This video truly helped me solve an issue with my RO. The water wouldn't stop running, checked the tank pressure and was able to fix it within a few minutes. Thank you!
I actually got it working now. With my new confidence on how RO systems work after watching your videos, I began removing pre-filters to see if they were working properly. Turns out my Carbon Pre-Filter was defective and virtually no water was flowing through it. I replaced it and now everything is working perfectly with a huge increase in the water flow (before it was just drops) When all other likely fixes failed, I looked at the unlikely ones. Thanks for the help - it is much appreciated.
Thanks, exactly the info I needed! I had the super slow flow after about 1-2 years after the installation. I disassembled the valve first and then the whole system wasting 2 hours of my time... After watching your videoI gave a few pumps into the tank and the system started to work fine again.! 2 min.!:)
Thank you very much for making this video. We were going to replace the filters today. I found this video last night. We now know it is the bladder in the tank. You saved us time, money and frustration.
Thank you for the lesson. I'm going to install one of these soon and I was clueless about how they operate. It is nice to have some idea of how they work. Very good presentation.
How amazing are you aquamanwisdom. I live in a town about 45 minutes north of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. I have been having problems with my 7 stage system for a while. Got hold of the people who sold it to me, they are about 2 hours from me south of Brisbane, and tried to sort it with emails. I was having a hard time of it, could not understand what he was wanting me to do, so then I go looking on the net and find you. You explained it so well, I got a look at the hook up and could see it better. Had the drain feed going from the white exit not the green, here it's green, same tank, the different coloured tubes is a very good idea. Anyway, I think I have done it and thank you very much. If they had done an instruction video as they said I would have been fine. Thanks again
Wow, I am not handyman type person. You were able to explain to me without me feeling lost. Thank You very very much. My problem is the last problem. It is a brand new system. They RO ppl came yesterday and told me for this very same model you have , that it would take 6 hours for the pressure to build and then it would be available for water . I have very little water pressure.
Rats chewed a hole in the membrane, my regular serviceman has retired, so you came to the rescue. Thank you for showing me how the system works. I think I can fix it myself now.
Thank you,i've had a culligan ro system for 18 years and i change my filters myself every year and main membrane filter every 3 to 5 years and i did not know about the aso valve, but mine is fine because the water does not continuosly run.I appreciate your video,i love learning because knowing is power.Thank You very much!
Waterman you're my Hero, my tank had no pressure - slow water run, took your advice and added air to the bladder everything is working perfectly. ***Great Video *** - if I saw this video before, I could off saved 40 bucks... thanks AGAIN!!!
Thank you for posting this. Step number one should be the simplest which is check tank pressure, I can't tell you the amount of aggravation I have gone through trying to get my system to work again.
Better. RO systems love more pressure! Though with that much of an increase you will need to be certain you are taking good care of your O-rings. They will obviously be stressed much more under the greater pressure. Having said that, you will get much better production rates and higher TDS rejection.
Aqua-man has been around for decades and also member of the Justice League of America alongside Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman. Great video I just wish you had more troubleshooting vids. These are two problems but based on the comments there's quite a few more issues out there. Including mine which is the tank isn't filling with water.. I've seen other websites that mention this problem and say check this and check that. They're not clear like this vid was.

THANK YOU This has been very helpful in some cases but I'm still having an issue. PLEASE HELP!!! I just changed all of the filters and the membrane but when I turn on the water there is no brine water coming out of the black tube nor can I flush the membrane even after I remove flow restrictor. I've checked and cleaned the membrane tube to make sure there was no clogging but it didn't help. UGH in tears!! Thank you.
Exceptional video, never seen so many comments on a video. I am having a purging sound coming out of the faucet vent hole. Going to check my tank pressure, but wondering if this is the sound of water draining out the black tube you described? System works fine other than this annoying sound. THANKS AGAIN!
RVFanatic Good Afternoon,Yes, the sound you are probably hearing is the brine water draining out from your faucet. Please let us know if you have any additional questions!
