Hello, I finally finished this sketchbook (and quicker than usual), so here it is... my sketchbook tour. This sketchbook is the Pocket Hardcover Watercolor Sketchbook by Moleskine. I used gouache in most of the paintings and occasionally used watercolor when I needed to mix it up. For the most part I ended up filling this sketchbook with Plein air paintings as well as my book cover illustration designs. Let me know what you think in the comment section. Also, If you like any of these paintings, I more than likely have a video on it.

My goodness those are gorgeous! Even the ones you don't like I do, they have textures and styles that I enjoy in them. Like the rushed one is awesome if you are looking at it in the style it represents. To me it is simple maybe lazy if you want to call it that but that is the beauty of it. Those simple blue skies with all those autumn colors popping out of it, it is good!! I wish I had someone like you around he with me to plein air with I think it wold be so fun. That and I could learn a lot form you also, lol. I guess most artist think they are not that great and everyone else is better than you 🤣. That is what I fight in my thoughts all the time. Great contnent.
Thanks. It’s inspirational.
Thanks so much, Gwen!
Absolutely love the book covers! You've done a great job growing as an artist. :)
Thank you so much, Keke!
You should video your book cover art when you do them they are great love the boxer the best thanks for sharing buddy
Thanks man! I honestly enjoy making the book covers so much that i wouldn’t want to ruin the fun by making myself film it. maybe one day. :)
Loved it! Always surprised what you like and don't....I tend to think it's all 😊👍 😊. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Artists always tend to be their own worst critics. I really appreciate your kind words.
Awesome job! Thanks for sharing and walking us through your process, including what you deem "fails"
Thank YOU for sticking around. I really appreciate it!
@@cdsketch Thank you for sharing your art! Keep it up!
They all look great 😊
Congratulations on your adventure looks like it is going to take off.
Thanks so much, Terry!
Loved every minute of watching this. Such beautiful paintings even the ones you didn’t like so much. Excellent paintings of people too! Hope you are proud of your sketchbook you should be.
thank you so very much for the kind words :)
I loved your sketchbook tour! Thanks for sharing it. My favorites were the book covers, but you had so many beautiful landscapes as well. I like your use of a vibrant blue in the shadows
Thanks Megan! The book covers are always fun to put together.
Some of you style reminds me of James gurney. I love the police car and the portrait sketch for the competition
Thanks so much! JG was my first real introduction to painting so I’m still trying to find my own style. :)
@@cdsketch you're style is definitely shining through!
Thank you! 🙏🏾
I like your color choices. I think some of what you consider failures are interesting abstracts. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much! Yea, I think the unsuccessful paintings are still ideas I like just poor executions.
I really like all your portraits!! Who is the boxer?
Why book covers? I mean, how did you get the idea, why are you interested in it…. is it something you were assigned in school, or something you might pursue as a career, etc?? Do you pick out a book titles and then imagine/design covers for them…. or do you write stories and design covers for them?
Thank you! that is a Muay Thai fighter that I actually don't know the name of. And I've been interested in book covers since I found out about Robert Mcginnis, Laurence Herndon and other artists of the 'Pulp' era. Sometimes the painting comes after the story idea but sometimes it happens vice versa.
Super inspiring! Thank you for sharing your art!
Really gorgeous!!!!!
Thank you!!!
Very nice art, also very concise and well explained tour. I enjoyed your video very much. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! I might have another sketchbook tour coming in the not so distant future :)

Love your videos and style man. Your videos inspire me to paint! Every painting you seem to dislike I think wow to, every painting your proud of I say wow to. Please keep up I love your small channel it's doing big things for me! Thank you❤
Thanks so much! I really appreciate your kind words! :)
I liked your sketchbook. Thought some of the paintings were very James Gurney like. I would not try to paint the power lines, use a pencil instead, remember you are painting very small. The more detail, the bigger the sketchbook.
Thank you! and you're absolutely right, it definitely would serve these small paintings better to have smaller details.
Nice work. Very inspiring - thank you for sharing.
Thanks Mary! i’m glad you stopped by.
Wow I love your sketchbook. I do WC but the jelly gouche really fascinates me. I don't have any YET.😂 Yoy are very talented! When I saw your spaghetti western guy I went- I've seen that guy before!! Your portrait paintings are fabulous I just loved all your pages. Thanks for sharing. I'm gonna sub to you so I can see more of your work. Have a blessed day!♥️
Thank you so much, Susan! You can pick up a cheap set for around $25 and if your used to watercolor, it shouldn't be too bad. I'm glad to hear that, I kinda thought that no one watched spaghetti westerns anymore haha. You have a blessed one as well :)
Fantastic work! Thank you for sharing! 💜💜💜
Wonderful shadows throughout. Hard to pick a favorite. I will now break out new gouache after seeing the possibilities. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you!! keep me updated on how your gouache journey goes :)
While your landscape paintings are amazing, your portraiture paintings are absolutely flippin awesome! You have definitely masterd the medium of gouache. Personally I would like to see you paintings in a slightly bigger format - an A5 size instead of an A6, but hey, it's not me that's painting them ! Great video mate, love the art.
Thank you so much!! I used to paint on A5 and bigger but it just felt like too much, maybe i’ll go back sometime. :)
So inspiring art pieces 💞
Amazing work! You're a very talented artist
Thank you, Iona! :)
love the moleskine watercolor notebooks
thanks for sharing your art!
yeah, moleskine makes some great sketchbooks. Thanks!
😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩
:)
I don't know where my comment went but I had to ask, are you still selling prints of the traffic cone sketch? I just started binging your videos in the background while I do stuff with my baby lol and I iust love this sketch so much! All the colors are so beautiful and mesh well together! I'm new to painting and don't have much time at night to paint after my baby sleeps so I love watching these types of videos when I can during the day. Hope improve little by little with time.
I haven’t sold prints in a little while. but that was a really fun one to paint. As long as you keep going and know what needs to get better, i think you’ll improve in no time. God Bless :)
Loved your sketches! I want to try Moleskin now lol . I’m still working my way thru sketchbooks by Stillman and birn and Strathmore. But we can never have too many right? 😅
Thank you! I’d recommend that sketchbook to anyone using gouache or watercolor, it’s really nice. And absolutely, as long as it makes you happy, you can never have enough sketchbooks lol :) I always have at least two i’m working in.
Also you really don't like the S&B Beta? Those are my favorite for gouache! With watercolor not so much though 💀
I just didn’t like how “slippy” the pages were. To me it kind of felt like it was meant for oils.
@cd sketch slippy? You mean like smooth? I know the beta has a bit of texture but the zeta is smooth. 🤔
@@SereneStudio maybe i’m talking about the wrong sketchbook, one of them had smooth paper that i’m not a huge fan of. I don’t even remember which one I said in the video at this point lol.
@cd sketch lmao I get it not the point of the video 😆 I was just curious !
you forgot the autors name and any kind of bookcompany ;) like a lot of the pieces
You’re so right, maybe if I read more, I wouldn’t forget things like that lol. thanks :)
Whats the difference between gouache and watercolour?
Gouache is opaque, so you can paint over anything you want. Watercolor is pretty translucent so you usually have to leave some of the page blank.
Just gentle feedback….we don’t need to be this close to the page.
