Do you DNF? Do you find it difficult or easy?
I’m the queen of dnf I don’t feel guilty at all unless it’s a series then I feel a little bad for not completing it. And using the library makes it wayyyyy easier too.
If I DNF, it's almost always within the first 10%. It's usually the writing style that turns me off or I find that the premise isn't doing anything for me. If I make it past 30% or so, unless it's a tome, I usually push through because I do get some enjoyment out of forming an opinion out of a book, even if I didn't like it. I would like to have more willpower to DNF books I'm not enjoying past the 50% mark, but haven't been able to yet lol.
I just started DNF'ing last year. It's still hard at times, and I do feel some disappointment or irritation whenever I put a book down, but it also feels so freeing, to just let go and move on. I reccomend it. 🌸
I find it very hard to DNF. I don’t want to miss anything! Like the book the Silent Patient. Kinda slow at the beginning, but man, that twist at the end!! I never saw that coming! Such a great book, in my opinion now.
I used to not DNF, but now I do all the time. I DNF'd a book after one page.
Emily coming up with any video idea: let me know guys if you are interested in that! 🤔
Emily, I would literally watch an hour long video of you reading in silence, don't underestimate me
👀
@@BookswithEmilyFox reading sprints? 😉😉
Would you really watch that? I’m planning on recording myself reading “ice planet barbarians” a few days before I get surgery (no date yet) so we’ll see how that goes 😂
@@BookswithEmilyFox I certainly would! I would watch you read your grocery list if you posted it 😂
@@BookswithEmilyFox that sounds such a great idea, you can film at least one read with me vidoe. Make it long 😂
As you get older you start to realize how limited free time is and how short life is. It makes much more sense to me to DNF something you're not enjoying to hopefully free up time for something you do.
I DNF. life is short, my TBR is long 😂
I need to get that tattooed on my forehead
I’d love to see a video of you counting your books and percentages of read/unread 😁 those types of videos inspire me to read more from my owned tbr
I always dnf books. When I first started reading I would just read every book I started no matter if I was enjoying it or not. I don't usually add these to my goodreads goal unless I've read a huge majority of the book. Some books I do come back to but not often.
Looks like we're similar!
I adopted the name “Pile of Shame” from you because I never knew what to call the books I put down but DID plan to go back to 😂 I’m a mood reader and sometimes I’ll come across a book that I NEED to start right now while I’m already in the middle of a book and that previous book gets accidentally forgotten 😅 😂
It’s the perfect name for it haha I used to do that a lot but I haven’t in a while. Idk if I’m improving or not but I’ve been having a great reading year so I’m not questioning it!
@@BookswithEmilyFox A good year is all that matters! 😊 I’ve definitely been adding less to the pile but I need to hop on actually tackling the pile itself haha I might just try your “read it or unhaul it” challenge!
Yes! Would love a video about the books you own vs. loved! 🤩🌸
I sometimes DNF books unintentionally. I'd be slowly making my way through a book, then I don't read it for one day because I have to do something else, then I forget to read it another day because another book catches my eyes, and before I know it, I have not continued it for a month, already forget everything I've read so far, and am tired to re-start from the beginning. So, I just give up on it. 😂
Quite a few books made it to my pile of shame because of the exact same thing 😂
SO EXCITED!!! 🎃🎃🍃👻🍁📚📚📚🍁🍂🍁🍁🍃🎃🍃🍁🍂📙📖📙📙📚📚📚🍁🍂🍂🍂👻🎃🎃🎃👻🍂🍂🍂🍁🍃🎃🎃👻🍁📖📖📙📚📚🍃👻🍁🍂🍁👻
I love how you mentioned the change of weather can create a struggle for reading. I'm really loving all of the creepy books I've picked up, but I feel the cold weather longing to get through some classics
It's so funny how we associate certain genres for each season!
Yes please count your books and do some statistics.
I recently started a cozy mystery book called Shady Hollow and it's so fun and witty. The story is about a peaceful small town where the residents are forest animals and one day a body is found! How fun is that? I honestly think you would love it.
I totally get The Shining there! It is one of King's most difficult books and, tbh, I almost DNFd it the first time I read it too. However, I read it again this year (after reading many other King books) and it was a completely different experience, so much that I wrote my end of degree essay on it! But yeah, it is a very slow book and it takes a lot to get into, so much that things don't pick up until the last third of the book. But I wholeheartedly recommend it if you feel like it in some years' time! Loved the video btw xx
Daisy Darker is a mystery/thriller where they are stuck on an island and the family starts dying one by one
I find it really difficult to difficult too. You are inspiring me to do it more though!
You look amazing Emily and keep up the amazing work 🍂🎃🍃🍂🍁🍂🍃📚📚📙📖📙📚📙📖📙🎃🎃👻🍂🍁🍁🍂👻🍃🎃🎃🍃🍂🍁🍂👻🍃🎃🎃🍃🍂🍂🍁👻🍃📚📚📙📙📙🎃👻👻👻🍁🍁🍂👻📙📚📚🎃🎃🍃👻🍂🍂🍂👻
Do you really need to ask if we want a video with the total number of books on your shelves and the percentage of read/unread/on the pile of shame? Duh! Of course we do! (can't wait for your end of the years' stats, those vids are always so satisfying with the graphs!)
