As a lost wax jewelry casting technician, I clean details on hundreds of wax castings every week. Wax might be new to you, but you are clearly good at transferring your skills from other mediums. It looks like you've been working with wax for months or years, instead of trying it for the first time. Most of our molds at work are for wax injection, instead of pour over, but we do work with a few pour molds. If you ever discover that you need more control over the temperature of the wax in your wax pot, Presto kettle fryers work great and are fairly cheap. We always buy our jewelry wax pre-mixed and it was very interesting to see a formulation made from scratch!

I am a miniatures sculptor. As in like 32 mm scale miniatures. I have most often worked in greenstuff and these kinds of putties. I have also worked with Cernit translucent clay which is about as close as I have found to a compound that has the best qualities of wax and clay and can be baked hard. I have long wanted to work in toy wax as I think I could achieve far superior results with a hard material like toy wax but I have yet to actually make the leap. I think I may actually do that now having seen this video.
Thanks Crafsman. I love your stuff.

Once upon a time I worked in the prototype shop of McFarlane Toys. We called an extremely similar recipe “Hasbro Wax” because one of the the former employees of Hasbro brought the recipe with them.
McFarlane also has their own grades of wax, one that is softer and can be pushed around without heated tools if you’ll have a strong desk lamp shining on it.
And another very hard green wax that was used for the final detailing pass. That stuff shattered when you dropped it.

Sounds like Monster Clay, which i absolutely fell in love with upon first use. I've only used medium texture and this seems like what i would imagine hard to be.
It melts to a liquid state, warms and bends, gets hard as a rock also, can polish to a shine, and lastly can keep the most intricate details. It feels so nice, and with no gross residue to build up on your hands like other clays. To me, it's magical all around, i just wish i had more time to set aside to sculpt!
I totally did that same thing, but without molds.. instead of having to wait to melt a big hunk of sculpting material, i rolled different size balls of it and sealed in a jar. That is a really good tip.
I enjoyed watching this and all the important info about best methods :D

Thank you so much for this Crafsman! I've been wanting to do this but ive been very intimidated by it. Your channel continues to be the best on RUclips for learning how to make your own toys the old school way. Much love and respect!

I have never worked with wax before, and still feel very much like a beginner when it comes to sculpting in general. But, as always, your video is inspiring and makes me want to give this a try - the advantages of wax really appeal to me! Crafsman, every video you make gives us encouragement to embrace that nervousness, and just dive in and try things. Thank you!

What a well done video, Crafsman. Beautifully edited, the flow was mesmerizing, the colors you choose make for a riveting watch. Of course your iconic voice is a huge factor as well. Your content, clearly, is so relevant to so many people. An excellent teacher. Thank you thank you thank you! Best video on so many levels I’ve seen on the internet in some time! Maybe the all time best!
