So glad you added that heat disclaimer ⚠️!!!!! My dad almost lost 3 fingers from pouring hot liquid in a glass bowl that was not meant for heat and it shattered. This can be super dangerous and people need to be very careful what kind of glass they are pouring hot liquid into.
That happened to me with chicken broth. I poured it into a hot glass bowl and it split in two and I burned my stomach so bad. I am surprised it didn't scar permanently, but it HURT. I was in High School at the time and I think that was the first time I had cried due to pain since I was a kid.
It’s best to be safe of course, but if you put a spoon or other metal piece into the glass vessel, (just while you’re pouring the wax and then remove) the metal will conduct the heat away from the glass.
For small candles, such as votives, after you pour the wax let it begin to set & thicken, then add a birthday cake candle to the center of the candle- instant wick😊

I make candles. Wicks are specifically sized (in thickness and material content) for the diameter of the jar. If you remove the wicks from a single tall jar and put it into a wider one, you'll get what is called "tunneling" when the wick burns. Meaning, you won't get a complete melted wax pool across the diameter of the candle. Instead, it will burn a hole straight down the center of the candle, creating a tunnel. The wick simply isn't fat enough to melt the wax across the entire diameter.
Funny you should say that. I've used a lot of commercial candles and they do tunneling and even turn off. Guess they don't use the right wick thickness.
@@paulmccartneyadorrer Place multiple wicks evenly - 3 should do it. You'll often see manufacturers using several wicks in one candle when making larger candles.
When I was a kid we took a dry, cleaned out, cardboard milk cartoon, opened it all the way at the top, put a wick in the middle, filled it with crushed ice and then melted wax. When the wax hardened we peeled off the milk cartoon. This gave the candle a very cool "Swiss cheese" look! 😃

Her reception venue was small (65 people) and had a huge mantle over the fireplace. We paired the candles with fake ivy on the tables (farmhouse style setup - a long table seating 24 or so - we had 3 of those) and across the mantle - so cozy and chic
@@songbird857 that’s very good compared to what many spend. I don’t want an expensive wedding, that money could go to better use. Good for you that you have a daughter who’s not consumed with over spending 💕
You can also fix this problem by making sure that the candle doesn't cool off too quickly after pouring. To do this, wrap your container in tin foil (only on the outside, of course) and heat it in the oven for a few minutes on "warm" (about 180 degrees).
Love these tips! Another fun way to customize when making a layered candle is to tilt the jar at an angle, pour the wax, and wait for it to harden. Then you can either pour the next layer right over it at the same angle, or change the angle of the jar to another direction (make sense?). Very unique and still inexpensive!!

They're all so beautiful! My favorites are the red, white and blue and the coffee drink with the whipped cream. Wow! They all look like high end candles that cost much more than what they do. So creative Sarah Jane! Awesome job!!
I have tried this and they ruin the candle. The wax they use in candles and melts have different properties for different purposes. The candle will tunnel because the flame isn't hot enough to fully melt the wax and the oil in the wax melts will burn and turn the middle of the candle brown.
Yeah, it's not really recommended to do that. a lot of times, it's a different type of wax, than jar wax and melts could also have more fragrance in them, since they aren't being burned. So, just because you can melt them and throw any ol' wick in there and call it a candle, doesn't mean you should. There's safety issues and like stated, it doesn't even burn nicely! Just spend the money to support a business (preferably small, handcrafted businesses) and get a candle that burns properly, with the correct wick, correct wax and the correct/safe amount of fragrance.

*Just a warning about repurposing candles (mostly the wicks).* It can be unsafe to put on old wick onto a candle of a different size. The wick might be too strong for the diameter of the new jar and overburn. (Meaning it might burn burn too hot and go through the candle 2x as fast, or worse, create alot of black soot on the edges and will heavily heat up the sides of the glass which can cause burns to yourself (or your furniture). It's cool for a personal project, but maybe don't give a bunch to people, as you are essentially giving them an untested candle.😅 Same point applies if are are mixing waxes from two different kinds of candles (you've now created an entirely new wax that may respond differently to the old wick.) Candles are heavily tested, but only to burn safely in the exact conditions they are sold in. (I.e X size wick burns perfectly in X size jar, with X kind of wax).
Thank you very much Brie .. That's excellent, valuable information !! .. B/c of your comment, I'm now continuing to throw away my half used candles lol !!

