Now my Switch is much lighter, but it doesn't turn on.
lmfao
Lol
HAHAHAHA
As long as it's plugged in you should be okay
The only comment that’s ever actually made me laugh
Thanks for the heads up about the cement under the battery.
I know right! Broke an old credit card trying to get the battery out!
Just want to give a heads up this a great video step by step process. I just changed mine using this video. ONE THING I DO WANT TO POINT OUT IS. GETTING THE ACTUAL BATTERY OUT IS A LOT HARDER THAN YOU THINK. YOU CANT JUST “gently” take it out. it’s practically super glued on there. It took me about 30+ mins just trying to safely pry the battery off. Also LOTS OF SCREWS be very careful and don’t mix them! it’s a lot easier if you leave them separate in order you take them out so you can work backwards.
Getting battery out is a fkin joke tbh...
Might wanna use a heat gun to make it super easy
True
Any tips getting the battery out?
I came here losing my mind thinking I was going to break the thing. This woman must have the strength of The Incredible Hulk to "gently" pull out the battery. It practically takes the jaws of life!
One does not simply "gentle pry the battery up and out of it's well"
It's better to start gently prying up the old battery from wired side, as there's a sloped area underneath there to better fit an improvised non conducting pry tool to remove the battery. Don't bend or rupture the battery.
Excellent analysis. Once I pried from this side the battery was much easier to remove. Thank you!
1:31 wait wait wait! How do you put it back together? 😮 😭
I guess just reverse the steps
Someone made a device without annoyingly gluing the battery in place? I can't believe it!
Try putting adhesive strips from iPhone it should work, just cut it
I don’t think that was a complaint there buddy..
I find it more interesting that you need a spudger to remove a battery that is not glued in place.
It actually is glued in place, I suspect the battery was already removed once before they shot this video so the glue was no longer there. If you watch other videos (like JerryRigEverything) you will see that the battery is in fact glued down and you can risk damaging it by attempting to remove it
They opened it up before. Look at all the fingerprints on the metal plate. I don`t think this was shipped from the factory like that.
Fixed Title: How to remove the battery from your switch.
Use a heat gun or hair dryer on the battery to heat up the glue under the battery. Than start sliding plastic pry opening tool under battery. Apply more heat and slide pry tool more. Repeat until battery is out.
I mean, if you're the type of person that's willing to open up your own electronics, chances are you can figure out from thr disassembly how to do the reassembly.
Litterally just need to reapply thermal paste and stick the new battery in there and ur done.
@Big Shworm furthermore it’s viscus thermal paste, not normal thermal paste.
Nah, I appreciate the fact she kept it short and sweet rather than go over redundant information (just put the video in reverse lol)
But to your point, the video title is inaccurate lol
WARNING: This is a good video, BUT there is adhesive under the existing battery and it makes it hard to take off, I looked around a few videos and found that most people are going in from the bottom with a spudger (Don't apply too much pressure) and also using a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive. Be careful I was using medium heat as to not overheat the battery because I think if you put it on high for too long it could rupture the battery. Also when they tell you take off the 5 screws for that silver plate there are 6 screws at least on mine there was so make sure they are all off before you lift the plate.
how do you heat up the adhesive when it's under the battery?
@@2crazed4u I used low heat over the battery and just was patient. Don't use high heat so you dont risk inflating the battery. If you notice the battery puffs up stop right away.
@@MrStrudleboy i have the plastic shovel from the kit and just shoved it in at the bottom and it came off without damaging it 😆
@@2crazed4u mine wasnt coming off, I snapped the shovel very easy
@@MrStrudleboy 💀
wow that was unexpectedly simple. nice one Nintendo
That's Japanese engineering for you.
Short. Sweet. Simple. Repairable & Reliable.
yeah the Switch is highly modular and is the easiest console handheld to repair
Wii U only had 1 screw for the battery..
@@icebroswii.8162 yeah but the wiiu isn't really built like the switch.
@@icebroswii.8162 The Wii-U doesn't count as a console in my eyes.
God that thing was terrible.
Now can you please make a video on how to replace all the screws I lost when I tried this.
Amazon is your friend my dude
@@brotothewilliams9890 Ebay is even more so.
It's refreshing to see a battery replacement video under 2 minutes.
Lmao because they didnt actually do the replacement bit.
A "uncomplete" tutorial, that is.
the batteries are glued in they dont come out with a plastic card. We used a flat head screw driver and pried it out. Thanks for the video. it was very helpful
im still stuggling
I just did the battery replacement. Use a hair dryer to soften the glue before attempting to pry it out. It's not hot enough to damage the electronics. Once you loosen one side, direct the hot air underneath that side to soften the rest of the glue under the battery.
