- Hype Performance Group are back with another payware product - a Hot Air Balloon for Microsoft Flight Simulator. It's releasing on 7th October 2022 fro $15USD directly on their own website... but for the price, is it worth it?

I'm going to buy it.. Its not perfect yet but knowing HPG's work ethics on the H135 and H145... my $15 will be worth it in the long run. Always love to try new ideas.
They need to do some massive rigid airships. That will be much more useful to create historic routes etc.
That would be interesting to see! Again though not sure it'll be something I'd use very much at all beyond once maybe twice
It'd be really cool to incorporate that with the Wing42 4-course navigation aids included with the Boeing 247. But I recently discovered that it appears Wing42 is defunct now.

I'll definitely be getting this product, but it does need loads of work in the initial inflation sequence. Should start out on it's side, like a real balloon, with a ground crew manning a fan for inflation. The surrounding balloons need to all start out on the ground with you, and then inflate, or spawn in inflated, if you're at altitude. This will be a popular go-to for ballooning enthusiasts, for sure. Thanks for sharing this.
Great suggestions for improving it! I'd like to see a guide line/tether too so you can gain some height first instead of leaving the ground and immediately being swept away by the wind

I agree that it's neat, but really a novelty. It will be fun to have them floating around on multiplayer, however! I'm also sure that someone will "mod" it to go several hundred knots and then it will just become annoying. 🙂

I agree with what you say. A great idea! It's great to float silently over cities or beautiful landscape. But it would not be used that often. A bit too expensive I think.
Indeed... Perhaps $5? I'd still more be inclined to angle it as freeware though

you pretty much summed it up already - it needs all the functionalities incl. proper set-up with an inflation fan. MSFS might not be designed for that kind of stuff, but ideally there also should be the ground crew that you can talk to over the cb-radio... having a chase vehicle follow along the actual roads and that kind of stuff...
one thing must be said: this is way better then any other balloons so far in the SIM-world

I'm sure it is not for every pilot, but balloon pilots everywhere could get a real kick out of it if it was truely realistic in every aspect.

I also have beta tested the hpg hot air ballon and I do agree that 15 USD is too much for what your getting. Like maybe either freeware or just like $5.
$5usd would be a more reasonable price point if they wanted to charge for it

Are hot air balloon’s allowed on VATSIM? Could be nice to spectate Gatwick traffic a few miles away from the airport (within allowed airspace of course).

Just log in as an observer.
Give it time, someone will mod it so that instead of a basket there's a caravan hanging under it, then you can cause as much chaos at airports as you want until the aviation rozzers arrive :)

I think the follow the route is so you can be a passenger and mostly enjoy the landscape .
Indeed 🙂 you have to plan it in the world map then you can set altitude and route mode for it to maintain the height and route to your destination regardless of wind... Or just take off, leave it in wind mode and set altitude to hold instead and still just go where the wind takes you 🙂

Tbh I can imagine me and a couple mates just mucking about with it every now and then. So idk i'm kind of tempted to do some silly things with friends. Will do it when I got £15 to throw away I guess.
It's nice to have in the background as someone said in discord - working from home but sailing over a part of the world silently on another screen which would be quite cool

Found this for "free" somewhere so I got it. I really wish they included a tether so you're not flying off with nowhere safe to put it down lol. The people on board are also pretty annoying

This is a "five bucks" casual addon at best, I'd like try it on VR for sure, but not at this price, so I'll pass. Freeware balloon already exists, but it is not as "realistic" as this (yeah, that says a lot).
Nearly £15 for that, I paid £13 more for my Baby Boeing, I'd pay £2 max for that
