This seems like Line 6 has finally created a worthy and appropriate successor to the original POD beans. I've been carrying the "bean" with me in my gig bag, to and from work (nights shifts) and this little guy may finally give it it's retirement papers after about 16 years or so! Fantastic.
The Bean 2.0 is such a great piece of gear. I still have one and the huge Floorboard that works with it. I also have a Helix and yet, I cherish my POD and will never sell it.
A touring act showed up at the venue a month ago , 2 guitars and bass . Not 1 amp on tour Helix for the guitarists with their exotic pedal boards . In ears and nothing but amazing tone in the mix . A year ago a friend that I've mixed many times showed up to his cover gig with the Helix LT . In the 1st set break we laughed at his tones , it was sinful that he nailed every tone he dialled in without a real amp or pedals . Best he's ever sounded and he loves it .
Oh yes. I remember the Fixx. What I love about this clip is how Tim is inspired by the HX to write music. Sounds great too. It seems the unit is intuitive enough to be creative with. With that in mind, I am now very interested in trying and HX Stomp myself :)
I use my Helix in front of my clean Marshall and another clean custom 100 watt amp as a wet/dry setup. I like it so much better than an effects loop setup. Sounds amazing.
I liked what you said Tim P. when you said a new sound effect can inspire us to write a new song using it. Very true. :D Love seeing your stuff. Thanks!
very nice (for me!) to see you straying into modeling demos. Yes, modeling is not the exact same as plugging straight into a vintage tweed or standing in front of a cranked plexi, but it is so useful for so many things. For me it is my little rock and roll fantasy world, with so many great, usable tones and fx. My AX8 has definitely expand my musical world.
I've been around since before the first "Rockman". The digital stuff allows you to get great tone at volumes far less harmful and offensive to non-electric guitar playing humans. A decent modelling and effects unit in front(you can send/return the modulating effects if you like) of a decent amp and cab can be the best of both worlds, especially if your amp is multi-channel. Certainly makes for a simple, compact and versatile setup. Even without an amp, you can go direct and monitor and still get some great guitar sound. If it sounds good it sounds good. :)
These are re-issues, made in thir custom shop in Japan. I have the sbg 1820 version of his guitar, it has humbuckers, then there's one more version with EMG's
The HX Stomp is incredible. It can do almost anything you want to model. I have a Larry Carlton Sire S7 strat, the Stomp and an Orange Crush RT20 + Beyerdynamic dt990 edition 250 ohm headphones. Needless to say I'm not spending much time with the missus!
Tim, it would be really cool to see what more sounds and presets you could coax from this little unit. I'm really interested in this little pedal. Thank you for sharing. :)
I've been having a blast with my HX Stomp. BTW, if the preset starts with fx: it's designed to go into the front of the amp. Loved your playing and that guitar.
Wick Beavers great comparison. I have a family full of photographers and though I love the quality and tone of photos developed in a dark room and hand colored portraits which is a true art form, you cannot argue that digital has taken over the industry. My uncle teaches photography at a university and he still teaches them how to use a dark room which I think is cool and important but he always says if you didn’t make the switch to digital there will not be as much work for you.
Odell Mateo don’t be such a dick. Why would you even bother commenting if you don’t care? You’re a nice guy huh...prick. Easy to say to me in the comments on RUclips.
I like the wide shot showing the studio in one end of a living room like space. It's cool to see things in context sometimes. You should have a video showing the rest of your house, neighborhood and your wife. Call it the "Tim Pierce, behind the scene" episode. :)
Great breakdown! As much as I am considering 'dedicated/specialized' effects to add and control with my switcher - Strymon Mobius/Big Sky, Free the Tone Flight Time, Empress Echo System etc. this may have tipped me back to consider another multi-FX unit that could cover all that ground and give me a good direct sound option. Really loved this and it seemed to demonstrate a good workflow on the HX Stomp.
