Supertramp live in Paris! Fools Overture! Unbelieveble! I have seen it in Germany ( I`m german ) on that tour if I was 13! Qne of my fav Hit`s!

I miss the days when the music industry hired musicians instead of dancers, and musicians used talent instead of autotune.
In other words you miss the days when the people in the music industry were fans of music first and money second instead of money first and music 312th.
@@88wildcat You certainly know more or realize more than most.
@@brgilbert2 There used to be days when the music industry actually required artists to have some musical talent before signing them to a record deal!
@@algallego Yes, and those were the days when most all of the executives in the music industry were actual writers of music or musicians like Johnny Mercer who started RCA, at least I think it was Johnny Mercer.
Yep. I'm so glad i was brought up in that era. Miss it big time...
Yes, he's actually doing this live.
Lol, in 81 this would not even have been a question.
Nothing compares to 80's music. Steve is a vocal God-pure talent👍
Steve Perry’s voice has been analyzed a whole lot, just like they analyzed Freddie Mercury’s voice. They are in agreement that he is pitch perfect. In the ranges he sings that cannot be easy. And they really do sound this good live. Thanks for the great reaction! 💗
The greatest live vocals of all time is Mother Father from this same show!
To each his own
Also from this concert, “The Party is Over” and “Stone in Love”. Really any song from this concert is performed perfectly. The band is at it’s best at this time.
For sure Mother Father is Great live I feel Steve got his energy from the Audience my Favorite is Sweet and simple
That’s a legit point, because it’s been said that Steve himself considers it one of the hardest songs for him to sing.
💯
His voice in Faithfully is breathtaking!
Steve Perry's voice is a gift from God!
Couldn’t of said that better Gary!!!
Fact!
My sound engineer was at this exact concert in Houston on this night... he said it was mind blowing to a level he is unable to explain. He saw them in 81, 83 and 86 ..
It was always real back then. We had the best music, the musicians and the best talent. I know I saw it all. The sixties and seventies produced the best talent…it was no auto tune, just straight up talent. You either had it or you didn’t.
Oh Yeah! The good ole days!!!!
Nostalgia makes everything better. There was plenty of bullshit being produced back then too.
Yep, the only difference, we didn’t listen to it !
@@sherryarflin726 Have look at the charts from those years. You'd be surprised. Every generation believes that they were special, and look down on the next generations, just like their parents did to them. They grew up facing mockery and condescension from their parents' generation and then turned 40 and started dishing it out themselves as if it was a new idea to hate on kids. It's a vicious cycle of bitterness and jealousy. The common denominator in all this music that seems so much better is that you were a kid when you heard it. The music only seemed that much better to you because you were young, and being young is awesome. The other day I saw a 90s kid saying the same thing in the comments of an anime theme song.
It is also ironic that the song you're so up on your authenticity high horse about is this one. This a boiler-plate stadium rock song with meaningless one-size-fits-all lyrics and a chord progression that's so unoriginal it's a pop song cliché. The vocal performance is amazing obviously, but apart from that it's nothing special. I love it, but to use this as your example of why "the kids these days" don't listen to "real music" isn't wise.
Mudd, I have two children and not once did I ever complain about their choices in music….but they’re adults now and guess what their favorite music is??? The music we grew up on. Imagine my surprise when I found this out!! You are absolutely right though. I still believe our generation had the better music and talent. Having said that. There are plenty of artist today and over the yrs I like a lot. I truly hate jazz, heavy metal and rap though. Shocking I know!!!
HI MAGGIE MY WIFE AND I WERE THERE THAT NIGHT IN 81 SUMMIT HOUSTON THE REASON MILLIONS HAVE SCENE THIS VIDEO WAS BECAUSE M T V DIDI THE WHOLE SHOW ( they told the whole crowd you’re being filmed ) before the start of the show, multi cameras multi sound pickups top notch production , the look and sound got highest rotation on M TV THANKS
Was ther also 1 of my favorite concerts
I was there too, I remember him saying that also remember that I was behind the stage, every time I see this video I try to see if I see myself but cant
There's a reason why bands from the 70's and 80's still tour. They can sing live. Twice saw Journey in concert, with Steve Perry. They never disappointed!