Blow dryer and two gift cards
I understand that this was made to be short, but there are a lot of steps in the guide that aren't represented here. Specifically the thermal paste bit in particular and the adhesive guidance for the battery.
My thoughts exactly, the video looks very professional and sleek but at the cost of not providing the most valuable information for people that are actually attempting this repair. 1) the battery does NOT come out as easily as they make it look, and 2) I clicked on this video specifically for a hint on dealing with the thermal paste that you will upset following these steps.
The thermale paste step is indeed represented in but only in their describstion under ther kit.
1) the steel plate has 6 screws.
2) do we need to replace the felt on top of battery?
3) do we need to replace the adhesive sticker under battery?
for 2 and 3 probably not but its better if you do
Thanks, I opened my switch some days ago and I was going mad right now because I had one screw that I didn't remembered where was it from.
Bought your kit and replaced ours. We had more screws in our metal shield, and you need to slide the card under where the wires go in to cut through the double back tape. We used a credit card. I also removed the OE heat paste and used some Arctic Silver. Hopefully that helps keep it cooler. The OE stuff was dried out. Good kit though!
You forgot to tell how to PLUG the new battery in! I'm having problem getting the new battery plugged in.
The tiny Phillips head screws are a pain to get out. I had to use a vice grip, strong screwdriver and large amount of pressure on the screw, and that slightly shredded the screwheads.
Also, my Switch had a 6th screw in the bottom right at 1:05, where the hole is on the Switch in the video.
Thank you ifixit for not telling me to remove a screw and bending my metal housing.
Thank you for the great tutorial video on how to doing this. Next I'm going to have to look up on where to buy the battery.
It's right in their shop. Otherwise cheaper from china with aliexpress or so but less security of getting the real thing. Mine works fine though
I don't know if anyone else did this, but I accidentally stripped two of the SEVEN (not five) screws when attempting to remove the metal plate. It's ok, don't panic. As long as you get most of the screws out, you can bend the metal plate until it snaps and leave the stubborn screws inside. This isn't ideal, of course, so try to be careful, but you really don't need all of those screws. As long as you remove the plate, you can bend it back later. It is very malleable metal. Be careful to avoid damaging components underneath when prying it up though.
I like how they neglected to mention that the battery is glued down. They also didnt show how to actually replace the battery. I also like how the girl is the one talking but some guy is the one doing the disassembly.
Carlo Larose Didn’t mention adding fresh Thermal Paste to the Switch either
Wow thanks for showing how to remove it now show me how to plug the red and black cord back in UK like a replacement
I can't wait for the sequel to learn how to put one back in.
Ok good vid but id like for you to show you guys putting the battery back in (the new one) reccamendations on which ones you should and what's compatible itd make things alot easier
That is 1000x easier than I thought it would be! Good job nintendo!
removing the battery wasnt that easy.. BUT i went through it!! thank you for the tips!!
For the first time, no the battery will not come out that easy. It has an adhesive sticky pad to secure it down. I just replaced my brother’s battery. This is an awesome tutorial and I also use the ifixit tool kit.
Remember the days when you could just unscrew/remove a panel and just take the battery out. Nowadays, companies make things so complicated.
Can I replace the Nintendo Battery for a high capacity one? Those two hours of gameplay is a real drag. and portable batteries are heavy.
Crazy isn't it how only that much of time you can use the system? That's really good idea what you have there. Me I just lug around every charger I need to keep gaming on, but I'll look into that to.
Im allso interested In this
Powerbank anyone, just make sure you use a Nintendo cable to connect to the switch
battery is already massive... needs more efficient Tigera X1 one
clearly prepped for vid lol - no adhesive struggle
THANKS
I made it to the battery but couldn't figure out why it was stuck, thanks that's all I need so the video was perfect for me!
How do you put it back though
I love it, thanks!! Now my nintendo switch is soo much lighter without the battery!!
You make it look SO simple! Thank you!
It really is simple lol literally😂
despite the amount of screws, I agree.
Easiest way to remove the battery: Slowly pry from the battery cable side and periodically spray in electrical contact cleaner (or any suitable solvent, alcohol might do)
Remember DS, GameBoy and literally every other device besides Apple where you can replace the battery without taking the fucking device apart?
