    Thank you Evans, one more time. Your insight and additional color to the story of opera in general...and those you enhance in particular before the curtain rises in Music Hall....always puts an extra 'beat' into the work.

    This is an excellent invitation to learn about Opera and the different stories involved in great masterpieces. Mr. Mirageas speech here is perfect to understand the plot and meaning of Turandot to someone who doesn't know what's it about.

    Turandokht is based on “Nezami Gangavi’s, Persian Poet, Haft Paykar” or “Seven Beauties” from 12th century.
    It is not from China...

    Love triumphs? If ever two characters from Opera did NOT deserve a happy ending it's Turandot and Calif. He stands around watching them torture and murder poor Liù just to save his own ass, and Turandot is the one of the most unpleasant bitches in any opera. That said, the music and arias in "Turandot" take our breath away. They just need to change that ending.

    Turandot could easily be classified as a serial killer who enjoyed cutting up her possible suitors heads. The excuse, sweet revenge on something that had happened way before her time. The music is great, the story, terrible. Bundy was sentenced to death, Turandot was redeemed. Calaf should beware, his wife could go back to her old tricks.....

      I disagree, I think she was more so afraid she would be back stabbed again. But once she realizes he really does love her she doesn't have to fear it happening again and has no reason to kill any more suitors.

      Also it's not murder if they new the conditions up front, it's more like suicide.

    The three tenors rendition of Nessun Dorma is an abomination! Franco Corelli on his own is twice what those three could do together. If you haven’t heard this before throw away your three tenors recording and listen to Corelli. You won’t need it again after you’ve heard him singing Nessun Dorma. And the rest of the opera too of course.

      Pavarotti is actually good, but there are a lot of better tenros. But Carreras and Domingo?! They are the most overrated tenros ever

    It is not pronounced TuranDOT. IT IS TURANDOE

    • @Pxbsd
      @Pxbsd 2 года назад +2

      The original play by Gozzi was spelt Turandotte so the the 't's were pronounced . The original word comes from Farsi and the 'dot' meaning daughter is a transliteration and should have the 't' pronounced. Turandot was composed by two Italians, Puccini and Alfano, has a libretto by two more Italians, Adami and Simoni, is based on a 12th-century poem by a Persian, and is set in China. No connection to France and its language whatever. It’s a hard “t” at the end. Hope this helps illuminate this for others who may be misguided on the pronunciation.