Could you explain which filter choices are best for filtering surface water with a 4 stage RO system. I have had sediment, Carbon Carbon. But was recently told to do Sediment, Carbon, Sediment...
Wise Aquaman - Excellent video. I'm in the process of troubleshooting my newly installed system (slightly different from the system you are talking about), but now I believe I do have a defective ASO valve. The instructions say to allow the tank to fill 6-12 hours and it has been discharging for at least 18 hours. I am getting ~42 psi at the Schrader valve on the 3.5 gallon storage tank, so this back pressure should be bringing silence and rest to the system. Right? Many people are asking about the amount of water wasted from RO systems. I can say that my manual specifies a ratio of 7:1 (7 parts wasted to 1 part filtered water). Prior to connecting my discharge line (coming from the air gap faucet) into a drain pipe, I ran the line to 5 gallon buckets. I filled about 8 of these (40 gallons), of wasted brine water. This is more than 11 wasted for every filtered gallon. I'm hoping your advice is true and this is a defective ASO valve, because if these systems are truly this wasteful, then they should be outlawed. I'll also mention that I do have a water softener, so what could be challenging the filter to work so slowly? I'll let you know if the problem gets resolved from a call to the manufacturers. Thanks!
+li sun To get less waste water with an RO system, you put a second membrane fed by the first membranes waste water and you may need a booster pump. You cut your waste water in half this way.
@aquamanwisdom it is a white residue that appears on top of the water in a glass and stays on the glass when it is empty, it is somewhat grainy and thought it looked like bubbles but its isnt.
Thank you sooo much for the video. I would listen to that trickle for an hour, couldn't figure it out. I check my tank pressure after watching, it was 20 P.S.I.! I pumped it to 35 P.S.I., trickle no more. Thanks again!
Great video. The problem I'm having is that my tank will not fill. After replacing my filters and opening the supply valve I could hear the water fill the filter housings but then stops without any water filling the tank. All lines/valves are open. any help would be appreciated.
Matt R. Our customer service department would be happy to trouble shoot to locate the problem for you. Please contact us at 888-801-7843. We look forward to hearing from you soon!
My system was working perfectly well last night before I replaced the cartridges. I let the tank fill overnight and the water pressure is very low. Is it possible that the bladder went bad during the replacement?
My Amtrol RO4 just failed after 19 years. Poor pressure at the faucet led to me determining water leaking from the schraeder valve while trying to take pressure readings. The water leaking from the schaeder valve is due to a ruptured internal rubber bladder which, in a properly functioning tank, separates the water at the top of the tank from the pressurized air chamber at the bottom of the tank (where the schraeder valve is).
If you are certain the tank is empty and not receiving any water, then the system must not be producing any water. Make sure the tank is empty by opening the faucet and draining any remaining pressure, then remove the water line that feeds the tank. Put that water line in a bucket and see if it is producing any water. If not, then something is wrong with the system. Maybe a clogged filter or membrane, or possibly the ASO valve is defective. Is the system making a continuous noise?
What model is your system? The tank should have 30-35psi when full. If it doesn't then something is wrong with the tank. When you say shut off diaphragm are you referring to the ASO (automatic shut off) valve?
Hi .. nice video. My husband changed the faucet to the ro system and now the water is murky.. it's been two days now. Do you have any idea why this has happened?
621Lori It may be caused by any build up that was on the water lines previously. I would suggest letting the tank completely fill and then empting it and see if that helps with the murkiness of the water. If this does not work, Please let me know!
***** Thanks for responding.. I did as you said and drained it and let if fill again..three times actually.. and it's still murky. Any input as to why.. would be greatly appreciated.
621Lori If the only thing you changed is the faucet in the RO system, it does not make sense to why your water would be murky. How long has it been since you changed your filters and membrane?
I just bought a Brita USS-335, installed as instructed, but after 4 hours, and there was no water in the tank. would you please tell me why is that happened. Thanks a lot.
