My family and I are so grateful that I get to do this.
RIP Rolan's Uncle. One cool son of a bug...
"People use to be more kind when they had something to rewind". I love this!
Along with remembering a beloved Uncle who passed, I want y’all to take a moment to appreciate a very small, but amazing detail within this animation: his shadow.
Thanks, I hadn't noticed. Went back and rewatched it and you're right, the shadow is awesome
I somehow knew I'd get choked up...and I did.
This is a pure work of art
Thank you so much! (Sorry it got you choked up though! :/ )
Wonderful work. Beautiful animation and sweet storytelling. RIP to your uncle Crafsman.
(And VHS.)
@@SCU3A_S7EVE (and the rewind-fee)
Watching this was well worth the laser risk!
I adore Rolan's little arms. They move and gesture so expressively!
My brother pointed out that Rolan's stack of DVDs includes My Neighbor Totoro and an old Buster Keaton film. Rolan is clearly a bug of culture.
A dedication. The music at the end was truly inspired. Tom Waits would have been proud. As he said way way back..."It's not a purchase, it's a rental."
Aww man, THANK YOU! :)
To be honest, if I had a Tom Waits song in my head during all this, it woulda been "Hold On". LOL!
Felt like I was never gonna finish this little project.
👍 I’ve come to realize (and enjoy) that sometimes you have to rewatch to catch everything CrafsMan puts into his work. Literally a moving I Spy book.
That was beautiful.
Thanks so much, my friend.
I remember meeting an older gentleman working at one of the VHS rental stores in my hometown. He was a photographer when he was younger. He showed off an album of celebrities to my mom and me. I had good times with the VHS stores.
Beautiful job, CrafsMan. Rest in peace, Uncle Futon.
RIP Uncle 🕊️💜
Be Kind... Rewind 💜
Laser risk... haha! bless your uncle. He sounded like a great guy.
That was some impressive animation. It looked like real paper.
Rolan is a very engrossing speaker, he should try doing content creation.
A DVD IS A MOVING PART!!!
“Even if y’all ain’t seen each other in years, you can pick right back up where you left off.” man I love that.
I love this! how 3D the paper looks, with how smooth and detailed his movements are and how perfect the voice matches in character and animation is just wonderful :) it’s also just a sweet little story ❤ captured my heart
Love this little guy. I'd be so happy to see him again and again.
I'm sure it took an amazing amount of time and effort to bring Rolan to life.
So good.
This was a very inspiring and beautiful bit of work. I know the effort that goes into these so big pat on the back for this one good sir.
This is the kind of eulogy we should all aspire to be worthy of. RIP Uncle Futon.
My first experience with the CM… was him teaching in one of his vidos, how to transfer a colorful bird to a piece of wood using a laser printer and mailing labels.
Your leaps and bounds are so commendable my friend!
You continue to strive for excellence and achieve it in flying colors!!
I even used my VHS player as a means of doing analog music recording to tape.
Sorta a poor man’s reel to reel studio tape machine.
I’m sorry your uncle has gone on ahead.
Thankful that his imparted wisdom has surfaced through your art and character.
Keep on my friend *
✊🏻♥️
The lighting in this is simply lovely. What a touching story.
I'm sure Uncle Futon is enjoying the most amazing VHS library in the sky right now! With all the time for napping that he pleases. Be well Mr. Crafsman, losing loved ones is one of the hardest parts of living.
I'd be down for weekly stories from this bug RIP your uncle craftsman
RIP Crafsman's uncle. Wonderful animation to remember him by.
Rolan, I have two VHS recorder/players and both are having a moment of silence for your uncle.
RIP Uncle Futon! I loved this animation so much. It made me feel the nostalgia. Rolan is so cute. It was magical. Thank you Crafsman.
RIP to your uncle. This gave me nostalgia and longing for something I’ve never experienced, you did so well with the storytelling. It made me wish I’d grown up knowing extended family. To have little stories like this to look back on.
I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure Futon will be missed.
This is award level stuff! Puts me in mind of the best Ardman animation from the late 80s early 90's (Creature Comforts/ War Story etc.)
*Applause* another one of those videos you like as soon as you click the link because you know it's going to be good, and then want to like it again because it really was good.
My condolences CrafsMan.
This is a beautifully animated, superbly directed tribute.
The fact that this simple simple character has more plot intrigue that all modern cinema now-a-days goes to show you how much we need to protect the art. Huge smile on my face the entire time. I want more Roland.
