Have a 59 like J C, felt meh and disappointing the first few days out but got better as it wore in (15+ days of riding). Definitely agree with Avran on the heelside wash. Durability has been the only thing great about it. It's a decent cruiser for riding with my GF as she progresses but I'll be picking up something more fun this season. You can rail it but takes effort and isn't the best... I qualified for a dual slalom and survived to be the last non-hard booter in the elimination over here in euro land... in the end it's a snowboard and will do what you're capable of, not what it is (watch marcus Kleveland on a nitro cannon).
I`ve watched most of the 100 reviews and I`m still curious what`s the perfect board for you?
Can you describe your dream board that still does not exist?
If you have the option to take some of the new decks and then tweak its geometry and construction, what would you do?
I'd buy the second year K2 Jibpan then proceeds to leave weights on it to decamber it a little.
I have last seasons 154 and love it 😉
I love my STH greats from '19. I agree 100% about the pop just kinda being there and getting the job done... definitely not mind blowing. I still do grab this board pretty often though when i just wanna ride something. it's a solid daily driver, pretty fun everywhere. i was always curious what your daily is? and what boards you're hyped on for '21?
Just watched TJs review of top 5 do it all boards. This was his top pick. That guy just cant talk anything down. Its nice to be positive but its way more useful to hear the pros AND cons in a review. This board will obviously work for some and not others. Having a broad spectrum of info to make your decision with is gold. Guess TJ is just scared of missing out on free shit. Keep it up Avran. Your review of my last board was dead on the money. Thats why my next board will be based on me having more experience and you giving great information.
I really wanted to get this board, but your review persuaded me not to get it. Thanks for the info guys 👍
Were you riding the 156 or the 154? I had similar experience in last season’s 156. Not to mention that when I would lay the board on a flat surface the board seemed to be twisted, only 3 of 4 contact points would actually lay flat. Board seemed twisted. Same with my buddy’s 154. Guess I’ll be grabbing the jackpot 156 this season instead.
So what you got was a board that slipped through QC and shouldn't have been sold. They pulled it from the mold while it was still hot and that caused the twisting.
Hey Angry, I have to agree with you, on heel side carves this board wants to wash out, don't get me wrong though, it's still a great board
I've got this board in 159 it just works perfectly all round with my riding style solid build board will take a beating
What is your riding style ? Thanks.
“Just ignore them - they’re not important.” 😂🙏🏽
What's you're favorite year for the greats? I have a 2016 size 152 and want to get a second one for when this one goes. Love this board.
2018 and older.
@@AngrySnowboarder what did they change on the board? Thanks brother!
Was hoping to pick this up this year, waited for your review and now I don't know what to get. Really trust your reviews because they reflect my own experience with boards I have owned/tried. I really like the feel of Jibsaw and it works well for the weather here but it's not wide enough for me (size 12US) and they don't sell the wide version here.
I'm located in east Canada. Mostly go to Quebec for snowboarding. I ride twice a week when possible, so around 40+ days. I'm 6ft, 175lb and size 12US. Mostly just going to be carving and playing around in groomers. Wanted to try out an asym this year, because I read they're great at carving. Do you have any recommendations?
It's not that they're great at carving it's that they change the dynamic of how you carve. Look at some of the Lib/Gnu boards they have a few asyms that will fit the bill for you.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thanks for your reply. Would you say the GNU Rider's Choice in 155W is a good fit?
That might be a little stiff than what you're used to, I think the Head Space or Space Case might fit the bill for what you're looking for.
How does this compare to the NS Proto type two, I’m juggling between these but after hearing your comments on the redesign I’m steering towards the TT
Neither. Both are turds.
Angry Snowboarder recommendations for anything similar or least turd-like?
Plenty, but that requires more context to your question.
Greats needs yes modern camber.........badly. I have been riding the 2021 yes jackpot with full camber, absolutely love it. Did a head to head test vs greats 154. The greats is fun but it’s too front foot heavy which makes it hard to really lock in a carve.
Just bought the Capita asym 156 2021. Will try tomorrow :)
How did it compare?
Thanks for doing this, was anticipated by Randy. Also here is a quick question: The K2 Taro Tamai, seems like a boot made in heaven for beginner/intermediate snowboarder, soft flex and filled with tech?
Best boot is the one that fits your foot shape, fits your needs, and gives you the performance you want. It's a boot designed around a lot of ankle flex.
Hey can you drop a review for the GNU Rider's Choice?
Well we could, but you didn't ask nicely so no.
Avran, do you have an idea when you're going to start dropping binding reviews? I see Union started canting the forces, and stratas, any idea how many degrees they put on those? Not a fan of the 3-degree canting, doesn't agree with my knees or hips, it's too much.
That's a next month project. Haven't looked to into that, but also haven't heard back from Union about getting some bindings for review yet either.
@@AngrySnowboarder understood, thanks- might try some cartels this year if they did indeed cant the Forces.
@@michaelkulig7874 I love the cartels and the auto cant in the cartels just work, for me anyways.
Hello reviewer of the internet. How would rank the previous years models? Did you feel like they were improving up until this particular model? I'm asking you because I'm busy ignoring everybody else atm.
Anything pre 2019 was super solid and some of the best they were. When they revamped it in 2019 it just lost some of its power and flex.