+tommy nguyen Thank you for contacting WaterFilters.NET! What is the water pressure before the system? Are the housings and tubing all installed correctly? Please contact our Customer Service department and they would be more than happy to assist in trouble shooting for you. 888-801-7873. Thank you!
Hi, I just replaced pre and post filters and membrane on my GE profile RO. If i remove the membrane I get great flow. If I leave it on, I get the “fill a half cup” problem.Very little water trickles from the filters to the tank, so it’s not the tank. Do you think it was a bad membrane?
I have a WHER25 RO, I am getting a leak from the faucet side of the system on a very irregular basis. It will be ok for a week, or longer with no leak, then there is water leaking onto the kitchen floor. Like a big squrit of water then it stops. Help appreciated. Fred Keeler
My tank is no longer filling. but i dont hear the cobstant running down the drain. I've had my system for a yr now. It's same model as in video, except I have an additional UV module on top of filterpac. Could the fact that the tank doesn't fill AT ALL, be due to the bladder, or is that more of an ASO valve?
Great Video! My tank was about empty in the morning. Checked the water going into it and it's drops and not a flow or stream of water. What is the normal flow into the tank coming from the system? Just changed all filter, so they're all brand new. Is there another issue or blockage causing this? If so, where? Thanks!
Thanks for this. You're good at explaining. I have a 10" filter with a 10" housing, but the filter became moldy because I couldn't screw it shut, it didn't go all the way down to the buttom(rounded off housing at the buttom, two different manufacturors. How is the water supposed to flow when the filter is inside the housing?
Hi my tank is empty and wont fill up, there is water coming from the sink pipes and up to the 1st filter with lots of pressure ,after that im not sure where the blockage might be any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Hello. Today we changed all our filters in the system and now we have a priblem:water not getting in to the tank. If I turn the water on its licking non stop. I mean if it was the tank water it would stop running after a few minutes when tank would get ermpty, right? But it's won't stop running. I'm assuming that water won't go to the tasnk and goes straight to the faucet. How I can fix This?
I have an older neglected RO system that came with my house. I need to disinfect the system, replace all the prefilters, replace the membrane, replace a bad auto shut off valve, replace the flow restrictor (printed on it is "440 FR". Can't find a membrane to match.), and replace the polishing filter. 1. Am I correct in guessing that it is still best to rehabilitate this old system vs a full replacement? 2. I have two prefilters and I have city water. Should I skip the sediment filter and have two carbon prefilters?
Jeffrey Obney It would depend on how old the RO system is. As long as it is in good working shape, you should be fine with just changing all the filters and cleaning the system. We would always suggest to use a sediment filter first. That would help prolonger the life on the carbon filters and membrane.I am not able to locate that specific flow restrictor, but we do carry a wide range of sizes. You can view them directly here:@Flow-Restrictors.htmlPlease let us know if you have any additional questions, or feel free to contact our customer service department at 888-801-7873. Hey Aquaman, I just got my RO system installed on Friday, the guy told me to leave the faucet open for several hours, forgot already for what purpose. The tank is not getting full overnight, also, I'm checking the quality of the water with a PPM meter and it's failing so far, average around 380 p.p.m. my bottles of water averaged 20 ppm. Do you think I got a defective system? I'm calling the company on Monday but I still would like your opinion. TIA.
Thank you. That makes sense. i gave it a try and it still leeks. Probably just going to buy a new system. It's a pretty old system. One more question. If I keep the tank from this one do you think i could hook it up in addition to the new tank to have two reservoirs? If so, this would be great. We have a family of seven and deplete a small tan pretty quickly sometimes.
The pressure valve on the top of the bottle started to leak a water. In a minute my kitchen was all in water. So this is a dangerous system from my experience. The control valve where the water is cumming from should be stronger than what it is.