The apple didn’t fall too far from the family tree… your uncle believed in his business and shared with you his wisdom and love of it, just as you do of your crafts and humor with us🙏🏻thank you for sharing❤️
Crafsman, you so talented! This animation is on a whole new level of cool. Well worth the wait.
Please be kind and rewind.....good times. I do like how he decided the movie section.
Sorry to hear your uncle passed away crafsman.... I think this lil video is a sweet tribute to him and his favorite format, good job dude. Great animation work, I'm really happy you get to animate like this now. Excited to see what's next crafsman. Much love to you and the crafsfam as well!
This video spoke directly to my childhood through the naked Atari joystick. Because if you were a kid with an Atari in the 1980s, THAT'S WHAT YOU DID TO THEM.
I feel that people have lost their ability to be patient since the decline of the VHS. Safe travels to your uncle Crafsman, may he find the softest futon to repose on.
I figure Uncle Futon for one of those VHS reminders that looked like a Corvette. This was so much fun, and I know how much work it took, but you can see the love in every frame!
Your uncle sounds like quite the character! What a charming story. So good to have such memories.
That "rewind" joke got me Crafsman. I'm dying over here...!
My condolences for your uncle... but... this is a wonderful animated beautiful testimony.
Hugs from Brazil
Beautiful animation, and a lovely tale. And as someone who still watches VHS tapes, uncle Futon was very correct about all of it, lol.
Mine all got warped and skippy from over-use :(
Fun as they may have been, it is not a format known for its robustness or longevity.
"Tape tape", indeed. What a charming video. I love it.
This reminds me so much of Don Hertzfeld's stuff, that simple style of art but with emotive movements and expressions, it's weirdly cosy...
I love all of this person's stuff, I'm glad I accidentally found it
Great job Crafsman! Worth the wait. The lighting was beautifully executed and I loved the rockettes playing in the background.
Brilliant work, Crafsman! Rolan is a treasure.
PATRICK! :D Always nice to see you, my friend. Thank you so much!
@@TheCrafsMan I love to comment on your videos, Crafsman. You make me feel like we're old buddies. But then, heck, I guess we've been doing this for years now, so... Well, anyway, I don't suppose this return to animation means we might get to see Mr Eugene again sometime? Sure do miss him.
That was SO perfect, Crafsman!!
The shadow when he was in front of the tv was beautiful!! Great job!! Not to mention the perfect mouth articulating. SO GORGEOUS TO WATCH!!
Excellent! The animation, lightning, textures, shadows, and motion tracking look amazing. This was fun and funny. Thanks!
Thank you so much, my friend! P.S. Uncle T-Nu gonna get a mention in the "how to" video. I used that bass-boost suggestion when I did the worldizing. :)
Not sure if I did it justice, but there is a major difference between the dry/original vs. mixed with the audio played in the room. I'm just not sure if I pushed it as much as I could have (or if I left the dry signal too hot). Anyway, I do like how the little sibillances (? or whatever the "s" sounds are called) and vocal details are allowed to carry and reflect within the room.
@@TheCrafsMan Thanks so much. It sounds good, very subtle, but sometimes the best effects are the ones that you don't hear as an effect. This sounded very natural to me. Nice job! : )
I still remember having a dedicated rewinder. good ol' times.
Pre-apocalyptic and post-apocalyptic is an amazing sorting system.
Everything you make Crafsman always makes me feel all cozy. Thank you! Especially now that the weather is cooling down, I need that cozy, homey feeling!
The shadow, the glimmer around the edges, the wobble and the fuzziness... this is beautiful animation, with an even more beautiful story. ❤
"That's the risk you take every time there's a laser involved."
I sorrow with you, hon. What a charming tribute.
I still watch and record on VHS in my dorm room. I grew up in the early 2000’s with VHS tapes and recorded shows. I now try to make custom VHS boxes and shows from HDMI and is such a fun bit to find a blank tape form my childhood and organize it.
I can't stop watching this video. It's just so ensnaring I can watch it over and over. Simply a freaking masterpiece
Condolences to Uncle Futon, and long live VHS. I grew up at the tail end of it, with DVD and Blu-Ray becoming standard formats before I was in high school, but now I love collecting VHS tapes as a hobby. I have 3 copies of Stargate on VHS.
This is genius in every sense. Thank you Crafsman.
