Hey everyone, it's been a little while, how are you all?
I hadn't done a sketchbook tour in a while so I figured you might enjoy a tour of my 2020 Daily Doodle Diary, in which I attempted to draw every day for a year!
    It's messy, it's experimental, it's imperfect, and I had fun. I hope you'll enjoy it :)

This actually kinda helped me. A lot of times I’m so focused on improving that I forget to have fun and I’m a person who just can’t draw when I’m forcing myself. I’ll probably try something like this, also because I have troubles creating something just from me. Idk when it started to be like this, but It’s like my brain is dead and all I can do is to copy. I mean I can have some idea, but it’s just couple of things copied together. I just feel like I lost my ability to create stuff and I feel worn out because what I do most of the time is stressing about what I can’t do. This could be a good chance to finally get rid of my bounderies and insecurities

I feel the same...it makes me insecure to not at least copy an outline because I like portraits but I fear drawing out of proportion and the thought of not being happy with the result in the end paralyses me a lot...there is a lot of acceptance/ letting go that's required to be a true artist, not perfection. I was also not like this when I was younger and I personally think our culture and our society has been a huge factor in suppressing that. It's the reason we have so much depression because we're forced to put on a mask and pretend to have it all together pretty much all the time. We tell children to 'grow up' but they are the ones who know true wonder and imagination....we all had that once and I believe that if we release ourselves from expectations and fear of judgement we can find that boundless spirit once again :)

and what we gotta do i think is we have to boost our own confidence and security by looking back our progress, cuz when i look back at my old paintings i still always feel the energy of it

I randomly got back to this coment so I’ll update cause I think I got a lot better. I still don’t do very complex drawings and I only have the attention spam to draw things that take like max hour BUT I got back to coloring and that makes me super happy. Finally got bored of only just a pencil :) I also draw usually without references so I use my brain at least there. I still have troubles thinking of ideas but I have to say my art got genuinely a lot better then when I wrote this. I quite changed up my art style and I draw very quickly now which is a good thing considering my lack of attention spam

I thank you for this video because it made me realised how much I dreaded working on new projects. I'm studying architecture you see? and despite how much I love it, I have been feeling so lost lately. I couldn't bring myself to finish or hand in my last project because I hated it and I dreaded to work on it to the point where I started to doubt this was the right career for me. I would look at old drawings of crazy buildings I came up with as a child and I felt something missing from my work and I couldn't realise what it was and then your video made me realise I was missing the fun. I was missing that "I'm not doing things because I have to, but rather because I wanted to" like how you say you missed drawing for fun! I'm glad you ended up taking this challenge, and I'm super glad you ended up posting this video because thanks to it getting recommended to me, I now understand so much more about myself. Now I've been working on some project ideas and just having fun with them and I feel much less stressed out and like I love what I'm doing again! So really, I just want to say thank you for everything that you didn't even know you were doing, cuz somehow you helped me a lot.
Oh god I hope I didn't make many grammar mistakes. English is not my first language.

I often include little doodles or paintings in the daily journal I write in. I don't draw in it every day (though I do write in it everyday), but most of the art I do tends to be what's in my journal, because it is so low pressure; it's smaller and since it's my personal journal, I don't have to show it to anyone if I don't like it. I also have a little tarot journal where I try to do a single card reading everyday and draw the card with every reading.

What i loved most about seeing this journey is that how you kept returning to some ideas some days.
I draw and paint as a hobby and even then i usually feel really guilty when i repeat ideas that i actually enjoy because i feel like i should constantly be more creative. This was really encouraging, made me feel more validated for exploring some ideas as much as i'd like.
And i love how many times you went over the boundaries of the page. I struggle with that a lot too for some reason. As if i am not allowed to use the corners of my page or as if i don't own the next page. But your drawings, especially by the end, look really free and bold and i love the ideas and the artstyle so much!!
And one more thing: All artists have good and bad days when it comes to inspiration or drawing style and i thank you so much for showing all of it here. Another big pressure with most of my sketchbooks for me is that i feel like i should make it all look their best. And when it doesn't happen some days, it really puts me off of drawing for a long time. Seeing you lay it all out there was absolutely beautiful.
Thank you so much for this video! I'd love to see if you try it again for this year (of course it's understandable if you don't want to share it, making it for fun first and thinking of content later is something everyone deserves). I woke up today, watched your video first thing with a cup of coffee. Paused it after ten minutes to go to my local library to buy a small agenda to start my 2021 sketchbook.
Thank you for reminding me that I'm not what I draw, but that I just simply love to do it.
And damn, your English is good.... Je suis jalouse. 😉

    thank you for sharing, myriam:)
i appreciated being able to see the visible reality of an artist's intention and experience, as manifest in your daily doodle diary. it's encouraging to see how much can be accomplished realistically, as well as the reality of off days and quieter periods.
i loved the variety of images, styles and media portrayed and enjoyed seeing how a regular session unfolds multiple aspects of an experience.
with gratitude and all blessings forward in your art and life:)

Amazing "doodles". You really set your aim high with the quality you needed to achieve every day. It is true that learning a skill as complicated as drawing takes a lot of practise and time, more so with unique ideas. I just hope you can be more kind to yourself and accept that some days are not as easy as others. Really great work and original ideas. Just don't be so hard on yourself!

i am sorely tempted to try something like this, and i think i might, mainly because i'd like to build a daily drawing habit, even if i only draw something simple! i have admired your style of art (specifically the kind of surreal subject matter) for a while and i'm curious: is this a style that you've built over the course of your art journey, or is this the kind of thing you've always gravitated towards drawing (if that makes sense)? did you start out creating art with more "typical" subject matter, or have you always liked creating more surreal art, to put it another way.

I really love the fact that it's like a journal with the date written above. I think having to skip a page and leaving it blank is a very good motivator to keep going. I would find the blank pages very confronting, but I do really love your story and explanation. I love how you dare to show your weak side and 'bad' days. I have tried to draw everyday but then I didn't skip pages, this way it feels like the days were I didn't draw (about 1/3 of the time) just didn't exist, and had no purpose, meaning or contribution, they were just failed days.
But in your book they didn't at all look like failed days. You embraced them and even gave them a page in your journal. Like a day of rest, silence and especially emptyness and nothingness. It's hard for me to accept that those days are very necessary as well, to repair, rest rethink, do others things or just do nothing. But often they are filled with selfhatred and disappointment, but maybe that's something you can embrace as well.
This book made you look so open and human will all your flaws, strengths, insecurities and skills.
Thank you for showing your human side :) it helped me accept mine a bit more, and I think the same for a lot of others

What you do SO well and what I really is how much DEPTH your concepts convey. Theyre rich with meaning and emotion. The fantasy and imagination behind them are beautiful. As an urban sketcher, or someone who draws mainly from landscape photos, I draw whats there and that's what I'm used to: so seeing your concept work from imagination is super inspiring. Hope I can reach that imaginative level one day :)