Awesome idea! I used to make candles and bought the Gulfwax blocks which were mega expensive. Never thought about using these big candles! Another idea for colored candles is to use crayons. Most crayon colors only take one crayon to color it, but to get a really red candle, you may need two crayons. And Crayola seems to do best, but if you have a box of 64 crayons, that's a lot of colors and you can mix them. I used to love making the layered ones with different colors. I also used essential oils to make scented candles. Due to my horrendous allergies, I would never do that again, but at the time, it seemed like a good idea. I melted my wax in a double boiler. Great video!
I use a double boiler too, and love using crayons for color. I've found some really neat metallic, pearl, and sparkly crayons at Dollar Tree that worked great for color, especially if I just used that colored wax with added very fine glitter as a dip for the outside layer. Another tip for using wooden craft sticks to center the wicks is to drill a small hole in them to thread the wick through. A Dremel tool is ideal for this.

I would do this to vintage tea cups. Makes it a unique gift
Vintage tea cups can explode if made into candles
Love these ideas especially the red white and blue for the Fourth of July!!!
Lady, you are no doubt the CANDLE Queen!... you are THE BEST!
In love with your Starbucks candle. Such a brilliant idea. Thank you ☺️
This is by far one of the BEST videos I have seen!
I absolutely love the coffee cup candles. These hacks are amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Now she has great ideas some of the best I’ve see you go girl!!!🙌🏽
Absolutely love your candle DIYs!! I want to make everything into a candle now 😊 The holiday ones are so fun and great for hostess gifts too!
Thank you for the awesome tips, can't wait for them to open this morning to head over to pick up candles and do a couple of your suggestions.
So creative and inspiring. I'm not very CRAFTY, but I may give this a try. I especially loved the Starbucks candle. Thank you for another wonderful video.
The Starbucks candle was so cool!! They were all interesting but that one took the cake!!!! Super cool!!!!
Too hard to choose a favorite, each of them were super cute! Love the coffee with whipped cream candle, and the little pumpkin ones from a previous video were so pretty! Oh, I can't forget the butterfly decals! Beautiful!
For the first time ever, I can't wait to go to Dollar Tree.
Oh my gosh - thanks Sara Jane - these were all so so beautiful!! I think I’m going to try and add citronella scented essential oil and make some red, white & blue candle gifts!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I am in LOVE with that coffee candle! Super cute and creative!
I've been doing this for years and save a fortune, I use the votive candles, wax melts of any scent and make the three wick candles that run anywhere from $3.00- on up! I do like the stickers on the tall candles because you usually can only find the religious ones that have decorations. I live in tornado alley and we always have a big supply in case the power goes off.
Totally gonna recreate my fresh balsam candle instead of buying a new one, they're expensive after all
These all turned out great! I used to make candles with my mom when I was little - good memories!
I love your Dollar Tree! Wish ours was as well stocked and visually appealing!
Wonderful , just wonderful 🌿🌺 very creative , great hacks 🌿🌺💛😊 love all the new colours
OMG!!! For me this is one of the most aha DIY ideas I’ve seen in a while. I know it’s really basic however, My mind is blown that I did not think of this!🤯 Thank you for sharing this!!🥰👍🏾
When I was the Worship lead at my church in charge of decorating, these candles were my all time favorites
Great candles Sara Jane! I can't wait to make the coffee one and the red, white, and blue one!☕🥰
The coffee one was awesome
Good job
I love these! But I was wondering what you do with tall glass jars after you take wax out of them. What ideas do you have for those? Thank you.
I wondered the same thing!
I started buying these candles years ago for emergency use during storms and they last for days.. I still don't know what to do with them except to add to my recycling bin.
Vases for flowers. Cut herb storage in fridge.
You can root plant cutting s or even buy replacement wax candles that fit those perfectly
@@Freedom77761 thanks so much! Great idea to root plants!
I loooove the foamy coffee. That is so adorable!
I usually don't get many ideas from videos like this but your ideas were really great and very versatile! I wasn't looking for candle ideas but definitely would love to try some of these. The little pumpkin and jack-o'-lanterns we're my favorite. The latte ones were also really clever
My favorite was making whipped cream for the coffee candle that was super
This video could not have come at the perfect time
I am rebuilding my candle making kit/collection and just purchased supplies yesterday from Amazon and Micheals. The candle making supplies were on clearance. Thanks for the ideas. 😀
These are all great ideas. Would love to see what you do with the tall glass jars
I was wondering also! 😀
Id love to see more ideas. Crazy how i never thought of this. Cute to give too, friends and family.
