How to tie a Stretchy Wrap - Simple Hip Carry

- Hip carries can be great for babies who have reached "nosy baby" phase. This typically starts in earnest around 3 to 4 months (although sometimes a little earlier or later) and around this time you will notice baby starting to fuss and craning for a better view when awake in the stretchy wrap on your front. A hip carry gives them that better view while still giving them a snuggly carry they can relax and fall asleep in if they wish.
There are other ways you can use your stretchy on your hip but this method is the simplest because you start by tying it exactly as you would for carrying baby on your front using the pocket wrap cross carry method. There is just one change - once you have tied you work out which hip you'd like to carry baby on and then drop the strap on that side off your shoulder and bring it under your arm. The tightness of the wrap will then need to be adjusted and then your ready to simply load your baby into the wrap on your side!
Because this method is pre-tied again this is a method that works best for a two-way stretchy wrap. It is important to ensure it is snug before you start because as this is a one shouldered carry you will find it will put more strain on your back if it is loose.
This is so helpful! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Love this ❤
I cannot wait to try this
💕💕💕💕 thank you 😊
You are welcome
I’m looking forward to trying this - my baby is 8 months and has become quite alert and curious. We started carrying him facing forward in a fixed, clipped wrap, but I find it uncomfortable, and I’ve been reading that it’s probably not ideal for him to be in that position for long periods of time. Some baby wearing advocates suggested a side carry, which I’d been doing with a ring sling, but also found kind of uncomfortable. He’s also getting wriggly, so the ring sling doesn’t always feel secure. I have a Moby that I love, but my dog recently chewed it, so I’m circling back to a stretchy Solly baby wrap that I had dismissed as too stretchy. Long story short, this video will help me try out a different carry that might be more comfortable for both of us.
This was amazing! Thank you so much! I did do mine with my sons head on the "shoulder" strap (so baby was opposite of where you placed yours) only because I have a 2 month old...his head control is amazing, but I needed something quick so I could get dishes done! (I can't see over his body into the sink if I wear him normally 😂) anyways, thank you!! Super simple! I'll definitely do it the correct way once he's bigger, but this helped me out in a pinch! 🥰
I am so glad it was helpful 💕💕
Also there is no correct way! This is simply aimed to be some ideas of things you can do but actually there are far more variations that will work and will work beautifully than the 11 carries I show in this series sheenslings.com/2020/04/04/what-can-i-do-with-a-stretchy-wrap/
I am so glad it was helpful 💕
Sorry this has changed since I posted it should read ... there is no such thing as a correct way! These are simply ideas of things you can do but there are many other ways that are just as "correct"
Oh my gosh this is amazing! We travel abroad in 3 weeks and I was worried I would be really hot with the fabric all over my back but this will be so much better! What a god send!! X
Glad its helpful
Wow! This is so cool! Thanks! Although I would looove to use this with my Manduca and 5mo baby, but it's getting warmer and three elastic band layers are just too much in 15+ degree Celsius 😢
idea good
Many many thanks! Glad you liked it
Thank ypu+
You are welcome!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. Just one doubt - which is better - this or Robin's hip carry? When do u prefer one over the other?
This video is part of a larger blog and I answer that exact question in the blog! You can find it here ... sheenslings.com/2020/04/04/what-can-i-do-with-a-stretchy-wrap/
My son just had the biggest meltdown while I tried to figure out which bits went where...I had to give up in the end 😭
I offer online consultations if that would help. I make these videos as reminders to clients who I have taught in person rather than to learn from afresh
What is the length and breadth of this cloth
5m by 50cm. Although I find i can do this tie in all stretchy wraps ... its not dependent on small differences in length and width between brands. It is a boba wrap so it is very very stretchy and will behave differently to a woven wrap of the same dimensions. Hope that helps!

@@kalaiselvi6954 It might be worth checking out tutorials for woven wraps rather than stretchy wraps. The woven material of your saree will be more similar to a woven wrap. I have a woven wrap playlist, and more info on my website here sheenslings.com/tutorials/