The gas station in town had VHS rentals way back when. You'd take a laminated picture of the box art to the counter and they'd hand you the cassette.
OH MAN!!!!! :D "That good ol' days!" :)
There was one of these a few miles outside the community where I grew up. We called it "The Red Brick Store", and it was a single pump gas station with cold drinks, snacks, and approximately 37 VHS tapes to select from. :)
I think your uncle and I would have got along just splendidly.
Sorry buddy. I hear we all deal with loss in unique ways. This is comforting and inspiring. I can imagine this will be a source of warmth for you and all of us now and probably again.
Charming, cute, funny, and overall amazing!
Aww mannn, Mr. MEow! Thank you so much!
I see that "my name is nobody" in the background and now i want to rewatch that old classic
You've pulled out all the stops on this one the style and production values are fantastic.
New life goal…to hopefully be the type of aunt who inspires and earns this level of creative tribute when I’m gone.
This was absolutely beautiful. ❤️🥺
This will live on forever! ❤🎉😊
May that soul be at peace and rest in paradise... Blessings be upon you
There's nothing like going to the Video Tape Rental store and wondering the aisles looking for a movie or moives to watch on the weekend.
flashing lights, static, moving camera, dynamic character shadows? incredible! :D
Sir, you have outdone your own outstanding work. That was EXCELLENT! And hilarious.
Wow, that was crafted with love. Thank goodness this channel exists!
I'm mesmerized. It looks and sounds so polished and coherent. The story, voice acting and animation... :O
I almost forgot about those rewind fees! May your uncle RIP.
He would be proud of you, R.I.P craftsmans uncle
the most charming animation i’ve viewed all year!
That was the cutest thing ever. My brother’s first job was at a video rental store long before blockbuster. I also used tape to record over a video tape lol.
What a beautiful sweet creation in every way. Just brilliant. Thank you for existing Crafman.
Absolutely brilliant.
This is amazing. My husband and I laughed and agreed and laughed some more!
Another Crafsman Classic. My heart is full again.
OMG what feel goods! Hats off to you and your uncle both!
I love the sets. The Atari 2600 joystick missing the black padding is funny to me. Mine are the same way... I think I thought it helped somehow.
Beautiful tribute!
Thanks for the laughs! I needed that today. Sorry to hear about your uncle.
That little “wha?” at 2:17 is perfection.
This is one of the most awsome things I've ever seen on this platform, very well done and also very heartwarming
😂I love you crafsman. Such a creative enjoyable person. So wholesome. thank you!😊
Beautiful. As an animator myself I was blown away.
Nathan, these kinds of comments are so very encouraging to me. Thank you!
Coming back to this video after watching your video on Vocalsynth makes me appreciate this way more. All those little things sure do add up and creates a beautiful little piece of video.
This is too adorable. Thank you for making my day, Crafsman.
I really love your style, man! thank you so much for the craftin', for the laughin' and the filmin'. You bring joy, peace and beauty to my life,
Sorry to Hear of Your Loss!
Your Tribute to him shows his knowledge transcended onto you his Jedi Apprentice!
The torch is now passed on to you and your Crafnation Jedi Mastery! 🙌🏼🙏🏼♥️
As much as I love the crafting videos on your channel, I hope you don't give up on animation entirely just because of a few people on RUclips. Your animation videos are just as informative and entertaining as your DIY videos, and you should continue pursuing that passion regardless of some strangers on the internet or a hostile algorithm.
cRAFSmAn HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU aND THE CRAFS FAMILY. Your animation is amazing now. even the atmosphere and backrounds are on par with the big studio stuff. im so proud and happy to watch all your vids ..but your voice overs and animations hold a special place in my world. Thanks CrafsMan for existing in my world and allowing us to exist in yours.
Thank you so much for this. Honestly I was a little disappointed at the performance of this video (it didn't seem to be liked as well as any other episode) but I do still have it in my heart to animate. I think when I do another animation, it'll probably be all physical / toy like the dancing video. :) Thank you again for the encouragement, my friend.
“Godspeed, Uncle “Futon. Prayers for you and your family my brother. Sending love from WV.
You are a treasure. Thank you Crafsfamily
This was amazingly well done! The lighting, scenery, animation you name it absolutely nailed it. Would love to see more of these from you! My favorite part above all else is the stories and funny quips, your uncle must've been a real fun person to sit down and talk with. Simply wonderful. Thanks for sharing with us CrafsMan