I have a question, after changing my filters and membrane, my water is cloudy and tastes bad. You can see little particles floating in the glass after you pour it from the tap. Any ideas what may be causing it? I've let the tank drain several times but this isn't fixing the problem. Thanks!
You Sir are very informative and have a gift of communicating with in- depth explanation. Thank you for educational video. I now know I need a tank and possibly a ASO valve. Hissing is only at certain times. I will change the tank and if I hear the ASO not shutting off I will replace. I just installed a PRV and had to reduce to 55 PSI from 85 PSI for Water distribution system for entire house. I believe the previous high pressure trashed the tank and possibly the ASO Valve. Question, before I replace either do you know what the PSI rating for tank and ASO Valve?
@PlasmaEnthusiast Sorry, but you need the tank for storage. Depending on the GPD rating of your system it is only producing a couple of ounces of water per minute (hence the need for a reservoir tank). Did you check the filters? What was the result of your investigation?
Excellent video. It didn't address my questions, but it's very helpful for understanding how reverse osmosis systems work. I have two questions. First, unlike the problem depicted in the video (continuous discharge), my system never discharges any more. Second, after more research, I don't think I need reverse osmosis anyway. I wonder if my water is still being filtered in four stages and if so, is this as good as a high-end four-stage non-RO filtration system, or should I ditch the system I have and replace it?
RO or Distillation are the ONLY methods that can achieve ideal drinking water- under 50ppm of Total Dissolved Solids. If the new equipment can bring your water to less than 50ppm then yes, this is the standard for ideal drinking water. It can be measured using a TDS Meter. Can a clogged sink drain pipe push dirty water back into the RO system through the brine water line? If so, how can I change the setup in the kitchen sink? For some reasons my kitchen sink keeps getting clogged. The drain line is attached to the drain pipe and I'm concern the clogged had pushed dirty water into the RO system. I'm not sure what I can do to prevent it.
a defective tank is not the only posible issue with low presure sometimes the filters are clogged and needs to be changed or there might be mineral buildup in the inlet line
Changed the RO membrane and now the water coming out of the faucet is not filtered water. It's like the RO membrane is being bypassed...What did I do wrong?
So if my water supply is too low, (input pressure); can I release a little pressure from he pressure tank to allow a higher "volume" of water to enter the tank?? NOTE: I know this will reduce my output "Pressure" but I am really most concerned with the low "Volume". I am currently getting only 2.5 cups of water every few hours.
I have Mercola reverse Osmosis sistem all hooked up at fucet no water or Air coming true got pressure 10 lb at tank air ballon after i got water feeled 45 lb so should be ok whenn how soon doo i get any water at facet ? Thanks for your ancer !
Aquaman, I love your videos! After a number of tests, i found I had water going INTO the RO membrane but NONE coming out. Taking it apart I found the membrane packed with carbon material. (I have a 5-stage system. It wasn't granules, but "brittle film" that broke up when I rubbed my finger over it. It was also in the last stage of the carbon filter. I cleaned the filter chambers and buying a new membrane. Any idea what caused this?
I replaced an old system with new pre-filters, membrane and post filter. The only parts retained from the old system were the faucet and accumulator tank. I serviced the empty tank to 8 psi. Upon applying first water pressure, I had an audible flow that quickly filled the pre-filters and after a minute or so, flow could be heard in the waste-water line. However, after 10 minutes of healthy inlet flow, I was seeing nothing at the faucet. I disconnected the line between ASO and post-filter . . . zero flow. Bad or poorly connected ASO?
Deanna Douglas Yes, I would check the ASO valve connection to see if that could possibly be the problem you are experiencing. If that is not the problem, please call our customer service department and we would be happy to trouble shoot with you.Our phone number is 888-801-7873. We are open Monday - Friday 7AM-7PM CST.Thank youWaterFilters.NET
What if in the morning, after zero use of the faucet, I get a trickle, and the tank is not even full, but feels empty? Why is the tank not filling up with water? Yes, all water valves are turned on fully.
