@@MDFishTanks my fish shelf system is 84" x 84" x 26" I have all my tools stored and organized under the bottom shelf... I still use my fingernail to pinch/prune plants because my nails are already in the tank when I see what needs trimming.😁

Great video! If you make another paludarium consider adding some springtails and isopods! It'll make the tank bioactive and bring it to life. The springtails and isopods will eat mold and fungus and decaying stuff. If you try it, I would recommend white springtails and some beautiful isopod like the clown, zebra, high yellow etc.

We got our aquarium from a friend that didn't want his anymore. He had shrimp and snails. After adding some fish, I must say, that I get more entertained by the shrimp. it's quiet nice to look at them doing their own thing.
I was at the pet store today and they had a little Timmy in there and I thought mmm, I need him in my aquarium until I saw the price tag, $2,500.00. Little Timmy is still at the pet store.
My grandad and great uncle had a special way of clipping and sharpening there thumbnails for pinching cuttings from plant shows and botanical gardens after the war when they where re making the gardens after the wives had to grow veg while they where at war ! Just had some great memories 👍

Speaking from personal experience you can definitely keep betta fish in big tanks. I've currently got a tri-colour dumbo betta in my 3 foot, 260 litre community tank and he's absolutely thriving. He swims around the whole tank and I couldn't imagine keeping him in a smaller one. It's planted and contains bogwood so plenty of resting places if needed.
I'm currently thinking about moving one of my bettas into my next 40B/166L tank I'm planning to move out the corydoras that were only supposed to be in his tank temporarily. Something I saw recently, it may have been on this channel, is those decorative betta leaves all the way up one side of the tank so that a betta can rest wherever in the big tank they had it in.

Good to see you have good success with your shrimp MD! Akadama is good for simple caridina like crystal or tiger shrimp for instance but it's not so great for high-end caridina because its pH is higher than 6. That's why not many breeders use it.
@@MDFishTanks Yes I had a very good result to breed crystal reds on Akadama before! It's Mark's favorite soil and he even uses it for breeding high end caridina.

Some ferns do die off seasonally, especially those collected in nature from local (northern) woodlands. Tropical ferns may slow their growth seasonally but they don’t go completely dormant. All it takes to start moss is a couple miniscule spores and... TAA DAAA moss!

mixing colours at first comes with wild random colors. But eventually down the line as they keep breeding they'll become brown or see through. At least based on my internet searches

I put five varieties of shrimps into a "Skittles tank" (as you called yours) just to see what would happen. The Crystal Reds and the Crystal blacks made babies that looked just like the adults, but one or two of my other shrimps (Red cherry, blue dream, and golden yellowback) produced a bunch of babies I would refer to as ghost shrimps. I am not even a little unhappy, but I am a bit surprised to see such pretty shrimps revert to their more natural state of coloration so quickly. I think they are pretty too. Though they are still small, I can see some are developing small spots and patterns. I wonder what they will look like in another couple of generations.
MD, if you keep the different colors of shrimp in the same tank they will begin to breed back to the wild coloration of brown, Tiger type pattern on the tails. I learned this on my first shrimp tank a few years back, just an FYI.
My tanks are the opposite! I can rarely grow stems and floaters but everything else grow well. Love your tanks as always though. I just got a new 227L/60gal tank I'm going to scape and definitely looking for inspiration from your vids :)
For your shrimp feed bacter ae AND shrimp baby and shrimpfit. These 3 things have made my shrimp tanks go crazy Constant babies. And I only fee them these 1 a week each a day apart. And it's amazing the shrimp really really do love these. I feed it in all 4 of my tanks.
I have had good success with the Zoo Med Hydroballs on top of UGF. The kitty litter sadly decomposed too quickly. It's great for Japanese wabi-sabi, not so great for UGF

I love the drift wood sticking out of the first tank! I realized that i had a problem recently in one of my tanks with drift wood sticking out of the water like this. It is actually starting to rot right in the area above the water where the wood is still moist but not in the water itself. I also have another problem with the driftwood sticking out for the lack of lids I can place on the tank to prevent fish from jumping out. Its to late for the rot since it has started but any solution to the prevent wood from rotting in the first place as well as any ideas for lids?
MD, we’re getting our first aquascape currently, and I haven’t been able to find how long, or how to create beneficial bacteria. We have a tank and plants so far. Want to do shrimp, pea puffer, and snails. TIA!!

