    My small shop (approx. 19'x20' garage) has needed a proper dust collector for quite some time now, especially since so many of my tools have 4" dust ports. The small diameter hose on the shop vac just wasn't cutting it.
    After scouring the web and looking at all kinds of different dust collector options, ideas and hacks, I finally decided on the JET JCDC 1.5HP Cyclone Dust Collector and it is quite the upgrade to my shop!
    This video shows my unboxing, assembly and first power-up of this dust collector and I hope it will be helpful to anybody considering adding a dust collector to their shop.
    For more information on why I chose this dust collector over other models or diy hacks, please check out the blog entry on my site: www.stuffsethma...
    And of course you can add one to your shop using the following link:

    This video was more useful to me then a manual. Thank you Seth! Another way to mount heavy motor assembly to the frame is to lay both parts on the floor attach motor assembly to the frame and then simply lift it. If you can pull only motor assembly from the ground you will able to lift both parts.

    Good Video. My Jet DC is sitting on a dock waiting for delivery due to the Coronavirus. Your video was very informative. I was looking forward to your follow up video with hoses and fittings. I guess that never happened. Grinding the plastic to prevent cracking was a good idea. Another RUclipsr broke his trying to snap them on.

      David A. Kupka yeah when you're not a full time youtuber but still have bills to pay, you don't always have time to do all the videos you want to do. Sometimes you just gotta skip the video and get to work so you can finish the client job, get paid and keep the roof over your head. Looks like your channel is doing great though, keep up the good work! 🤦🏻‍♂️

    Very helpful video Seth and it is very much appreciated. I was assembling mine when I ran into something else that is not clear in the manual and that is which foam tape, of the 3 roles, goes where. The instructions show 4 roles of tape and they give the length in mm, not width which would have identified which role to use. It looks like you figured it out but I still can't tell which role goes where. Thanks for taking the time and for the most part this is an easy assembly.

    • @bombem1
      @bombem1 5 лет назад

      After watching the section of the video again I realized that the filter bottom actually uses the narrow tape (also thicker). The dust collector input uses the smaller role and the bottom of the cone and the can use the larger role (2 roles rolled into one large one). Hopefully this helps someone else, or I could be the only one who had to think 3 times about it.

    Seth;
    Very instructional. I am buying the exact unit based on your info. I would like to know the exact distance from the unit ( on wheels) floor to center diameter of the 6’ inlet port - I plan to put the unit in another room with a concrete wall in between, and the concrete wall will have an opening to pass tubing through - to keep the pvc pipe run as straight as possible from the Jet to the shop, that would be a helpful dimension! Thanks! (JET customer service could not provide that info!)

    • @stuffsethmakes
      @stuffsethmakes  5 лет назад

      I'd call it 43inches. I did swap out the caster wheels (with a little modification) but they're pretty close to the size of the original ones the unit came with.

      @@JJ-ey8ce So far so good. I'm still working through getting all the duct work installed so I can't speak to the ultimate results. I did document the unboxing and installation of my unit here:
      www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=298920&page=168
      Scroll down the page to POST 3349 - that's where the JET Dust Collector information starts. I did manage to cross-thread a bolt when mounting the Motor Assembly to the frame. Resolution of this issue is documented. POST 3355 also has an issue that I had forgotten until just now. I managed to pull the filter's "Beater Axle" out of its lower mount. The circumstances leading up to that may have been unique but it might be worth reviewing just to be sure that one doesn't duplicate that situation.
      This really is a walk down "Repressed Memory Lane" - POST 3357 details the construction of the Bag Frame. What a PITA!
      Ductwork installation gets started on PAGE 173 POST 3443. After a bit there's a gap and then it starts again at POST 3471. PAGE 179 has the last bit of information on ductwork installation so far.

      No new videos for it, no new info other than I still love it. I use it almost every day. It works more noticeably when using the planer & jointer, but you're going to find that to be the case with any dust collector since those machines spit out bigger pieces than a table saw/bandsaw/sander. Bottom line, I still use it and I still love it!

    • @stuffsethmakes
      @stuffsethmakes  5 лет назад

      No problems at all! I have my dust collector, welder, washer and dryer (my wife still gets SOME of the garage, haha!) all on one line, but I'm never running more than one thing at the same time. We usually do laundry after I'm done in the shop but there have been times when we're running the dryer and I have the collector going, and still no problems. That's just my situation, yours may differ.

      Russell Lowrey I love it. I use the Dust Right connectors from rockler so it’s easy to go from tool to tool. When I’d use the shop vac it would fill up quick. It’s nice to have this suction now. It’s also not nearly as loud as I was thinking it would be. My only complaint that has come up recently is the caster wheels aren’t great. I move the unit around a lot since I have a small shop so I might pick up some better ones and swap them out. All in all though, I’m extremely happy with this unit!
