100% you have to do "Mother Father" by Journey.. Hands down the best live performance I've ever seen. Steve Perry is a BEAST, in my opinion nothing can top that performance ❤
Learned this from a Journey quiz: Steve’s shirt has hearts on it but it does look like leopard print. His voice is all natural but you can hear how his voice matured. Number one voice all the time.
I was 23 when this came out. EPIC!! We had the best bands in the 70's and 80's. True talented musicians. I used to watch MTV videos all the time lol. It was a great time to be alive 😁
About 6 months ago the Billboard Hot 100 did a fan Vote and Steve Perry was Voted the Best Singer in Rock History he git 67% of the Votes. Do a Reaction to the rest of the Songs from the Concert live in Houston 1981.
Great reaction! According to Steve Perry, he never had a problem with his voice or vocal cords, 2 of the main reasons he left Journey were: 1. He was completely burnt out from all the constant touring, and 2. He was dealing with a bad hip and the band was pressuring him to have hip surgery when he wasn't ready to do so. He actually stopped singing for about 20 years because he had "lost his love for music". His voice is more raspy now and he probably can't hit those super high notes, but when he was in his prime he was absolutely the best rock vocalist on the planet. He is still my all time favorite singer.
Steve Perry, that's my guy!!! I've been a longtime fan of his, and I just love him!!! My brother was at this concert! But I got him beat!! I saw Journey for their 1983 Frontiers tourn in Houston, Tx. They played 3 sold out shows, where my best friend and I were at the 2 last shows. And then I saw Journey for their Raised On Radio tour also in Houston. And then for Steve's first solo tour in Ft. Worth, Tx!!
Yes I had the album, cassette and the CD. I saw them in Germany in 1980 or 81. Who needs autotune when it's in your head. Lights is my personal favorite
Steve Perry IMHO is the greatest vocalist of all time ! His vocal abilities are like no other! So captivating from the first note. 8:09 He can still sing his butt off at age 75. There will never be another Steve Perry! Watch Mother Father same show! It will blow you away. Also Who’s crying now from the same show.
Best Rock Vocalist! If you listen to all his music, not just with Journey. He can sing any range and with so much emotion and soul . Trial by Fire is not talked about because they didn’t tour but it has some great rock and ballads.
This was an MTV-filmed and released concert; one of the first they did. The band was so tight and flawless. Next time you watch Wonder Woman: 1984, look for the Steve Perry easter eggs. When Chris Pine is trying on different clothes, he comes out in a leopard print shirt and wearing white Nikes with a red swoosh and blue jeans. That was a nod to his look in this performance. Also, when they are in Egypt, you can see Steve's "Street Talk" album in the background inside a building. Steve and Patty Jenkins (WW director) are great friends.
Steve Perry sounds like a keyboard, he's SO pitch-perfect. I have so many "favorite" rock vocalists. He is great for that clarity of sound, Freddie Mercury is technically amazing with a some of that same pitch perfect flavor, and then Steven Tyler is my King Demon of Screamin. What a blessing to have lived at a time with all their voices. Love it.
Steve used his chest voice in early Journey, also. He could change his voice at will, saying that if you sound the same all the time, people get tired of that. His voice now is more mature, sensual and sexy than ever.
Mother Father and Still they ride…..I saw this show in DC later that year or earlier…I heard him. As a vocalist- I cried during Mother Father - while others got a beer……not me…just hearing that song live = spontaneous tears…..happy tears.❤😊
What can you say he is such a talented man ! I thank god for him ! His music is so inspirational ! We all had such a good time listening to him ! I would have loved to go to his concerts I never got that chance . His is my favorite singer!❤
people don't often mention his ability write and cowrite hits. how many hits made with Perry? how many without? how many songs written while he was there total? how many after?
Yep, he's already taken off the tux tails, so it's somewhere in the middle. This concert was filmed in its entirety for MTV. At the 1st of the concert, they talk about it.
Seeing them when I was 13 in Mobile Alabama was EPIC. I can’t remember who opened for them that year. My friends and I were not old enough to drive the 30 miles so my Dad took us. I am now 55 and he is a rockin’ 87. Faithfully is his favorite song and he sings all the words to many of them when riding with me in the car. Mom took us to see Loverboy the next time. She is 81 now and enjoyed it as much as us. I have always known my parents were wonderful… still are and I’m so lucky to have them living close and seeing them often.
Gregg Rolie is the original keyboardist for the band Journey: Co-founding: Rolie co-founded the band in 1973. Lead singer: Rolie was the lead singer on Journey's first three albums. Leaving the band: Rolie left the band in 1980 and was replaced by Jonathan Cain. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: Rolie was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 as a member of Journey. Other bands: Rolie has also been a member of Santana, the Storm, and Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band.
