    Another thing about tsunamis that probably everyone already knows anyways, but in case not: before tsunamis make landfall the water retreats back into the sea, revealing seabed that shouldn't be above water. At that point there's only some minutes left to make an escape, but still more time than visual confirmation of the waves.

    • @Marinus_Calamari
      @Marinus_Calamari Год назад +1

      It's a classic sign, but it's important te note that there's only a 50/50 chance of the trough being the first part of the tsunami to arrive, when that's not the case and the crest is first to make landfall, the sea won't recede before tshtf.

      @@zbz5505A When people think of a wave, they usually only think of the crest (the "hill" of water) but the trough (the "valley" next to the wave) is also part of it. If the trough of the Tsunami reaches the coast first the water will recede before the business part of the tsunami arrives, but in about half of the cases, the crest will make landfall first. So the water receding is indeed a good indication that you should (quite literally) run for the hills, but if the water doesn't recede, it doesn't mean there won't be a tsunami.

    • @zbz5505
      @zbz5505 Год назад

      @@Marinus_Calamari the reason I heard is, the water recedes before tsunamis since large waves are basically massive accumulations of water. So the water is not near the coast bc it's in the ocean and will return when the tsunami arrives.

      Also, I believe that they get partially possessed by their duties after every decision. The moment the family refuses, you can see their eyes glazing they just start acting on autopilot. After the sacrifice is done, they revert back to themselves.

Not all of them, only bcz, they are so genius that I never would've been able to think of the ways to escape and avoid some pretty terrible and crazy movie circumstances/death. I agree with a lot of your points and especially for the thought process of each character. If what they weren't right about or was lying about didn't come true. But since it did, I feel like the rest of your points would not only not help, but could actually make things worse. I.e. when they killed Sabrina, Leonard ended up having to kill Sabrina off before time which, sped up the process to Leonard having to take his life. It seems like they had a day of consideration/ and per each doomsdayers. If so, that mean they had another day to try to out think of what to do about Leonard. But instead he was forced to self delete himself after Sabrina. And with all of the doomsdayers gone, they actually see that everything the doomsdayers said was indeed true. Killing them off sooner would've doomed the world and them much sooner. They ultimately didn't beat it and were literally forced to pick between the options the doomsdayers said they had. It'd be a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" like situation. There is no truly winning or beating this situation.

    This is actually an interesting premise for this sort of genre.
    The horror isn't about torture or being physically over powered, it's psychological, about making a very tough decision.
    The decision for me though is easy.
    I'd do exactly what I do now.
    Tell god to fuck off.
    Any god that demands that sacrifice of innocents is not worth one appeasing, I'd rather see humanity end than have them grovel before such a being.
    Besides, a being of that power is going to do whatever they want regardless of what you decide, and will do what it wants with you when you inevitably die in the future.
    Might as well show that no matter what it threatens, you will not bend to evil.

    Openly states that one of the three family members can't sacrifice themselves and yet Eric openly sacrifices himself by telling Andrew to kill him. I get that they probably meant that they couldn't kill themselves but I think it would have been so much better if neither of the adults wanted to be the one who died and one would have to snap and kill the other for the sake of their daughter

      Didn't the movie say that their sacrifice has to be consensual?? I think you heard it wrong

    I loved this movie, but it was so hard to get past the one dad being from Mindhunter, I can't see him as anyone but Holden

      Wow, I am a huge Mindhunter fan, but I couldn’t remember where I recognized him from, it had been long enough since I’ve watched Mindhunter to where my brain didn’t make that connection until I just read your comment

    The one time How To Beat doesn't want to kill someone and this is the one time when it is inarguably a necessity LMAO

    I guess it’s because of butterfly effect but I hate stories that don’t explain their logic in details. Thanks to How to Beat, I don’t need to watch this in cinema. Humanity is going to be doomed sooner or later so meh, I don’t care. If you have time to kill me, you better use this time to protect your family. Like Tsunami and virus are not completely deadly, you still have time to do something to survive instead of sacrificing anyone.

    I will say, as a kid who grew up in the woods, playing alone outside is no big deal. You just stay near the house, and you’re fine