Wow, great video. Lots of good information. I changed the filters and everything seemed ok for a week or two. Then the pressure in the tank was low and we pumped it up and the pressure is good. But now the taste is off. I did not change the finishing filter when I changed the other four filters. I did not change the finishing filter because all of the other filters were very clean. Do you have any suggestions? Change the finishing filter? Flush the system? Or what? Thanks so much.
We replaced our tank, but it does not fill. We've followed the steps to re-pressurize the tank, installed new filters, have checked to see that water is entering the system. We get approximately 30 ounces of water than nothing. Suggestions?
Are you certain the RO system is producing water and actually delivering it to the fridge. Check this by removing the water line from the back of the fridge. Obviously you'll need to have a bucket handy for this. Does the fridge have an integrated fridge filter? If yes, when is the last time it was replaced. Even though your RO water is very pure, the fridge filter will need to be replaced at least once per year.
excellent video. i have a watts premier RO system from costco. everything seems to be ok, except i get this vibrating noise (humming noise) that is quite loud at night. at first i thought maybe the tank was too full, which we drain out the water to drink and let it refill, but it still makes that noise after a while later. what could be the cause? please help.
We had our RO system sitting in storage for a year. Is it still safe to use or should we completely change it out or change out the filters? We have it installed in our house now but scared to use the water.
I had a low volume problem, so I emptied the tank and pressured it to 6 PSI when the tank was completely empty. After that the tank doesn't get filled with a water. 6 hours later, air pressure is still 6 PSI but its empty. What may be the problem? Thank you!
Todd Surdick Good Question! Yes the pressure inside of the tank will decrease when the tank is not completely full. Please let us know if you have any other questions!
Wow, you provided great information in the video! I have a Watts ZRO-4 and the Recirculation Pump seized. Then modified it with a ASO valve, and check valve between the membrane and GAC filter. The task piqued my interests, now I'm considering adding another housing at the end of pre-filters. E.g. a 5 micron coconut shell carbon cartridge, or a VOC Filter block. I just wonder if doing all that is unnecessary, considering the membrane does it too. Hope you can help. Thanks for the helpful video!
Great explanation, thanks! We have a GE RO system and no water is coming at all. We know that what happened to it was that the water was left on here at the acreage and the well was run dry, which clogged up everything in the RO system and we figured it was just the filters that needed changing so we bought new ones and tried to install but there isn't any water coming through at all. After watching the video, can you tell me what you think might have happened? Do I need a new tank also?
@fadifanous That is highly unusual. I suspect either your system is incorrectly installed/configured or the polishing filter (last filter after the membrane), or the membrane itself is defective. is the membrane a chlorine tolerant membrane, and if not (probably isn't) are you using a carbon pre-filter to remove chlorine, and are you being faithful to change it on schedule. Chlorine will burn most membranes if not protected by a carbon filter.
One of the only videos that perfectly describes how the system works. Top stuff!

very thorough explanation on how to troubleshoot the RO system
Thanks for explaining the system, with your help I found out what’s wrong with our RO system here.
Glad it helped!
Easy to understand. Cover the pump on this I will be very grateful, tell also why we get high volume of brine water than permeate when ASOV is ok
Thank you so much for this video! I thought my RO just had an enlarged prostate, but you have relieved my fears.

Thank you sooo much for the video. I would listen to that trickle for an hour, couldn't figure it out. I check my tank pressure after watching, it was 20 P.S.I.! I pumped it to 35 P.S.I., trickle no more. Thanks again!
Glad it helped
@wooderson92 8-10 psi when empty, 35-40 when full of water.
it works perfectly. just needed to adjust the air pressure of water tank. Many thanks!
Great video. The problem I'm having is that my tank will not fill. After replacing my filters and opening the supply valve I could hear the water fill the filter housings but then stops without any water filling the tank. All lines/valves are open. any help would be appreciated.