0:05 YOU %£*!#~" HOW DID YOU KNOW 🤣
IDK how they got the battery to slide out that easy, mine seems to be gorilla glued on FFS
Nintendo said the battery will last for couple of years and it won't work like when it was new so they planned to make it replaceable
"Follow this guide to replace the battery in a Nintendo Switch gaming console.
The battery is heavily glued in and will require adhesive remover to make replacement possible.
Before disassembling your device, discharge the battery below 25%. The battery can catch fire and/or explode if accidentally punctured, but the chances of that happening are much lower if discharged.
If your battery is swollen, do not heat your Switch. Use a dropper, or syringe, to inject isopropyl alcohol (90+%) underneath the battery to weaken the adhesive. Swollen batteries can be dangerous, so wear eye protection and exercise due caution if attempting removal yourself. Take it to a professional if you’re not sure how to proceed."
Final Fantasy Seven?
@@GarchompPlay lol
this will be helpful when I go to replace a swollen battery with the new one along with the metal shield and a back plate
You guys are frickin awesome! I'm just amazed that Nintendo made a battery swap so simple. I don't even have to break out my heat gun.
All I got was a Nintendo Switch Light at the end D:
One if my screws hasnt budged and i messed with it for an hour. What should I do?
Try turning it counterclockwise.
So I changed the battery with one ordered from you guys. It still drains really fast like before I changed it. Not sure what to do
Since my time with electronics and having to open them, there's always been at least one pain in the ass, EZ-Strip screw. The Switch had two.
A simple tutorial Isn't always a good one. If someone's new to this and they struggle doing something that was described as "simple"
it may deter them from ever attempting another repair again.
As others are pointing out/sharing their experiences in the comments. They may struggle getting the battery out and putting it back together.
Me attempting this I've noticed that sometimes removing the battery is easy, other times, It makes me WISH it was made by Samsung
I have 2 switches (1 dead). Battery came out easily with one (not as easy as no glue like yours) but the other, I ruined 2 cards and bent a spudger trying to get it out.
To put it into perspective, I've never struggled getting a Samsung phone battery out.
Oh and yes, I used heat for the second one, didn't need it for the first
Love how straight to the point this video is!!!
Thanks!!
Way to get to the point. I thank the Lord there are people like you out there!
Short and simple. Thanks!
When she pulled the battery with a card I just laugh
Why?
@@helixomnibus you really asking why?
Mad glue wtf Nintendo
Curious do you know how much charging would it take to noticeably degrade the Switch's battery? I usually charge it after every play time and take it off the changer right as it reaches 100% (sometimes overnight if I fall asleep before then).
It helps to take it off the charger at 80%, keeping the battery hovering around 50% is the best. But 80-90 is way less strain than 100% every time. As for how much time it’ll take, it depends. It’s probably good for at least 500 charge cycles, when you get close to 1000 then you’ll notice major battery degradation, probably
The metal plate has 6 screws actually, but your video is of a previously opened unit with the 6th screw missing. Also the battery is glued and does NOT come off that easily. It needs Isoprol alchohol to remove it properly.
What about the adhesive and actually placing the battery from this kit in the slot?
Quick and simple! Thank you.
You have many cute names for your tools
removing the battery wasn't terrible, but that's in comparison to having stripped the screw at the very first step that's closest to the power button and trying unsuccessfully for 2 hours to get it unscrewed 😰 I figured I could twist the lid out of the way to access the inner metal plate, but I had to unscrew the side metal plate where the controller is slid into 💀 then I was able to twist the lid back to position after I was done. Now that corner is quite rough, but it's doable!
Can i replace the original Switch battery with the better one that came out last year? The one that lasts twice as long?
So I hadn't used my Switch in months. It's been sitting in the dock the entire time. Since I don't use it hardly anymore, I was preparing to sell it. Started unconnecting everything from my TV, and noticed the Switch has a dead battery, despite having been plugged in this whole time. I connected it to the USB-C power cable directly to charge it up, while I cleaned and repacked the dock and the other accessories. It's been sitting for a while "charging", but the battery capacity bar doesn't seem to be moving. Can a Switch battery fail from sitting on the charger for months at a time unused? I thought they had overcharging protection?
Anyway, I will order a battery kit and replace it. No big deal, they are cheap and this is an easy repair.
However I still want to know if this was a fluke, or if my neglect caused the battery to fail prematurely. Anyone else have something similar happen?
bro exactly the same for me, just ordered a repair kit aswell
@@prodiNTOX Mine charged up fine eventually in the end, and I didn't have to. However, I was worried for a moment.