One of the greatest vocalists without autotune. He's an enigma!
Also no in ear
Faithfully and Send Her My Love are my 2 favorite Journey songs.
Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) is my favorite, but Mother Father from this concert is one of the best songs I've ever heard!
@Stevenrayperry
Olá! Prazer em conhecê-lo! Quais são as suas memórias favoritas dos Açores?
They called him The Voice for good reason. My favorite of theirs and one of my all time favorite songs is Faithfully.
"Lights" is my favorite Journey song. I love the warm harmony.
Feeling That Way/Lights is my favorite song bundle from this album. I live in Monticello Indiana.
Journey live is awesome. Steve is a vocal beast. Always a great front man for the band. In my opinion, strictly the best. 🎵🎶🎵
Never got chance to see them live but would have loved to, Steve Perry took journey to the top with his amazing voice and showmanship ♠️ why oh why they got that new kid who sounds exactly like him but isn't ♠️
"Why Can't This Night Go On Forever"
A must see video, even if you don't react to it.
His vocals are untouchable in that video
I usually don't like it when singers switch it up much live, but Steve has such control and intention that it sounds pleasant.
The golden voice.. Love their music.. I'm also like "who's crying now" ❤
My husband was IN THE AUDIENCE for this concert in 1981. We have seen Journey 8 times together - with Arnel Pinada (the new lead singer) and he is awesome also! There is a DVD of this concert - you need to find it and watch it! It is AMAZING from start to finish! We've got the DVD and watch it every time we see it in the case. You feel like you were there!
Perry has a great single when he went solo. Oh Sherrie.
Love that song, and it was a really fun video too.
From a time where true talent reigned supreme......
I love hearing him hear, singing this live. He sounds so fantastic. I don't need "Journey" nowadays. I put it in quotes because they are not Journey without Steve to me.
Absolutely! Arnel is a talented singer, but he does not have the same quality of voice that Steve Perry has!
@@algallego exactly!! 😁
It's sad that Steve isn't with the band anymore. If things absolutely had to change, IMO, Arnel Pineda was a great choice. No one will ever match Steve's voice!
They're no more Journey now than they were with Steve Augeri, Jeff Scott Soto-- not even Robert Fleischman could get much notoriety for Journey.
@@algallego never gone be as amazing as they were.
I saw these guys in 1981 and 1983 at Alpine Valley in Wisconsin. Awesome music venue back then. Steve Perry to this day is on the top of the list of greatest vocalists of all time. Their live shows were like a dream for this teenager at the time.
Saw Journey in person many times....his voice is... amazing...
Listen to any Journey with Steve Perry.. you will never be disappointed..
I’ve seen Journey, live and in person 5 times. Every show was pure energy. It was a high that stays with you all week. Lovin, Touchin and Squeezin, City of the Angels (which have to be played back to back every time!) probably top my list. Followed by Girl Can’t Help It. The full 5 part harmony at the end of that song is a killer!
“Anyway you want it” is my favorite song from Journey.
"Who's crying now" and "Open arms".
They had to be good, they didn't have all the technology to help them cover up mistakes while doing live shows. Practice and dedication to their craft was super important back in the day.
The harmonies on Feeling That Way/Anytime are AMAZING!
Perry era Journey : no bad songs.. all good listens
I believe his voice is about as pure and natural as you can get.
Brad Delp of Boston and Freddie Mercury certainly had well above average voices that sounded as good as the record when they were live.
Maggie renee rocking out to my favorite group of all time..great minds think alike .❤❤
I seen him live 3x and beautiful every time. He’s wonderful
There is a reason he was called and known as the voice
The performances of this 1981 concert far exceeded their studio versions. Journey was on top of their game here
My all-time favorite rock singer
Steve Perry amazing always loved him and Journey. Best band ever
You would be blown away by Mother father from this same concert. Most eighties bands should be viewed live.
Everybody in the 80s loved Journey. All the Rock kids , all the new wave kids , country kids , etc... It might not have been cool to let people know it but I'll bet everyone had a cassette tape of theirs buried somewhere.