Really good explanation of how it works, I think I need an ASO valve!!! John. UK
Good luck!
I have same problem with my system. If you know the solution please share, thanks
Simple swapout of the RO water storage tank. I got a new 4 gallon tank from Amazon.
i am on my second tank and now have to replace my ASO valve for a proline plus RO. Aquaman help!
How much water should be coming out of your membrane to rule out a filter problem vs a tank bladder problem
Hi ..
*****
Thanks for responding.. I did as you said and drained it and let if fill again..three times actually.. and it's still murky. Any input as to why.. would be greatly appreciated.
621Lori If the only thing you changed is the faucet in the RO system, it does not make sense to why your water would be murky. How long has it been since you changed your filters and membrane?
how much time it takes for water filter machine to start giving water after full service?
yep got a bad tank glad I stayed as it started off on different subject but I had an idea maybe Id hear something about tanks
You are welcome.

Thanks!
Excellent video to understanding RO systems. Thank you.
Hi
my tank is empty and wont fill up, there is water coming from the sink pipes and up to the 1st filter with lots of pressure ,after that im not sure where the blockage might be any help would be appreciated. Thanks
So helpful. Just saved me a bunch of hassle and money!
I am getting a link from the faucet running down the red tube. I notice the filters are humming. are my filter bad?
We are open Monday - Friday 7AM - 7 PM CST.Have a great day!
If I wanted to use this system but bypass the ro filter, is it as easy as just rerouting the tubing to skip it
The pressure valve on the top of the bottle started to leak a water.
Thanks!
Thank you so much for this! So clearly explained. Keep up the great work!
What's the least amount of pressure before the tank refills?

Very good presentation. Thanks for sharing this video.
a defective tank is not the only posible issue with low presure sometimes the filters are clogged and needs to be changed or there might be mineral buildup in the inlet line
Always a good idea to check if your filters need changing or if the lines are clogged.
Nice video. Do you know why would an RO system make rumbling sounds every not so often when we turn it on to get a drink of water?
Tom & Jerry's Vlogs
1. Diaphragm
2. Check the pump
Changed the RO membrane and now the water coming out of the faucet is not filtered water. It's like the RO membrane is being bypassed...What did I do wrong?
@fadifanous Please describe the residue. Is it something you see in a glass of water? Please explain, I need more details to figure it out.
THANK YOU! I want to compliment you on your presentation; you did an excellent job explaining everything. Blessing to you for sharing.
Explained my problems step by step. Thanks man
Wow, great video.
What about continuous running and a hissing sound? I can't exactly tell where the hissing is coming from but I think it's from the ASO.
Very helpful and professional. Thank You
Are you certain the RO system is producing water and actually delivering it to the fridge.
Fantastic work my friend. Very concise. Wonderful and helpful video 👍👍
Glad it was helpful!
excellent video. i have a watts premier RO system from costco. everything seems to be ok, except i get this vibrating noise (humming noise) that is quite loud at night. at first i thought maybe the tank was too full, which we drain out the water to drink and let it refill, but it still makes that noise after a while later. what could be the cause? please help.
We had our RO system sitting in storage for a year. Is it still safe to use or should we completely change it out or change out the filters? We have it installed in our house now but scared to use the water.
It would probably be a good idea to change out the filters and sanitize the system just to be on the safe side.
I had a low volume problem, so I emptied the tank and pressured it to 6 PSI when the tank was completely empty. After that the tank doesn't get filled with a water. 6 hours later, air pressure is still 6 PSI but its empty. What may be the problem? Thank you!
I filled a few glasses of water... If the tank is 1/2 full, does water pressure decrease much ?
Todd Surdick Good Question! Yes the pressure inside of the tank will decrease when the tank is not completely full. Please let us know if you have any other questions!
Hi, just wanted to say thanks. Nicely done!
I'm not familiar with "jet" pumps. What is it? How is it different from an ordinary booster pump?
Very good video on troubleshooting. Thank you.