I have started DNFing books those recent years but I am still not doing it as much as I should 😅
For me the best part of dnfing books is knowing that it still got another book out of my library branch so they will keep their numbers up and get more funding. I may not have enjoyed the book but at least my time means I'll be able to check out more books that I might like later. My last dnf was First Binding because as much as the first 100 or so pages caught my interest I just couldn't care about the whole childhood story. Oh no, yet another male protagonist that was orphaned and treated poorly until he discovered he can easy master a cool thing which leads him to majorly messing up his life until he goes into hiding. Though I might have that whole trope tainted for me by the horrendous bloated pile of poop that was wise man's fear. And no I will never stop hating that book, it was useless narratively and I was waiting for someone to try and kill Qwhat's -his-face because I certainly wanted to.
Happy Tuesday Emily hope you are having a great day xoxo 😚 🍂👻🎃👻🍂🍂🍂👻🎃🎃📚📚🎃🎃🍁🍂📖📖📖👻🍂🍃🍃🍃🍂👻🍁🎃📚📚🎃🍁👻🍂📙📖📖📖🍂🍃🍂👻🍁🎃🎃📚🍁👻🍃
I just wanted to let you know (as a follower from long ago) of your beauty channel... well, I'm back. I somehow, miraculously? Found your book channel on youtube last week and immediately subscribed. I still love makeup and beauty- but am bored with makeup videos. ((Not yours!)) Just in general. However, books. Books, I will never get bored of. Also, your voice is so pretty. And I love your super nice and chill personality. Maybe one day we can meet over coffee and talk books! So, hi. 😇📚👌🏼
It happened the same to me with The Angel's Game! I loved The Shadow of the Wind but I couldn't get through the second book. I don't like the feeling of DNF but it helps a lot, especially if you don't want to end up in a reading slump, so yes, I support DNF haha.
I love your channel 💜
I must not be as picky as you are because I rarely have books that I end up hating. I can think of one book I read that was so absolutely weird and boring to start with that I considered putting down, and it ended up going in an even weirder direction that ended up being a more satisfying read than I thought it would be. I did recently put down a YA book that just isn't my cup of tea. I don't think I could unhaul only once per year though. I really need to get rid of that YA book to some good home. (It's an ARC so I have a bit more limited options as to what to do with it.)
I find it the hardest to DNF books that were given to me as a gift, like the person probably thought I'd love it, and I really want to love it because they gave it to me, but sometimes they are just not good.
Such a good point!
I really struggle dnf'ing the 3-star books. I'm slowly making my way through Raven Stratagem 😅
I'm so happy to hear that you dnfed Crime and Punischment. Everyone in booktube likes this book. However, for me it was the most frustrating story to read in school. I had struggled so much in school with russian literature. More than 10 years later still have no desire to continue to explore russian literature.
I still find very hard to DNF... maybe someday. I loved Crime and Punishment (I tend to like big long and chatty books) but didn't enjoy The Angel game either. I had trouble with The Witcher too.. and I realised that I did not finished that thing... oops! Maybe I can do it! I'm actually at 50% of the song of Achilles but I find it "meh"... I'm actually working on a spreadsheet with all my physical books... it's... depressing!
You can try And then there were none by Agatha Christie for murder mystery on an island. Loved it!
Dracula and The Color Purple are two books i've put down for now although it's always in the back of my mind that I need to finish them
I love that you call it your pile of shame, it is such a good name for it lol. I have my own pile of shame shelf, lets hope it doesn't grow!
I definitely DNF these days, though I had to learn how to get better at it as well. It has the really nice bonus effect of making me more thoughtful of books I buy (as I'm poor and can't splash out too much), and more likely to get tons out from the library. My collection ends up better curated, my local library gets some support, I spend less time reading books I don't like - it's a total win-win-win situation. 👌
A couple of Mystery/Thrillers I enjoyed that take place in one location is No Exit by Taylor Adams which is set in a remote highway rest stop in a snow storm in Colorado and The Secrets of Strangers by Charity Normal which takes place over a day in a cafe in London.
Since you brought it up, V. E. Schwab is publishing all works going forward under that name including middle grade and YA.
I’ve had The Female of the Species on my shelf for a long time now, and I see it in your background, so I was wondering if you recommended it? I’m trying to decide if I want to get rid of it.
I’ve learned to DNF pretty quickly. But this year I did push through the Licanius trilogy and was just meh about them.
Not sure if this is the small town vibes you would like, but Linda Castillo writes murder mysteries based in the Amish community. It’s the Kate Burkholder series. I’ve found them super entertaining!
Hey Emily I remember you said in one of your videos (I don't remember which) for us to leave in the comments films we'd like to read books similar to and you would maybe do a video about it. I just watched Dark City (1998) and I would absolutely love to read books that have that vibe, if you could recommend me any! Thanks!