The GOAT. Steve Perry is better than anyone Journey ever had. And my cat thinks he is a dog. 😂😂. The shirts were to make them stand out against the dark background for the video. Steve is 75 and still sounds brilliant in his solo work.
haha just gets you moving this one. Every single time. The ultimate "pick me up" song and no exaggeration to say that this song has probably saved lives down the years.
Thank you for giving some band members props. The whole band doesn’t get enough love. The sound techs also should receive props. Steve without the band is great. The band without Steve s great. Together it’s magical!
Did you hear what Freddie Mercury said? He was asked in an interview, ""how does it feel to be the best vocalist in the world?"" He replied, ""I don't know, ask Steve Perry""
Setlist Houston 1981 Escape Line of Fire Lights / Stay Awhile Open Arms Mother, Father Piano Solo Who's Crying Now Where Were You Steve Smith Drum Solo Dead or Alive Don't Stop Believin' Stone in Love Keep On Runnin' Guitar Solo Wheel in the Sky
One of the few bands that sounded better live check out Wheel in the Sky live in Osaka love that version where Steve is Singing along with Neal's guitar ❤❤❤❤
I’d suggest listening to some Led Zeppelin, before claiming someone is the best voice. Robert Plant has the best Rock & Blues voice, his range tone & textures, & knowing how to use it for each song. The soulful passion, is something those who have tried to emulate him, just can’t achieve. Try studio version of, You Shook Me, besides the great vocals, there are 3 solos of keyboards harmonica & guitar with great drumming. Live try Earls Court the May 25,1975 version of In My Time Of Dying, the best version for audio & visual. Everything they do is magnificent.
There was never anything wrong with his throat, it was just a rumor. It started, according to the man himself, when he drove his mother to her oncology appointment. This was in his hometown of Hanford, CA. Someone saw him sitting in the waiting room. By the end of the day, the rumor had reached his granddad who called him, weeping in his heavy Portuguese accent, “Why didn’t you tell me? Why didn’t you tell me you had the Cancer??” It’s not really funny, but he was laughing when he told it. 😂
I like Steve....but have to say, the frontman that has been scientifically proven the best vocalist is Freddie Mercury. Scientists actually studied his voice/vocal cords. He has the entire package. Stage Presence, charisma, fan participation, Voice!!! He can sing opera.
❤❤❤😊❤THIS IS THE PERFECT SONG FOR OUR NATION’S DEMOCRACY SURVIVAL❤❤❤😊❤PLEASE PRAY FOR ALL AMERICA TO SING THIS SONG TO ENCOURAGE ALL AMERICAN’S TO VOTE FOR KAMALA HARRIS (IN MEMORY OF OUR STATUE OF LIBERTY)❤❤❤😊❤OUR MOTHERLAND WITH “OPEN ARMS” WELCOMING ALL MEN❤ WOMEN❤AND CHILDREN❤ FROM ALL OVER GOD’S GREEN EARTH😊❤.
Sorry guys... It's my first time listening to you. It's difficult hearing the video when you talk through it constantly. Thought you should know my thoughts. I wonder how many others feel the same way.
did one of these guys say arnel is "CLOSE TO PERRY"??? my answer is ask arnel to sing "mother father" or "the partys over".........the truth is he doesn't have anywhere close to the range (or soul) in his voice. arnels a good singer - but, as far as perry in his prime - arnel is a cheap imitation.
100% you have to do "Mother Father" by Journey.. Hands down the best live performance I've ever seen. Steve Perry is a BEAST, in my opinion nothing can top that performance ❤
The live in Houston 1981 version
Absolutely!! And that song never made it to the radio.
Steve Perry earned the name The Voice. He is so amazing. Love your reactions!
Better live than in the studio!!
No one comes close to Steve Perry! He is an icon
Learned this from a Journey quiz: Steve’s shirt has hearts on it but it does look like leopard print.
His voice is all natural but you can hear how his voice matured. Number one voice all the time.
Love this whole concert. Unreal, amazing, wish I could have been there. 🥰
The Voice! ❤❤❤❤ My absolute favorite singer ! Steve Perry ❤️
I was 23 when this came out. EPIC!! We had the best bands in the 70's and 80's. True talented musicians. I used to watch MTV videos all the time lol. It was a great time to be alive 😁

Steve can still sing he put an album out in 2018 called Traces and I loved it. Yeah maybe a little lower pitched but he was 69 when he cut it ❤❤❤
Saw the same show in LA in Nov 81 for my 18th...Steve wore the same shirt and was just as flawless! Good journey :) Peace!

I saw Journey in the late 70's. Like everyone says...perfection. Oh yeah, Thin Lizzy was the opening act.
