This is a great and important topic. We have comunicated about drambo before and let me repeat… I REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVE Drambo But it seems that it sounds a bit “flat” When you listen to soft synths from Moog and Dimitrij Pavlov they REALLY pack a Punch. It may be because of my skills but Drambo doesn’t pack the same kond of punch. Last month i did a jam with a friend. He used a hardware modular synth abd i used Drambo and Drambo just sounded “weak and unpunchy” in compare.
Reminds me alot of the micrologue in Cubasis! I mentioned this when I demoed it on this week's Livestream :) You'd actually be surprised how many sample pack websites don't have ability to preview the pack!
Love the format of this video Jakob. Informative in many ways. You sold me on this one. If you like to have large sessions, a simple synth option like this is going to be perfect. I rely on poison 202 for this usually but I’d bet Krill is even more efficient than Poison-202. That is one suggestion I have for future “this or that” comparisons. It would be awesome to see the difference between synths and/or effects in terms of processing demand. Great work dude. Btw, at $10 no one should be complaining in my opinion. Obviously simplicity is a part of this package. I love SynthMaster 2 but holy dancing cow is it overloaded with features. Many times I just need a simple synth like this.
I totally get it. I love how much I can actually do with synths like SynthMaster 2, but I usually end up grabbing something more quick to work with when I want to produce. And many times I go for synths that have a specific type of sound. Most often it’s stuff like Microlouge in Cubasis, Model D, Volt synth (and of ccourse Agonizer😅).
Great video! As always… haha - I loved the commentary more than anything this time however - I hope the devs do hear your advice it is a very valuable one! As for the synth, I think it sounds great honestly. I’m sure eventually I’ll end up checking it out when I have some time to play around with it. I’m totally on the whole same boat though - you might not “NEED” a synth but honestly there is mostly no two synths that are “the same” and part of the beauty of it is precisely that. The uniqueness of each approach and how they can vibe with you and your production too cause UI & UX are quite important too.
You brought it to the point again with the samples. This is what I was missing. Almost any desktop app offers samples and so far on the iPad I found Korg only. I wished Apple would offer try versions. Thanks! BTW: I saw you used Senode as sequenzer also, and this is an amazing sequenzer. KRILL I had.
Thanks for another good review, Jakob. You raised several important points, not only with this synth but with iOS music apps in general: manuals, interface, product page content. Other aspects too many devs fail at are customer support and updates according to what customers ask for. Best to you!
I’ll be talking more about stuff like this.m I’m the future. I’ve always wanted to do it, but I’ve been reluctant because I’ve been worried that I might piss people off. I no longer worry about that. I just want to speak my mind. 👊
@@JakobHaq Piss them off: Your reviews are honest, and nobody can (or should) dispute your knowledge and experience with music apps. Devs will either step up their game in terms of quality, customer-driven updates, proper documentation, and good CS…or they will (and should) get out of the game. The net result will be increasingly better apps, more sales for devs, happier users, and even better music and production potential. Being completely honest and transparent in reviews benefits everyone. Thanks again, Jakob.
As always, thank you for your insights, and for framing the discussion in such a meaningful way. I'd be curious to know if the developers used samples for their wave forms, or if they were calculated. Clearly, different synths have different sounds. One might want an Oberheim SEM and a Moog 15, and use them in different contexts. Still, at some point, one has a long list of VA synths of generally similar capabilities and must say: Enough!
You make some important points about the information that is, or isn't, available to guide and inform app buyers. There may be other hidden gems out there. Hope you carry on helping us to discover them. 😀👍
In all fairness... Bleass Monolith can notch up to Krill with the purchase of the additional BLEASS compressor, filter, shimmer, delay, reverb, granulozer, flanger, etc... at that point you get all of the above with buying Krill synth?
I really like Monolith's gui. Sliders make a lot of sense on touch devices. Sound and gui are the most important deciding factors for me. For instance, I love Zeeon but I rarely use it because I don't like the interface. Developers should realize that skeuomorphic design hinders the user experience.
I bought this as soon as I heard Doug using it. I have LOTS of synth apps but I wanted something that's fast to use, straightforward, no menu diving and sounds good. This ticks all the boxes. I'll be able to map all the controls onto my Akai Midimix too. Great review Jakob 😉 oh and love the Moo as well haha

A number of good points here. The lack of detailed information and especially sound demos from the developer should be a problem; especially for such a mediocre UI. For maybe $3 this might be a good value? The thing there is competition from apps which do have those things from the developer. (iSEM and Sunrizer are must haves long before something like this) Iceworks, Audio Damage, Audiokit, Kai Aras, Yonac, and Bram Bos are just a few showing how making AND then publishing/supporting an IOS synth should be done.

Is it midi auto assign? Great job by the way!
No auto. However, like most AUv3 synths, Krills mappable parameters are exposed for MIDI learn mapping when using It in an AUv3 host.
