Ethics is something these stories completely ignore. Just the first scenario alone hurts my brain. A guy develops an app that can accurately predict the stock market. Would that tech alone destroy the economics of every country in the world? There must be balances but if you could predict exactly the gains of every stock, it would ruin the global society at large. A single person could control the entire world financially.

The app would have to be banned. It seems impossible but maybe if some kind of future AI could do this taking into account all of the information on the internet. if it caused huge market problems like a collapse of stock prices the companies would all be undervalued just because of an app and be worth more than their stock price.

In cosmos (with Neil) there was a episode where he talked about a certain scientist who made a discovery about gas or oil and he legitimately got threatened by the owners of the biggest oil/gas companies. The guy who made epi pens rose the cost to $800. We already have the means to cure cancer, renewable energy etc.. but the people who make millions if not billions off these industries wouldn’t allow that. These people have so much power and money they could bribe anyone including the president. Our world leaders aren’t really the ones in control of things some individuals as a collective genuinely have the power to economically collapse a country even the world those are the ones that wouldn’t allow such innovations to prosper since that means they’re not going to have that power and money anymore
I thought this could have been good. They made the country far trigger-happy with the nukes and jumping into wars. If it was that easy and quick, how it happened every inch would have some conflict.