Wow!! Damn!! Woah!! You sound about as good as it can get!! Whew!! You are my new reason for playing. You make the chords and notes clean and pure. When I do my next recording(S) I'd like to hire you. Also I agree 100% with your words/ideas/ideals regarding any effect can trigger a song, however, what you create in an instant would take me a month!! You are REAL GREAT!!
Line6 is good stuff and def. bang for buck. Some people tend to get snooty about pedals, but if pros like Tim use, than that say a lot. I love my M5 and will get an M9 and the expression pedal some time in near future. My only beef is I wish it had larger screen and knobs. Lot of unused space on top part of case on M5. For gigging players the ability to control presets for sets using MIDI is really cool. Beyond what I need but I know a local pro who does this and it's very impressive Since the band runs tracks on everything, the controller software switches his fx on the fly. No pedal board tap dancing. Love your channel Tim!
Nice Tim! Easy to add a volume pedal, I guess? Just Googled it and answered my own question. Been using a Boss GT8 (have 3 of em') for years and wanted to go to the Helix, but this one makes more sense for me. Do you have experience with the sounds of the Boss GT8? Would it be night and day between that unit and this, soundwise?
Hey Tim, great video like always. I bougt today a HX Stomp. I will like to know which foot controller beside of the Mission Engineering work? I don't want to spend to much on a controller. Thanks all the great videos that you post and all the information that you share. Un saludo from España :)
this has to be one of the best helix stomp or any helix unti video I have seen.People are so caught up with the dont use an amp when playing thru a helix but this video proved them wron.Go by what sounds good.Ive used a ht60 black start a headrush and alos seymore duncan power stage 170 into a 212 black star, the last is my favorite.
I have the Helix and in all honesty it's best to mess around with it because you really can do stuff that wouldn't be feasible in real life. The Helix is a beast and I love it. Just set it up for acoustic (guitar mic) and then I have a SM58 mic for the ambient string pickup. I then mix in the Helix. Phenomenal sound and I can adjust echoics, amp+cab and compression. I've just set up one sound so far for the acoustic but will be adding more snapshots tomorrow I'm sure. I haven't even used the fx send/rcvs. Phenomenal machine. Might add pre-amp to SM58 and do some shaping there too.... The possibilities !!
Love the sounds of that box!! Hey Tim, on another note.. I read you were part of the group 3rd Matinee! I love the album Meanwhile! Holiday for Sweet Louise was a fav tune..
The Fixx... damn. Listen Pierce what's the deal... up late? Creating multiple crazy musical grooves... oh, listen to this! Just how good is your weed man? You can tell us. We've all been hanging with you for awhile... or is this a Samson kind of thing? Like you couldn't do it without the hat! That can't be true though... so many vids without the hat. Damn. Whatever you musical master...
Great video! I am thinking about buying a HX Stomp just for the ease of use. I have quite a bit of equipment that I want to reduce, but I don't want to get rid of my Marshall JMP-1 which I love. Can I insert the Marshall (and my Torpedo CAB) through the FX insert and have a chain where I have the HX Stomp provide something like an EQ and boost/drive before going out to the Marshall+CAB and after these have a bit of delay and/or reverb from the HX Stomp?
Nice demo video. I'd like to see y'all work with a Headrush Gigboard to compare the two. I really like the interface of the Headrush. It seems quite a bit more simple as far as tweaking.
superbford If fear of it being too complicated is what is keeping you from the HX Stomp, forreal I wouldn’t worry about it. I have never really used modeling amps and have barely used any multi-fix units and I picked it up so quickly. I Love the versatility of it and being able to have so many amp and pedal sounds at my fingertips. I’ve never tried the headrush, but I don’t know how it could be much easier =P
Tim! You've been one of my Unsung Heroes, since Working Class Dog/Runaway- your Solos and Tones are SO distinct, and melodic. Would you build a patch bank for HELIX please (especially all your tones from Living in Oz, and Rock of Life)!? I would LOVE to support you, by buying/using them ;D
I think the only two details that will make this little one perfect is that it has XLR outputs and has AC power, the musicians who tour will be forever grateful