It's hard to believe that the band in this video did not want Steve Perry as their lead vocalist when he was first hired. They didn't change him, he changed them and their direction. The rest is history!! Don't stop believing.....
Mother Father from this concert.. his voice will blow your mind...far beyond this amazing performance here.. at least give this live version a listen!
I think my favorite song of them is Lights. Reminds me of seeing the Sun come up on Lake Michigan the morning after my high school graduation with friends.
"Who's Cryin' Now" from this same show is amazing!!
Mother Father live from the same live tour, separate ways, faithfully, who's crying now and of course Lay it down. Steve "The Voice" Perry won't let you down. Mother father and Lay it down vocals are crazy especially the live version.
Separate Ways did not come from this tour. That came later.
@@algallegoeah, i meant Mother Father live version from this tour and then making other suggestions as well not necessarily the live version from this tour 🙂
Raw talent! No autotune back then!
Never see talent like this anymore
Those days are gone!
"Mother Father" from this concert is also incredible, but all of the songs are great. I saw them live three times.
My two favorites of Journey, Don't Stop Believin' AND Who's Crying Now. I really love both, the music and rhythm. I always play these in my car. Open Arms is awesome too.
I think its the basslines in WCN and DSB that really get to me. Add deep bass with his silky vocals and it's a great dichotomy.
Saw this tour in DC at the Capitol Center. They played mostly in arenas and hockey rinks for this tour. The stage was almost circular with only about a 60 degree wedge directly behind the drums blocked off. Steve would sing and move to all 300 degrees of the stage.
My first concert was at the Capitol Center. AC/DC Razors.Edge Tour
I saw them on this same tour. Flawless performance. There was no band worth their salt back then that did anything pre-recorded.
Steve Perry is a rare gift ❤️🔥
Mother, Father from this same concert is my favorite live Steve Perry performance of all time.
Listen to him sing "Open Arms" Live. You're head will explode.
An amazingly iconic, legendary voice paired with an amazing band. But more than that, Journey made you feel something like few other bands could; almost magical. Check out: The Party's Over, Still They Ride and don't forget Steve's solo work.
Maggie, seeing you sing "Somewhere in the niiiiiiiiiiigh!" in duet with Steve Perry just made my weekend! God bless ya', sister!
Steve is a natural bel canto singer in his flow and open vowels .
Who’s Crying Now from this concert is also worth hearing. The entire show is incredible.
Journey was amazing live. Before the 21st Century, if bands couldn't perform live like the record, they didn't make it in the music business. YOU HAD TO HAVE TALENT to make it.
Hi from South Africa. I LOVE 'Mother, Father... ' His rage is CRAZY!!!!!!
I got to meet Steve Perry and Neil Schon before the concert. We had just the album and that’s all before the concert. They smashed it!!! They came out for an encore and said, “we don’t know anymore songs….. they sang 2 songs again they had already done”. It was amazing!!!!
Steve tem uma voz incrivel. Ele tem na voz seis linhas vocais impossiveis. Ele se supera.❤
Watch Steve lead a stadium full of baseball fan in their song “Lights”. Incredible
Favorite song from Journey, I don't know, so many. Lights is up there as well as Faithfully, Stone in Love, Lovin-touchin-squeezin. Saw them live in the 80's with Bryan Adams opening, freaking amazing.
Welcome to Iowa!! Well 9 months ago. I am in Mason City, Iowa. Enjoy your reactions to songs of my youth!
The drummer is very underrated and under-appreciated on this track. I was one of those that never gave this guy much credit, until I started to learn this song on drums to play in my cover band.
Where most drummers in this era would play this more straight on the main groove and add big fills and accents where appropriate, this dude lays back and supports with a stealthy shuffle feel going on. If you listen close, he is using tom-toms throughout the groove, yet somehow it is not enough to call it a "tom groove". He manages to complement the main rhythm with the toms and give the percussion a faux half-time feel.
It threw me off at first....not because it is difficult to play, but rather because it is far more busy than I thought. What helped me was when I realized that he was mimicking the other rhythm instruments on the toms. So he wasn't just keeping time, he was incorporating drums into the composition.
