Fantastic. The way he explained the switch between Dc and Ac plus measuring of water flow was awesome. Nowhere on the internet or days training did I see this explained in such a hands on way. Thank you👍
The beauty of this job Allen is you learn in this job from the day you start to the day you retire . When I started it was bymetalic strips and pilot lights now you need to be electronics technician as well .
As someone who has just qualified and don't have the fault finding experience these videos are brilliant for me 👍if we can get more that would be great thanks
This is great video content. I've been a gas engineer for 8yrs and do mainly installing but have never gone down the breakdown route. Now thanks to your videos I can now begin this route. Many thanks!
Thanks for the detailed video. As a plumbing and heating technician these types of videos are very useful. I would love to see one on Viessman detailing how to test all the components.
Your videos are so helpful allen... have used them for reference many a time. Its so much easier watching a video of how to do stuff. Opposed to reading from the manufacturers instructions.
Good vid. If you want to find out if the Dhw pipes are crossed just run heating for 5 seconds then open hot tap, you’ll feel cold pipe getting hot for a few seconds. Diagnosed in less time than it takes to get multimeter out.
It's a good idea for ideal to do this as baxi have done it for a while so would be good to know how to diagnose and fix different parts on an ideal boiler. Maybe if ideal use a camera man so the engineer can show us properly
Would very appreciate this type of videos as trainees and faults finding, would love if one day could make video on the EBUS on vaillant please. . You are a star , very appreciate your hard work
Very nice Allen. Would be perfect to have some kind of collection of videos about most common boiler issues from your own experience and possible testing and solutions for them. Well done mate 👍
Really nice video Allan Be nice for us trainees to see more like this on how to test different things within a boiler mainly with the common boilers Maybe how to test a fan on a worcester green Star or the fan on the ideal as they are a great boiler
Great video Allen , My logic 24 combi the heating flow pipe gets hot when the hot tap is running would that be the diverter valve or the flow turbine 🤔
Hi Allan. Once again great video, i found it interesting that he was looking for an ac voltage coming out off the flow switch? in my limited experience on other types of boilers you normally get 5v dc going into the flow sensor and if the turbine or sensor is working correctly you normally get half the voltage dc out (2.5vdc) is this just the case for ideal boilers or that type of sensor or have I got it completely wrong? Thanks keep up the good work 👍🏻
Will the boiler regulate the heat engine depending on a lower/higher voltage/hz signal or is the signal simply an on/off ‘switch’ with heat then regulated by the thermistors in the boiler? Thanks
Here’s another tip for guys just starting out on fault finding. This video shows the later composite water set on a Logic. The models before used a brass water set and the Hall effect sensor clips on. This older hall sensor has a small red LED built into it. Each pulse of the magnet rotation causes the led to light. If the turbine is spinning correctly with a decent flow demand, these pulses should made the led seem continuously lit. If you see this led flashing at all whilst the tap is turned on, there’s a very good chance the turbine is sticking. Hope this helps someone one day!
@@Home_made_ch hi. If the turbine is jammed then the LED will not light at all. If the LED seems to flicker on and off then there’s a good chance the turbine isn’t freely rotating but not completely stuck. If the turbine is ok then the pulses of the LED will be so fast that it will look like it’s continuously lit. 👍🏻
@@Lutonman2010 yes, so far i know. I mentiones as in your previos reply is saying if led does, instead of doesn't. But in my case exactly led is flashing regularly and change frequency accordind hot water tap position. But boiler not igniting. However CH is working fine and ignition get on and off in time
@@Home_made_ch could be a pcb issue/stat issue if you’ve ruled out the turbine/hall sensor. If you call ideal tech then they can get you to check the voltage on the board from the hall sensor. I can’t remember which terminals you have to check. I think on that model it’s on the DC side.
It’s virtually the same flow sensor as the viessmann 050 model boiler thankfully ideal boilers have switched over to grundfos quality water housings now so we should see no more problems!
Thankyou for this video, replaced a turbine today. My god it was tight to release the turbine from its housing at one point I thought it ain't going to move, but got it out eventually. New one in, water on job done.
I would say that no, they are would work slightly different and have different voltage readings back to the boiler. But the main principles are the same, you would have to call the technical line and get the info from them.
Great vid. Two components, a flow turbine and a hall sensor. A but. How do you determine if the turbine or the hall sensor is defective? Obvious once you know. The new to this may do a wrong diagnosis.
If your getting a Hz frequency signal, a stable one, but you are not getting the AC voltage back to the pub then you probably have a bad Hall sensor, Also if you pass a magnet over the Hall sensor back and to quickly it should activate the Boiler, if it does not then it is probably faulty, I wanted to keep it simple and not shove too much info in the vid. There is always more you can do but the basics are all in there.
Hi I have ideal boiler esp1 35. My boiler is 3 years old and I head engineer twice already. First time he come when the boiler was brand new we move into the property and the water was giving. What you think of new logics with the plastic front covers just think they're going to break at hinges at top over time wonder how much to replace it. Better tell anyone got one not to lean to hard on it🤔🤔🤔
I could be wrong because I don’t read the instructions left with the boiler, but I don’t think you get really in-depth readings measurements in them, technical helpline will give you all that you need though,
@@kevincranfield5235 Hi Kevin, that's what I thought, I've got a copy of one of the MI's, and most things are the basics, but also informative. The good thing is, the tech guys on all of these boilers are really helpful, and they give the dogs b's of info most of the time.
You will have turned off the cold water inlet valve when topping up the pressure. Second valve in front the right, blue handle, pull in down and all should be o.k.
Hi guys, I was changing one of these yesterday but the clip was from the bottom not the side of the turbine and I broke the clip and the wires actually came out of it. that's the first time I've ever done this but I'm sure I'm not the first, is this fixable? really not sure where you would get a replacement clip head its never something you think about until it happens. any help would be really appreciated guys thank you