Hey Avran, I was about to buy one of these until I saw this... I'm 5'10" 225 size 12 boot advanced rider in CO, and I like to charge the whole mountain and switch it up, but not much park. I picked up a 2019 Gnu Rider's Choice C2X 158w and I love it so far, and I'm totally sold on asym twins. I want another asym that's more traditional camber or camrock in a similar size and the choices are Greats in 159, the Smokin Awesymetrical camber 159w, Ride Twinpig 157, Nitro Fury 157, Capita Asymulator 156 (the last two might be too narrow). I also have a Jibsaw HD 158w that I got based on your review, and I love that board and I want something similar in an asym that's a bit less stiff. I'm leaning towards the Smokin Awesymetrical in traditional camber, but there aren't many reviews for it (hint, hint), only for the rocker camber version. What do you think is the best of these boards, and are there other boards I should be looking at?
I'd go Awesymetrical honestly.
Great review Angry. I heard same about controlling the board from inside the bindings in the jackpot 2016, friend believed it was due to midbyte. But you like jackpot 2020 so is should not be midbyte. Did you try a production model or a demo of the greats? is this years greats softer than the jackpot? I own a 2017 greats & love it for park and carving, do you think capita asymulator is closer to it than greats 2020? Many thanks.
Should have been a production model. Stiffer than the Jackpot but not by much. The Asymulator is WAY better than the Greats, but it is softer in the tips.
@@AngrySnowboarder Many thanks sir!
Angry Snowboarder How is it way better?
Better than a spring break twin?
No.
Would you recommend the 2020 Yes Great or the 2020 Gnu Riders Choice for Riding in the park more?
Neither.
What would you recommend for 60% park and 40% all mountain that a size 12 boot would fit?
K2 Bottle Rocket, Ride Burnout, Rome Agent, Capita DOA, Burton Custom Camber.
Did you guys test the Yes jackpot?
Have you used the search function?
@@AngrySnowboarder blame YT, it's not in my subscription feed
I have an old 04 Un Inc, perfect condition too. Absolute love it but doesn't ride anywhere near as good as my Kazu or Custom x
Aww. Just bought it from new with a 60% discount and my last board was an old Morrow Clutch so I expect improvement nonetheless...
I was REALLY looking forward to picking up an asym all-mountain freestyle deck this year- definitely disappointed hearing that it sounds so meh. Capita needs to make a wide for my 10.5's! Pull some strings for next year Avran!! So many narrowish boards when I basically have an average foot for riders....
10.5's will fit on the Asymulator 56.
The 2019 model looks sweet as fuck and rips. Its weird how they changed it.
Last year I chose this board over the Decade, your reviews came out too late. Now I bought a Not So Basic, and man... I expected the Greats to be something like this. Actually you were the only one source making me buy the NSB. Last year even Yes support talked me out of the Decade saying its a stiff jump board. Not to mention snowboardingprofiles and ... you know the other one :D So I imagined it being something like a Slash ATV with extra carbon... f*ck them all.
Snowboardingprofiles doesn't even ride the product they just read the manufacturers description and go from there.
True is hard !!! 😂
This board is so superior in every way to last years model (which I owned). I suggest you try and find anyone else saying bad things about this board rather than this one off poor review. Carves way better, has more pop and is more stable...and thats based on a LOT of riding both boards.
Well that's why you're the expert with a plethora of reviews and tons of knowledge Bill.
you were right about this deck - it is not very good, I should've listen. Its proportions are wrong and the base is too soft for sintered. thanks anyway.
And yet people always doubt me.
And they paid for being doubt.
Wanted to buy one, won’t buy one....
I have the older YES in 153 & 156 ( pink and green ) if you riders know about the mid byte !!! From the jack pot ! This is the new yes a jack pot asymetric ! Im not shure about this ! Mid byte never liked ! Buy the capita azymulator , if you love YES , get the TYPO ! freestyle all mountain ! I have riding all of them ! I can tell you ! I have been in burton ,capita ,Yes , Bataleon Ride , Jones , Libtech , for many winters more than 25 winters with a 100 riding days ! Each one ! ... what Angry bird said is a total true ! And he did’nt pay me but he promise me a t- shirt ! Sweter ! Jajaj broma amigo ! Enjoy the witer 2020 and take out your walet !
Arturo Espinoza I’ll help you with your newbie question from the Asymulator’s review comments, it might be that you genuinely don’t know that. Any board, the same model but in a smaller size, will feel less stable at speed, more flexy but easier to flick around at a given weight 😂 ‚I have riding them all’ haha
‚25 winters’ ago you probably weren’t even an itch in your dad’s pants.
Trolling =/= Constructive criticism
@@DG-xj6zv sorry but I been a rider From 1975 ... Star as a Surfer 🏄♂️....1986 star as snowboarder ...do you know Craig Kelly ? E gave one of his board for 2 of my surfboards !!! I can be you gran Pa ! DUD !!! 🇲🇽🤙🏽
The greats ! Is a greats !
Arturo Espinoza you own one with the new tech?
You can really tell the dissapoinent in your voice=))
159 for 250lb gorilla?
No.
@@AngrySnowboarder ok. Do you recommend this one at all?
No.
these reviews bogus as hell. no riding footage means your opinion means crap, null and void. this fawking board is amazing
This statement has nothing to back it up which means it's null and void. It's also full of crap.
@@AngrySnowboarder the only thing this fool has ever buttered was his butt when bubba called him a biscuit lmao. Look to real reviews like TJ from board archive. this dude's channel is whack.
