2020-21 SKETCHBOOK TOUR - Art Block Frustration, Sketches That Became Paintings
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 21 апр 2021
- Hi everyone, here's another sketchbook tour!
I just about managed to finish this one, and it contains a lot of doodles and messy unpolished sketches, as I used it to try and get myself out of an extended art block during 2020.
I wondered whether it was even worth me making a video of this one, as so much of it is probably ineligible to anyone but me, but since this is what my process genuinely looked like the last year or so, I thought it might be a valuable insight into my practice for anyone interested.
Enjoy!

#sketchbook tour
so refreshing that an art-tuber is honest about creative blocks, taking time off and getting frustrated with their efforts etc- I feel like so many art-tubers make it seem like they're always switched on, always inspired, always creating amazing art and always pleased with their "perfect" results. Not so with Myriam who always has the strength to be vulnerable and show us that it's totally normal to go through downward spirals. Love your work, love seeing your process - it makes me feel less alone when I'm having a horrible, frustrating, never-ending creative block
I agree. I also love this sketchbook. A lot of RUclipsrs show sketchbooks that look like perfect little portfolios. No ideas or scribbles or concepts, just finished painting after finished painting.
I love hearing the birds in the background of your videos
I love them so much T_T
Finally a sketchbook that doesn't look *WAY TOO* professional! It looks great, but it doesn't discourage people into thinking every good artist makes perfect sketches and almost as if the sketchbook itself is a finished piece.
Whenever I see another sketchbook tour they make me feel bad but also inspired because it makes me feel like I can never make such a beautifully calculated work of art, but also makes me want to work for it. This, however just makes me want to sketch but it doesn't discourage me because it looks like my sketches almost... except some of my sketches are therapeutic serial killer scribbles lol (not literally but some are just random strokes or nearly scary looking sketches that I would never show to another human or even a dog). This encourages people rather than discourages because it shoes that a sketchbook is not a calculated work of art, but is rather for study, drafting, and rough sketching, and we need that!! Great work!!
Haha, thanks Aidan! I did ponder whether to upload this sketchbook for a while, as so much of it is a little illegible to anyone other than me that I wasn't sure it would be an interesting video. But I thought it might be a valuable realistic look into the backstage goings on of my process and work. :) This is the kind of content I love from other artists, so I figured it might be of interest to some to see my side of things too. I'm very glad to hear that you enjoyed it and that it is motivating to you, thank you! And therapeutic serial killer scribbles is rather accurate for mine too I think XD
*kicks down door* I CAME AS SOON AS I HEARD!!!!!!! I love your stuff so much Myriam!!!☺️💗
Hahaha, your comment made my day, thank you Sofia!
@@myriamtillson Your welcome!!!☺️💗💗💗
I really appreciate how you show us the times where you are struggling with art and being creative, because that's what's real. Sometimes I have long periods of time where I just can't create, and it's nice to see that it's not just a me problem? It's very validating.
Thanks for uploading this video. My day was really unjoyful because I have really bad headache and this is just one really beautiful thing that lightens up my day, thanks for your beautiful art
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear it! I hope you are feeling better, and that the rest of your week will be as wonderful as that day was not. :) Thank you for your kindness!
good to see im not the only one who has pages of what looks like scribbles to other people but to use we can see the idea/painting ideas we has in those scribbles 😀
amazing to see your process. Love your work 😍🙌🙌🙌
the shreds concept would make an amazing piece
just found my new fav artist! :")))
I love watching your videos hun
Thank you Cindy!
I love seeing your ideas coming into bloom from your sketchbook to full paintings ~ very inspiring
Thank you Aysha :)
I think you have arrived at a healthy way of viewing our 'failures' - and for using sketchbooks to make mistakes, work through ideas that work and those that don't and embracing it all. There will always be times when things don't work, or don't turn out as we planned. It's great that you've felt you can share these too.
I'd love to see your ten year old drawings! 😁
I freaked out when I saw youd posted, I love your art and I love seeing your process
Aw, thank you so much!
Thank you for sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly with us. Creative frustration comes to us all and I love how you acknowledge it and work your way through. ❤️ Have to say I absolutely love that last set of sketches at 17:07 - something about the concept really resonates with me!
OMG your style is so awesome !! ♥
I have to say, your posts are becoming addictive. Thank you for the beautiful work and your wonderful insight.
Thank you very much for showing even the 'uglier or unfinished work' because I know as artists we have hundreds of these pages we don't show. The thoughts about running away from the mistake is something I think about all the time and comes a lot from that search for perfection that is nebulous and unfounded in reality. Seeing the process and your thoughts was great to see along with the more finished sketches too. The thought of waste of space or material is another thing I think about all the time, since there are limited ink in pens, color pencils get shorter, etc. Just got to remember that its the effort that counts and the attempt is all that's needed.
Love your sketchbook! 🖤🖤
I love relating to your sketches♥️
I'm so glad you do ^^
Hello miss myriam, because of what you say here and in your other sketchbook video I motivated myself into actually sketching... and am now turning that into a digital painting, which is something I haven't done in forever! Thanks so much for keeping it real. I love the concepts you come up with too.
I was just thinking, "I wonder if Myriam has a new sketchbook video up yet? I love her work" and then bam! I saw the notification. ♡