Interesting guitar Tim - looks like Yamaha's version of an SG. Cool pedal. Sounds great. Curious, is it the M5 you have, or the M9. I thought it was the M5. I believe I purchased mine based on one of those vids.
Great demo, thanks. Be interesting as well to see you do it without putting it through another real amp. How do you hear your mic'd up cab in the studio anyway? What studio monitors do you have Tim?
I’ve had my HX Stomp for about two weeks now and it’s the best guitar accessory I’ve ever bought.
Still?
Still ? :D
9:25 “ the distortion is traveling nicely through the modulation” - Tim knows what Tim wants.

That Yamaha SG1802....... wonderful!!
This is definitely one of the better demos of this product. I love seeing it used in context of making music. Great job!
Tim Pierce is one of the best guitarists IMO. Tim, please make an instrumental solo-album!
Those pickups in that guitar sound outrageous.

Absolutely love those vintage Yamaha bevel top double cuts. Fantastic guitars. I wish Yamaha would reissue those!
Great video Tim!

I´v been using the Helix sins two years back and i never looked back :-)
Same !
It’s the 3 P Rule, (Tim) PIERCE + PARK AMP + P90 PICKUPS = Best Tone In The WORLD !!!
Tim, can you please post this patch ? Thanx.
12:14 late night and feeling tired riff creation...that's a nice vibe...into outer space style.
Tim, it would be really cool to see what more sounds and presets you could coax from this little unit. I'm really interested in this little pedal. Thank you for sharing. :)
Ha! “Coming to a coffee house near you!” Brilliant and so true. Big dreams, little venues. Great demo, Cheers. 👍
Tim, you are an inspiration. I love your passion and experience, keep them coming!
Love the demo man! Greetings from Singapore!
I've been having a blast with my HX Stomp. BTW, if the preset starts with fx: it's designed to go into the front of the amp. Loved your playing and that guitar.
Digital music is now where photography was 8-10 years ago. Just about to surpass analog with TONS of good reasons to dive in now.
Wick Beavers interesting comparison- I think analog and digital will coexist permanently rather than analog almost disappearing entirely.

This was 3 years ago, now with the latest update it will surprise you even more.
do you have any videos on How to use hx stomp for a helix backup?
Great breakdown! Man, that’s a killer sounding/versatile guitar.
Even the XL has only 4 stomps, I need buttons as I swap fx in and out mid song. Maybe ok for bedroom, unless you can afford thousands for multiples
What are the presets used here? I would love to have this tone! Love the show!
Tim your one magic dude gosh! what a musical treat
you're, sorry.
I'm glad to hear a demo finally with some good organic tones. Well done and great playing.

Okay, Tim.. where can I find that preset for the HX Stomp? It sounds phenomenal!!!! 😁
Albert Solano yes plis Tim!!
Yes, please!!!
... I love The Fixx! You're right... it did sound a bit like them!
I love your playing Tim - is the HX stomp good to use live to replace my feeble 4 peddles (tuner, OD , Delay, fuzz) ?

Just subscribed to your channel and really like the information and your way of teaching. My son and I both have the helix and love em.

You start playing around with the features and the sky is the limit! In other words…one thing leads to another! 😂😂😂😂
Whats the Yamaha guitar you are using Tim?
Thanks for this, I ended up buying one, and now hardly play my Helix anymore.
I am feelin it for Tim Pierce coooooooooooool guy!!!!!!!
Are you recording direct using only AX STOMP ?
Tim! You've been one of my Unsung Heroes, since Working Class Dog/Runaway- your Solos and Tones are SO distinct, and melodic.

Great video, but that Park clean sounds pretty awesome on its own...
Love your attitude toward presets. I constantly work with them as inpiration, then tweak them afterward to add some individuality, IF they need it.
Amazing!
I think the only two details that will make this little one perfect is that it has XLR outputs and has AC power, the musicians who tour will be forever grateful
HX stomp, Pod Go, or Pod HD500x ??
that what I wanted to know, how the amp Sims sound into a clean amp. thanks

Yamaha SG guitars are tremendous. Especially the high-end ones. As good as any guitar out there.
11:15 - Tim is having a good day!
Tim: would love to see you check out the Helix, but let YOU dial in the fur you get out of your amps.
Great demo, thanks. Be interesting as well to see you do it without putting it through another real amp. How do you hear your mic'd up cab in the studio anyway? What studio monitors do you have Tim?
Im sold.
I think I will buy this box to play guitar at home and have fun... before I save for something like the Kemper and some fancy Pedals
With the recent update you can now have 8 fx.
I thought the "Fix" sound at the end sounded more like Todd Rundgren. All good.
LOOVE your yamaha
Hi Mr Pierce how is the Latency. Is it noticeable? Thank you for sharing!
I have a Helix LT. There's no latency.
noelzhu1986 there is latency, just not audible latency. But if I walk away from my amp I’m getting latency.
@@davidfaustino4476 did you time these results. Video? 😁
I figure it would sound better through a PA or FRFR speaker than a guitar amp.
Good videos guys!!
Can it emulate the classic 80s Tom Scholz Rockman?
Nice
Will these presets work with my Line 6 POD HD500X? Love em! Thanks for your response in advance.
I'd love to support you by buying backing tracks.
Yeah! Where can we get all those backing tracks?
Looks like Tim was having a lot of fun with that Line 6 unit ;)