I've had a ton of trouble with otocinclus catfish I dont understand why they always die. They look like there eating the algae but all have died within week or so of getting them. They end up going to the substrate and curling up and dieing. And nothing I've tried has stopped it.
How do you keep planaria out of your shrimp tank? I don’t feed the tank and let the shrimp feed on the algae that has accumulated on the rocks. I’ve started over 2x and still have the same issue. PLEASE HELP!
Nice video again! Indeed a great shrimp tank!! I am planning to make a DIY shrimp tank this week with IKEA glass and start shaping it soon after. I will have an extra canister filter but I plan to also use another internal filter filled with 'dirty' filter floss from my other canister filter so speed up the cycling. Does that make sence?
Yes the dirty cycled filter will work, or you can set up a new clean filter, then squeeze out the dirty filter water into the new tank and let it spread into the new tank and work it’s way into the new filter as well.
My water is way too hard and it is hard to get it softer with standard practices so shrimp tanks in Minnesota is not that common. I wish they were because they are so cool.
how important is co2 injection? because many people say it is a priority but your tanks look so beautiful without it and i’ve been debating about investing in it, would love to hear your professional thoughts.

Big tanks are great if they are heavily planted, shouldn’t be a big open space.

How are your neocaridina shrimp offspring maintaining color in the mixed tank? I was told that mixing colors usually ends up with brown or grays.

And that shrimp tank is doing really good. I have 8 berried shrimp and just had 3 others give birth with in the last few days.

You should feed your shrimp canned green beans. It's a cheap food and extremely beneficial for them

I love the drift wood sticking out of the first tank! I realized that i had a problem recently in one of my tanks with drift wood sticking out of the water like this. It is actually starting to rot right in the area above the water where the wood is still moist but not in the water itself. I also have another problem with the driftwood sticking out for the lack of lids I can place on the tank to prevent fish from jumping out. Its to late for the rot since it has started but any solution to the prevent wood from rotting in the first place as well as any ideas for lids?

MD, we’re getting our first aquascape currently, and I haven’t been able to find how long, or how to create beneficial bacteria. We have a tank and plants so far. Want to do shrimp, pea puffer, and snails. TIA!!
You can buy it, API and fluval both sell beneficial bacteria. The pea puffers should enjoy the shrimp and snails as a tasty snack in a few minutes 😁
I also find ferns seem to die off and regrow in the fall. No idea why!
What filter are you using? Does it suck up shrimp?

I've had a ton of trouble with otocinclus catfish I dont understand why they always die. They look like there eating the algae but all have died within week or so of getting them. They end up going to the substrate and curling up and dieing. And nothing I've tried has stopped it.

How do you keep planaria out of your shrimp tank? I don’t feed the tank and let the shrimp feed on the algae that has accumulated on the rocks. I’ve started over 2x and still have the same issue. PLEASE HELP!

I am planning to make a DIY shrimp tank this week with IKEA glass and start shaping it soon after. I will have an extra canister filter but I plan to also use another internal filter filled with 'dirty' filter floss from my other canister filter so speed up the cycling. Does that make sence?
Yes the dirty cycled filter will work, or you can set up a new clean filter, then squeeze out the dirty filter water into the new tank and let it spread into the new tank and work it’s way into the new filter as well.
My water is way too hard and it is hard to get it softer with standard practices so shrimp tanks in Minnesota is not that common. I wish they were because they are so cool.