Haha, thank you Persephone ^^
Always so inspiring, your work makes me happy and awakens in me a desire to create, thank you Myriam you are incredible.
That is so wonderful to hear, thank you Alisson!
Many valuable thoughts. I thought it was kind of funny because I saw alot of my own process in this. One thing I've learned about sketching though is that sometimes they're enough. They don't always have to be turned into a painting to be "valid". They're also a valuable experience where pieces can be used later on. Sketching too much can also make you bored of the idea before you sit down to paint. Sometimes it's better to just sit down in front of the easel and paint. The creative process is a constant exploration where chance can be your best friend. Inspiring! 🥰
Always a joy to see you’ve posted.
Aw, thank you so much Samantha!
yeah!!! great video!! Is always fun to see your sketchbooks and where the ideas for your amazing paintings came from! Cheers!!!
Amazing sketchbook 🤩😍🤩😍 would love to see your 10 year old sketches 🥰🥰🥰🥰
You inspired me, I went and bought a sketchbook today with the goal of doing 1 pic per day 😊👍
I like the page with the faces/masks inside the persons torso.
Gaaaaaasp! Yes!!
Your art is fascinating, I love it... thank you for sharing... I enjoyed hearing about the pages in this great sketchbook. =)
Thank you very much Phoebe!
You’re welcome. =)
I always love looking at your art. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Rebecca!
i love your art style!!!
Thank you Likhita!
Lovely sketchbook tour 😊
Thank you Nadya ^^
@@myriamtillson you're welcome ☺
i like what you said about covering up "bad" work the failure feeling, it makes a lot of sense, i feel like i put a lot of energy into trying not to feel like i've failed by covering things up, i'll definitely try not to try so hard after hearing what you said.
ps. love all of your sketches.
i enjoy hearing about your difficulties with creating as I find it so relatable. I did have a lot of trouble seeing the lighter sketches against the white.
I came here to see your amazing concepts but honestly, your insight and discussion is so valuable! I especially liked that you touched upon the worth of creating something and how putting too much pressure on yourself to create something 'worthwhile' can really impact what you create.
Also, I think talking about mental health as creatives is something that I'm definitely going to include in future interviews, so thank you Myriam for being your awesome self and for the constant inspiration!
Have a great day!
Thank you Aaron! I was worried that particular part of the video would be too rambly and would go on a bit, but not only does voicing those things help me sort them out in my own head, but I feel like they are the types of lessons I learn with my job that can be valuable to share, so I'm glad they are resonating. :)
I hope you are well!
@@myriamtillson I'm very well thanks! Just keeping busy!
I think that such topics are an integral part of your process and it's great that you're so honest in sharing them with us!
I really appreciate the hard work and effort you put into creating these videos, alongside creating art, alongside your patreon! Your work ethic is phenomenal!
I hope you are keeping well and keep up the amazing work!
Good to hear that you are well!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your support :) It can be difficult to feel like I am doing enough when I work on my own so much, so it is super nice to feel like my efforts are being seen, thank you!
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay she add new video 💚🍃 i miss ya and your art miss myriam
Aw, thank you Yanis!
I love your ideas, and seeing how they start and where they end up is really interesting, thank you for sharing them :)
I love your style.
Thank you very much ^^
This motivated me to draw, thank you
Ah yay, I love to hear it! ^^
I discovered your channel a couple weeks ago and I’m in love with your style!
Ah thank you so much for sticking around!
❤❤❤❤ Hope you are doing well!
YAY LOVE UR VIDEOS SO DANG MUCH THIS JUST MADE MY DAY!!!!!!!
Ah, thank you so much!!
I would love to see the pages you ripped out, too! Would be such a cool to see them with your current art ☺️
I might film them at some point! Although they might actually be in my "old art" tours a few videos back on my channel already, I'll have to check :)
I love your sketchbook tours!
You're my favourite artist and every one of your videos has made my day a little better when I watched them, I still can't believe you replied to my comment before I told one of my friends like "can you believe it?" It was so nice of you.
Thanks for sharing your work with us
I hope you're doing well and taking care
(Ps thanks for captions, I'm writing this in my comments now to encourage it in general :) )
Thank you Krys! I do try to reply to comments when I can, especially when a video first goes live, I can't express just how grateful I am for all of you who show up and support my work by watching my videos :)
Thank you for your kind words ^^
(Regarding captions, I am sadly not able to write them myself in my RUclips videos, although I do try to have them in my Insta and tiktok videos as much as possible. Were you able to have captions in this video? If so, I'm super glad to hear that the automatic ones work, I would really like for my videos to be as accessible as possible. I hope that I will one day be able to hire someone to write them for me!)
@@myriamtillson aw ^.^ no problem, i appreciate your kindness and your care for your fans as well!
(that's fair :) i was able to have captions on and they were accurate at least like 99% I've seen some on other channels that don't even know what language the speaker is using or ones that disappear halfway through but yours are always good quality from what i recall. you're so considerate and i appreciate it so much, thanks again!)
Dope
new drinking game for us, take a shot every time Myriam says : "I plan to turn that into a painting" 😂😂😂 we'd be drunk. Thanks for making me laugh that hard
thanks for sharing keep it up
Thank you!
@@myriamtillson your welcome

Please do a comic. It would be amazing.
I really, really want too XD I have almost a whole world and script in my head already! It's a lot of work though, I have SO MUCH respect for comic artist...

Is it just me who gets really depressed when I have any sort of art block?
Hi, I love you you are so beautiful
Aw, thank you!