@@joecarroll8724 anything u did exactly? I gotta know
@@prodiNTOX plugged it directly into the official USB-C power supply that came with it (instead of through the dock or my phone charger and cable)
So where can we buy the battery?
check out the description
Yall literally didn't mention all the screws, or the fact that the battery is glued I place from factory, but aside from that great video
Question: what if the screw next to the charger port and next the fan fall out, how can I fix that?
People, stop saying it's a good video. Misleading the viewer is not a good thing. Literally e1very comment about the removing the actual battery tells me that this IS NOT a good video.
Thanks for not mentioning the adhesive on the back of the battery. "Gently with a plastic card." My asshole
I don’t like how you know about my obsession like that 😂😂😂😂 calling me out the first couple seconds of their video 😂💀💀😂😂
Really helped Thanks! you made t look waaay too easy lol my battery was stuck in there Haha
Shoutout to the adhesive company, that tough stuff
There are 6 screws in the metal plate, two at the bottom right corner.
Also, the battery is glued pretty firmly in the console. you CAN get it out with a plastic card but it takes a lot of effort and patience. Don't try to shortcut it; you'll regret it. Take your time.
My battery wont come out need help!!

Time Required
45 minutes - 2 hours
Video - 1 minute 43 seconds..... Ok then. I know its sped up and cut up, but no way this takes you 45 minutes even if you're new.
No mentioning of needing to clean off and replace the old Thermal paste?? Seems like a pretty important part to forget..
Nice Video! Btw, i am thinking to do a battery upgrade for the switch, any recommendation on which battery model should i pick?
David Ocelot You cannot upgrade the battery. The latest Switch revision uses the exact same battery as the original. The difference in battery life is due to a more energy efficient chip
what types and lengths are these screws? I need replacements.
That's a lot of screws for a battery replacement on a handheld console. I wish the Switch's successor (if there will be) would have a battery that's easy to access.
Instructions unclear. Link stucked on the tree.
And now I have a half opened Switch
Useful video if only it mentioned that there is a glue pad holding the battery down if it is not already been replaced
I'm having trouble with one of the screws
There is no way that the battery is so easily removed. It's held in place with very strong double-sided tape. It's best to heat it, carefully, with a heat gun, or hairdryer, and add isopropyl alcohol, around the circumference of the battery. Begin to gently pry up with a large spudger, or card. Be very careful not to puncture the battery, or you could cause chaos. Remember, isopropyl alcohol is your friend.
original battery is double sided taped to the switch? or bec mine was bloated was it stuck by its chemicals? used gentle force and was able to remove it and replace it. thanks for the guide!
Is it recommended to replace the thermal paste too? Or can you reuse it?
If it looks good and is Not dry then you Can reuse it. If Not you Can replace it.( under the copper pipe is also thermal paste)
I just crammed my card under the battery and it came out pretty easy. Didn’t (glue) the battery in place so it moves alittle but i dont mind
Thanks a lot I know I'm going to need this someday
What about re applying thermal paste on the metal back plate
Just wanted to add about the glue down battery issue. What I use was a flat kitchen knife and lifted it out on multiple sides of battery. Be warn this may could cause damage to insiders the scene
Please tell me there's a video on how to build all the pieces back.
"Gently pry the battery up and out of its well."
Not me trying to do that right now whilst battery clings to well for its life*
maybee having your video following yourpicture by picture tutorial would be a good idea ^^'
this video a bit misleading, there was 2 screws I had to remove not mentioned here and the battery had so much glue it nearly folded in half taking it out.
lol how did it not explode?
The 4 tri-point screws are now stripped but still firmly attached. What's the next step?
dont forget about the 150lb test glue under the battery...
Why does this video make it look so easy to actually REMOVE the battery? “Gently pry the battery up and out of its well.” Obviously the Switch in this video has had its battery replaced before because there’s a ton of glue holding my battery in place!
❤️ your videos.
Make sure you reuse the adhesive on the back of the battery because my new battery shakes around inside of it :c still badass
When the iFixit tutorial on changing the battery is five years old, it is time for a console refresh.
My Nintendo switch won’t come on at all that means it’s time for a battery switch?
Do you guys have a video showing how to replace the speakers? Mine are blown. :( they sound awful
Thank you.
is there no dubble side tejp on the battery?
so ipa is no need to remove battery
Thanks , brilliant video
is it possible to get a revised switch battery and place it in an older switch model to have the longer battery life?
No, because both models have the same battery. the difference in battery life is due to an updated SoC (the CPU/GPU package) that uses less power.
@@TheSwissMotard good to know, thanks!
