most popular in the market, however, they are a bit pricey, especially for newbies or people who want to practice and learn. Do yo have any thoughts on any other tool? I came across Active Presenter 8. I wonder if you know about it? Could you recommend any other authoring tools different from the two you've mentioned? It would be awesome a video about some free alternatives to Storyline for instance. Keep the good work!

    Hi Devlin, A+ content on yout channel! One thing I've been trying to find out but either missing it everywhere, or it's just not mentioned on the Articulate FAQ - when you export a Rise course for web to host on your own server, is the resulting html export still responsive? Are there other tools that support that responsive export?

    Can you export your course to import into other platforms such as udemy?

    • @DevlinPeckYT
      @DevlinPeckYT  2 года назад +1

      Hi Patrick! You can export as a SCORM or HTML5 package, and you can upload these to LMSs (like TalentLMS, Docebo, Canvas, etc) or a web server, but platforms like Udemy usually only take videos, PDFs, etc (so the short answer is no). You could link out to a Storyline or Rise module, but the link wouldn't be locked behind a paywall (and anyone with the link could access your content).

    Articulate storyline does provide the facility of publishing the course on mobile. So, it must be mobile responsive. Isn't it?

    • @LearnAtMyExpense
      @LearnAtMyExpense 3 года назад +5

      Storyline adapts to screen size by scaling and also, as Devlin said in the video, it will rotate based on landscape/portrait orientation. Rise will adapt the *content* itself, each individual element. So things like font size, alignment of objects, etc. For example, if you have a 1 slide Storyline course that has on the slide a video on the left side, and a list of bullets on the right side, if viewed on a smaller (mobile) display it will just shrink to fit and likely the text will be too small. But a responsive tool like Rise will 'flow' the bulleted list *below* the video automatically based on the size of the user's display, all to ensure the best viewing experience.

I'm doing an unpaid Curriculum Development internship wright now, but I think I'm going to need a good portfolio if I want to land my first paying instructional design job. Great question, Yair! You're right that building a strong portfolio will help you land a great paid ID role. And you can absolutely learn the tool and build projects without paying $1000...Articulate offers a very generous trial, and as long as you publish your project before the trial expires, you will be able to show it off on your portfolio indefinitely.
