i didnt include New Shanghai in this video (even though i go there quite a bit) because i feel like most people already know about them. but do let me know if you have any other Shanghainese restaurants you like!
hey Janice - good vid, I'll definitely give a few of these places a go that I haven't been to before. PS you spelt restaurant wrong in the vid title :P~
OMG I'm Shanghainese also but I live on a typical gym person's diet on a day-to-day basis 😅 before moving to Sydney I lived in Shanghai till I was 16. This almost brings a tear to my eyes, well done Janice 👌🏼
ow just uploaded Shanghai food videos and now watching your videos. made me miss Shanghai so much, and yes we tried Yang's dumpling in Shanghai and it was soo good! we will try the Burwood one for sure.
@Janice Fung keep up the good work. Here's an idea for a video - Favourite Wontons in Sydney. I used to frequent a place in Burwood called "Canton Noodle House" that had large Cantonese style pork and prawn wontons with chunks of pork meat (not mince) and a unique flavour. Unfortunately around 2 or 3 years ago the ownership of the restaurant changed and the new owners changed the wonton recipe (or were never provided the recipe by the old owners). Since then I've been looking for something that matched this place but haven't found any that came close. Would be good if you were able to show us some of your favourite places for wontons.
YUM looks amazing, you always make the food look so great on camera. Yes vinegar & shredded ginger is a MUST and completes the dish. Think I might go and get some birthday dumplings to celebrate today.
@@JaniceFung Thanks Janice. Yes i did, i had a family dinner and we went to try out Dumplings Taipei in Baulkham Hills. Had Taiwanese braised beef noodle soup & Pork Xiao Lung Bao.
@@JaniceFung The Taiwanese braised beef noodle soup was great & Pork Xiao Lung Bao are probably up there in my top 10 best in Sydney although slightly smaller then others that i have had. They also sell there homemade dumplings aswell and have a little area at the front of the restaurant where they sell taiwanese food & snacks.
Xiao Long Bao is my favourite kind of dumpling....there is a restaurant chain in Singapore that have unique XLB flavours infused into the broth like Garlic, Sze Chuan, Cheese, Foie Gras, etc
I prefer another pork dumplings place. It is on your left as you walk into burwood plaza from the Yang's. I am guessing they have chicken soup in the juice which feels less oily.
When you say "Hello, hello, hello", It is so cute! You would make me happy if you did a highlight video of nothing but your introductions! Well now to watch the rest of the vid and get hungry!
Ms Fung ..I just saw both front and back camera 🎥 📸 recording at the same time..love ❤️ to see you shooting and eating 🍽 lol 😂. For android phone OS 9 and up front and back camera app . For Apple , IPhone 11 Pro and up .. using FilMic App .. love ❤️ the 上海小籠包
Great video Janice! Keep them coming! Making me hungry with the suggestions! Can you do a Bao crawl next? I've been looking for the best Bao in Sydney for both restaurant eat-in as well frozen so you can steam at home. The ones from the Asian grocery stores are pethetic, and the only decent one I've found is in the Eastwood Arcade packed by Sydney Dim Sum, but keen to know if you or your audience/friends know of any more? My favourite is the "Big" bao rather than the standard char siew.
I need more exposure to Shanghai food! Also, just realised I have been eating XLB the wrong way after watching this lol I need to try that next time (take the top off and pour sauce in it). I freaking live Dandan noodles! Also, was Yang’s dumplings a food truck back then?
@@JaniceFung Mint (Vietnamese restaurant) on top half burwood road... little bit further up from the commonwealth bank... Really good flavourful pho and lots of other out of the box vietnamese dishes you probably have never tried :) They also have wagyu beef pho! banh xeo, the beef mince wrapped in betel leaves, and the deep fried ice cream are some other nice dishes they have!
I've only had soup dumplings while in Philadelphia, unfortunately dumplings are harder to find where I am. I know they're here, but I have to find them and drive to get them.
Hahahahaha I actually lol-ed Yes you are right. I think I wanted to say “it never disappoints” and I also wanted to say “it never fails to hit the spot” and then I think it just combined into that.. and I didn’t even notice it while editing
I seldomly eat dumpling in a shop in Australia... not worth it.. too expensive... and what's worse is they usually get it from huge warehouse all machine made and all tasted the same
"Nong Vey Le" 侬烦来 doesn't mean what are you doing it means "you're annoying" ”Nong Zu Sa 侬做撒“ means - What are you doing. "Xiang Mi Kong 香面孔" doesn't mean fragment cheeks, it means "to kiss on the face"
😪I really regret not paying attention when my grandma wanted to teach me shanghainese... now half of the 7 phrases I thought I knew are actually wrong too.. thank you for correcting me!
I would have to disagree that 257 Home Kitchen is a good place. Despite their popularity, I find their food not up to standard when compared to restaurants in Shanghai. The only thing that is authentic is their service. Absolutely shitty service like what you get in a typical restaurant in Shanghai.

New Shanghai has been my holy grail for pain fried pork buns for going on 5+ years haha. Theyre amazing

New shanghai memz... rainbow beef 🤤
Just changed it 😅
Taste of Shanghai / Lilong chain. Ok yes it’s not a proper Shanghai restaurant per se, but they do have some Shanghainese dishes.
Thanks for all the great food videos! Gonna visit Sydney on a few months and I made a huge list from your content!
another great video janice! love the shang
Thank you ☺️
@@JaniceFung thanks janice

Another great video! I totally agree re black vinegar, its the MVP of dumpling sauces 💯
ThanksSteph:)

Yeahh! We should go some time Kev!
Always interesting and informative and entertaining. Nice vlog as always stay safe
Cheers Michael, take care
Yes you’re so right with Chinese black vinegar with shredded ginger it goes so well with the dumplings especially fresh ginger.
I know right! Perfect combo

Hope you have some close by!

Just wandering how you keep so fit while having so many good foods.. Is it because of the black vinegar? 😋
Hahaha I actually needa work out more to burn off all the food..
everything looks so good
They were !
wow, . Added to my must try food list😋
Let me know what ones you’re fave!
Yessss for Yangs!
Love your food videos!! My wife and I love dan dan noodles. Our fav place closed not long ago. Grape garden in Chatswood
Thanks guys!
Omg half way through and I am starving....

I might be able to catch you around these areas. Anyway,I liked the video
Do say hi if you see me! And thanks for watching!
I just finished my dinner and I am quite full but I made the mistake of watching your video. Now I am craving for Dumplings 🥟and Xiao Long Bao 😋 !!!
Haha I always have space in my stomach for dumplings 😅
Yangs pan fry dumpling definitely is the best in Sydney for me. Add....oil
I’ll have to go to their restaurant next time, my take away box had too much condensation
yes!! ashfield and burwood classic.
Yummm craving shanghainese food!

Much cheaper in Sydney here in Perth nothing under $10 average price is $12++.
And lia meng at Xi bay burwood
Must visit Burwood for dumplings
And they have soooo much variety of food there too