I love all your videos and always want to see more🙂 I'd love to see a video on a way to re-use the long glass candle jars after you pour the wax out.
I'd love it, too! 😁
Genius! You are soooo creative! It definitely beats paying full price for modern decorations!!! I'm so glad I found your channel!
It's cool for a personal project, but maybe don't give a bunch to people, as you are essentially giving them an untested candle.😅 Same point applies if are are mixing waxes from two different kinds of candles (you've now created an entirely new wax that may respond differently to the old wick.)
Candles are heavily tested, but only to burn safely in the exact conditions they are sold in. (I.e X size wick burns perfectly in X size jar, with X kind of wax).
Thank you very much Brie .. That's excellent, valuable information !! .. B/c of your comment, I'm now continuing to throw away my half used candles lol !!
Then how are “candle kits” able to be sold? Because they legit tell you that you can use any container with those.
@@marli8907 it's possible that the type of wick is not very big or maybe doesn't burn as hot/bright. So since thery burn low they're most compatible with tons of different jars in a range of sizes from small to big
@@marli8907 Have you researched that? If there's no warning label there should be!!
No offense intended (researched) Just curious...The law suits must be backed up for yrs in the courts! Ugh TY for getting the info out there!!!
@@Katt_Geo Dont waste your candles due to her comment. What she says is not true.
On the red white and blue candle you could put some star stickers scattered around on the outside. All of the ideas are so cute.
Tip for candle making.... Never use a container that has a top that is smaller than the base. They rarely burn correctly 😊
Oh my goodness, you did an AMAZING job to those coffee latte candles! Wow 😍
WOW 2 years later. loved the video great ideas. Thank you!
Wonderful candle ideas Sara Jane! The Starbucks candle was everything. Thank you so much for sharing these. Blessings - Judith 🎭
The little Starbucks one is adorable! Great job!
AWSOME! You did such a great job designing your Candles! I loved the Starbuck Candle and gee the 4th of July Candle was really cool too! Thanks for all the great ideas we sure appreciate the time and effort you put into your Videos for us Sara.
Been saving heat proof containers so I can do some of these.. My favorite. Scents are Cashmere, Cucumber. Pomegranate & orange. Nothing vanilla or Christmas spice scent. Also peach and lemon smell good.. Some of the spice scents (rosemary, & Tyne). Work for a relaxing scent.
I absolutely love this! I now know of some ideas I can do for gifts! Thank you so much for sharing this! Also thank you for the heat disclaimer! I love the butterfly decals they are beautiful! I love butterflies! Thanks so much for sharing! Blessings
I love the candles!! I can't wait to try making some. Thank you for sharing!
I'm so excited to try these!! Thank you so much for the how too and Dollar Tree videos!! It is my favorite store and my fiance makes fun of me but I don't care bc I love stuff like this!! 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
So many great candles ideas!! I love them.all but the Starbucks was probably my favorite!! The whip cream & shaved chocolate on top was the perfect touch!! You are so crafty with so many wonderful ideas!!
This is my favorite thing to do. I buy the candles and decals all year and use the clings as well to make theme candles. Great idea on the coffee theme candles.
Where do you find the window clings
I was wondering a gift to give a friend who has everything and I think this is perfect!!! You can never have enough candles 🕯 and its a personal touch.
This is so inspirational for someone who loves to give personal homemade gifts. I can not wait to try the 4th of July inspired one. Thank you for sharing 👏👏👏
That's actually amazing...I'm so not crafty but I feel like I could do this !!
Wow! I love these! My daughter just moved to her first house. These will be a perfect thing to do together and help decorate her home to her specific taste! Thanks!
Love all your ideas. I'm glad you showed the warning label, something I will now look for.
Thank you so much! I actually have been trying to come up with a nice wedding gift idea for a couple I know getting married next month & I believe what you showed us is actually very elegant to give as a wedding present. Also with the holidays coming up this is giving me even more ideas for holiday presents! ❤️🥀
@ChicOnTheCheap you are such a treasure! So glad I found you!
I love your candles 🕯 You inspired me to make some but it took me forever to melt the $tree pillars. So I bought some soy wax and use your videos for inspiration.
New subscriber, thank you for the candle hacks. I'm just starting to create candles and your video gives me some great ideas.
Beautiful, wonderful suggestions! You probably already know this, but be sure if you're using copyrighted labels, that you don't sell them to anyone. Just use and enjoy for yourself.
Love your videos! I love these candles too...a good suggestion is to always be sure the wick is in the center of the candles or they won't burn evenly.