Steve Perry and Neal Schon - best pairing of vocals and guitar ever. Watch :Walks Like A Lady " Osaka 1983
You have to do "MOTHER FATHER" Live in Houston 1981, same show👏👏👏👏
Steve Perry sounds like a keyboard, he's SO pitch-perfect. I have so many "favorite" rock vocalists. Love Journey, but I also love the energy between you guys and the vibe of your show!! Good stuff guys. Appreciate it.
You should check out Mother/Father from this same concert. Also, Live in Japan 1980 Lights and Stay Awhile, played together.
YES!!!!
He is the best❤
Steve Perry and Journey were the GOAT., back in the day . I love his powerful voice. Raw talent.
I was able to see them in this tour in Seattle. The best concert. Steve is the best rock vocalist. Robert plant is my other favorite.
i love which parts of his vocals you chose to play again. those are the best!
What can you say he is such a talented man ! I thank god for him ! His music is so inspirational ! We all had such a good time listening to him ! I would have loved to go to his concerts I never got that chance . His is my favorite singer!❤
Listen to the recent remake of Journeys It could have been you by The Effect Band Steve sings a lot of parts in that and he sounds amazing!
people don't often mention his ability write and cowrite hits. how many hits made with Perry? how many without? how many songs written while he was there total? how many after?
Fantastic!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
It's so great to see a reaction that gives props to the entire band!! Each one of them are superb at their craft!
Love the braves pennant and the cowboys helmet
Yep, he's already taken off the tux tails, so it's somewhere in the middle. This concert was filmed in its entirety for MTV. At the 1st of the concert, they talk about it.
Saw them in ‘85… Bryan Adams opened, Veterans Memorial Coliseum. PHX, AZ. Still one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
Seeing them when I was 13 in Mobile Alabama was EPIC. I can’t remember who opened for them that year. My friends and I were not old enough to drive the 30 miles so my Dad took us. Peter Frampton "LIVE" on "The Midnight Special"! JT/Coolie....This is a MUST- SEE !
The GOAT. Steve Perry is better than anyone Journey ever had. And my cat thinks he is a dog. 😂😂. The shirts were to make them stand out against the dark background for the video. Steve is 75 and still sounds brilliant in his solo work.
I saw Journey on Halloween night in Mobile, AL on this tour. It was electric.
My first concert outside my Delaware State Fair was Journey in Philly.. 1983.. I was 16.. It was Golden.. Steve had the same outfit on lol
haha just gets you moving this one. Every single time. The ultimate "pick me up" song and no exaggeration to say that this song has probably saved lives down the years.
The best live of him singing don't stop believing is in Tokyo him wearing blue❤
Thank you for giving some band members props. The whole band doesn’t get enough love. The sound techs also should receive props.

New guy doesn't even come close
Thank you
And changes the riffs
New guy didn't create it either
Pineda never be like Steve Perry... No one can sign like Steve Perry
I prefer castronovo voice than arnel....my opinion
Listen to Richard Goodall sing that very song on AGT with journey backing him up.
Steve is definitely a close 2nd for me in insane male vocals. It goes 1. Freddie Mercury 2. Steve Perry 3. Robert Plant
I’d suggest listening to some Led Zeppelin, before claiming someone is the best voice. Robert Plant has the best Rock & Blues voice, his range tone & textures, & knowing how to use it for each song. With mouths jammed onto those microphones, you'd definitely enjoy "Baracuda" by Heart
THE Steve Perry😊
He lives in San Diego .
Can't beat Steve Perry ❤🤘
Please listen to Dan Vasc's cover - it's great and the same flawless.
Can you react to Lara Fabian - You're Not From Here Live
I like Steve....but have to say, the frontman that has been scientifically proven the best vocalist is Freddie Mercury. Scientists actually studied his voice/vocal cords. He has the entire package.
Stage Presence, charisma, fan participation, Voice!!!
He can sing opera.
Please cite your sources.
No better lead vocals to this band than Steve Perry. I stopped listening to them when he left. But I continued to watch his solo work.
I'll take Brent Smith from Shinedown over anyone.
New guy does not have Steve's range. Very few can get close to steve
Sorry guys... It's my first time listening to you. It's difficult hearing the video when you talk through it constantly. Thought you should know my thoughts. I wonder how many others feel the same way.
That's pop or at least closer to pop. Vetter, Staley, Cobain and Cornell are the best rock vocalists. JMHO
Ross Valory is a great bass player, but never seems to get any recognition.
did one of these guys say arnel is "CLOSE TO PERRY"??? my answer is ask arnel to sing "mother father" or "the partys over".........the truth is he doesn't have anywhere close to the range (or soul) in his voice. arnels a good singer - but, as far as perry in his prime - arnel is a cheap imitation.
But he just became a coward selfish vocalist that time his golden voice is gone.he did not retire as a singer even he knows he can't sing anymore.
Best rock vocalist? He's good, but not even close to the best.
His voice was flawless in this song. Why be rude and just say that there are certainly a lot of great vocalist and he is one of them .