My favorite journey/Steve Perry songs is the whole album Raised on radio .. I can't pick a single favorite song because all of their songs are great especially when performed live by Steve Perry only
May I make a suggestion to review “Mother Father” live, same concert? You won’t regret it. Might be the best live vocal ever.
I have seen Journey live 12 times. They are one of very few bands who can sound almost exactly like their studio recordings. They consistently produced a fantastic live show. Journey iz one of my top 5 bands of all time. Even in 2018 they still sound this good. Steve Perry's vocals are on a different level of exceptionism.
Faithfully
Every Journey song is the best 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
The drummer uses the unnatural stick grip of turning the left hand over to play the hi-hst on this song and the lead guitst great stuff.
Anything Steve sang live was always amazing. Also, maybe you can react to Steve Perry's solo songs since he has 4 solo albums of his own.
Saw them spring of 1982. They were amazing. Better live than studio
I've not been a huge Journey fan but I don't dislike them by any means. If I had to pick the Journey song that I like best it would probably be ANY WAY YOU WANT IT.
Awesome! Yes, yet another vote for Separate Ways, from a fan of Journey's, and yours, in Japan. Unbelievable talents out there.
Open Arms is my favorite Journey song.
@Steve Perry not Steve Perry you scammer
@Steve Perry unh huh. 1. Steve has an official music account.
2. You've had that name for precisely a month.
Also the Live version of Feeling that Way is pretty amazing! To see the duet is something pretty special.
I love them all but "Stay awhile", has a special place.
Love Journey!
I was at that concert and there was about a gazillion people there.
OMGosh! Never heard them live? Mother, Father from the same concert in Houston. I don’t want to over sell it…. Just do it!
Going up high near the end was the guitar solo, not Steve Perry's voice (in the studio track) which Neil Schon did at the end of his solo (he had to alter the solo because that solo needs 3 guitars to make that harmony sound work). fyi.
My favorite Journey album is Escape. My favorite Journey song is Still They Ride. You would love that song.
Especially the live from Tokyo 83!!!! So damn amazing!!!!!
@rayjackson6917 I've seen that concert and you are right!
Steve never went up that high at the end of the song. That was a Glee arrangement, then Adam Lambert did it on American Idol. If you want to hear a perfect live song, listen to "Mother, Father" from this same show.
You know it was a great night out with your friends , when you wake up hungover and one of your mates has all of you recorded on their mobile, drunkenly singing this song on a karaoke machine, with the other patrons of the pub/bar/club joining in. Ahhh, great days. 😁
There are so many bands for you to experience. Sooner or later, you will stumble across Rush, Kansas, and a thousand others.
"Send Her My Love"
without question is my favorite! It's also the favorite of Journeys lead guitarist Neal Schon.
Before Auto-tune, before lip-sync, there was TALENT!
💯
I have seen them live many times, and I heard each song when they just came out on the radio
Greatest memory of 20s, karaoke night Wisconsin. A 12 came on stage to help,e sing. Beautiful moment.
Steve Perry is a god. There NEVER was/is/will be another one like him.
I LOVE 70/80s Journey with Steve Perry. Yes good hair 😁 Have a listen to Mother, Father from Live in Houston. Hi from Cape Town South Africa
One of the best voices ever, without doubt
Lovin’ touchin squeezin
I was at the 1981 Escape tour in Kansas City. Brings back great memories of a stellar performance
You need to do Mother , Father , Sister from the same concert. Trust me you won’t regret it
I think Steve Perry is one of the greatest rock tenors of all time, and possibly one of the greatest tenors period. Their song “Faithfully” is probably my favorite power ballad of all.
You have to hear "When You Love a Woman" to really appreciate his voice, it's operatic !
Heard this song my 1st year in college...never heard of them before that...favorite band and have seen them 5x at Jones Beach on Long Island.
I seen them in Mobile, AL in 79 or was it 80? Halloween night! Sounded just as good as the Journey 8 track I had in the old Cutlass in the parking lot. Ok I know I'm just reminiscing. Oh how I wish I could go back to the age of 16 and do it all over again. Man would I do a few things differently.