Earlier this year i started Under the Skin by Michael Faber and did not like it at all. There was an unsettling feeling about it which others would like but i felt legit creeped out. given i don't like any kind of horror or suspense i didn't find that fun as others might have. i had to put it down. what's the point of putting myself through a bad moment? lol
when you pick books back up, do you restart them or do you pick up off of where you left it?
For me its very dependent on how much I remember of the book, but I usually restart them.
Agree with DNFing being a challenge for sure! Now I’m near 50 I’m brutal about it. Will keep it up!
It's also a work in progress for me, but I've been doing quite well recently, so I'm satisfied. Thanks to that, I've been reading more and enjoying it more.
It's up to the writer to hold your attention...i don't feel bad...but most times I keep the book...and try to figure why I chose it...a chance for self awareness...
Eat,Pray& love & A Casual Vacancy , The Book of two ways were some of my DNF. I do have a NRN not right now sort of a pile of shame.
Crime & Punishment pays off in the end, yes the beginning was slow but by the end I love it!
If you want isolated thrillers I recommend: the island by adrian mckinty, salvation day by kali wallace
Would you like to do a video on books you forced yourself to finish and are glad you did/actually enjoyed in the end?
That was entertaining thank you!
DNF is life changing! I should have started way sooner… Love the Read it or unhaul it challenge 😊
What happens to me sometimes is that I can tell the book isn't bad but I just don't feel connected to it. So I put the book down for a while and pick it up later. Most of the times it works and I end up really liking the book.
I used to be exactly like you in the past and force myself to finish books, even when I didn't particularly enjoyed them. 🙈But in recent years I've been trying to allow myself to DNF books that aren't working for me and while it's still a learning curve, it does take some of the pressure off. 💪🏻 At the moment, I'm going through my massive mountain of unread ebooks in my Kindle library, most of which I bought 7+ years ago, and in a similar fashion to your "Read it or unhaul it" challenge, I read the first chapter, see if it works for me and if it doesn't, I throw it in my DNF collection. 🔥📚🔥 All those books have been taunting me for so long and my reading taste has changed a lot since I bought them, so it's a big relief to finally reduce the amount of shame I've been feeling because of them. 🤣
I will both permanently and temporarily DNF books. I second guess myself sometimes. Actually a lot. Unless I give it away or physically ruin it, there’s always a possibility.
I've started DNFing so hard. Like not even bothering to finish 3-star books. Life's too short to not love every book you read! We're in the age of content overload!
I started DNF'ing this year. I find it challenging because I always want to finish a book, because you never know. However, the books I did DNF, I just could not see myself finishing them along with other books I wanted to read. Glad I started to lol
İ just finished „The Angel‘s game“ and it‘s actually kind of a prequel to the first book, where the main character of book one is not born yet. It didn’t keep up to book one honestly and it took me forever to realize that it‘s before book one😅 I looked it up and book 3 is about Daniel‘s father and book 4 about his son or something like that… I don‘t think I am going to continue
I kept hearing the rest of the series was worth it but... I might just consider book one a standalone XD
Agreed. If I am not invested it's not worth my while
For a while I was sort of into YA fantasy for my comfort reading but I think I got lucky in discovering good authors all at once, because suddenly I started encountering stuff that didn’t click with me at all. It’s easy to dnf when I wasn’t the target audience anyway.
New subscriber here.
I agree with you about the writing style of Carlos Ruiz Zafon being beautiful...but I couldn't finish The Shadow of the Wind. I read more than half of it and just lost interest. It's so weird, because I even made note of several passages because I loved them but the book, as a whole, just wasn't doing it for me.
I used to finish a book, no matter what, but I'm of a much more..."mature" age now, and there just isn't time for books that don't please me.
Question: When you get back to a book from your pile of shame...do you start at the beginning as if you haven't read it, or do you skim until you catch up to where you left off?
Recommendation for thrillers (I think they may actually be "crime" thrillers...but the mystery is really the mail focus on these that I liked): The Tom Reynolds Mystery Series by Jo Spain. First book: With Our Blessing.
I usually do reread them (especially if it's been years!) but sometimes I'll try them as audiobooks before continuing where I left off with the physical copy. Less commitment lol
I rarely DNF books, but I also rarely wish I hadn't wasted my time. Even the ones I just didn't like. I do have piles of shame and often make it back to them. The book I hated most but am still glad I read is Heart of Darkness. I tried Secret Agent later but I DNF'd that after about 10 pages. Conrad is not for me.
Don’t give up on historical fiction, there are so many great books. I don’t read WW2 books because I’m also really tired of them. I don’t dnf much because I am super careful about vetting my books.
I struggle to dnf books I read for challenges. There are at least a dozen this year only that I really wish I just dnf'ed.
I felt the same way about Killers of a Certain age. I was so bored and kept hoping it would get better! I did give it 3 stars
All of us books lovers understand the difference between “collecting” and “hoarding” lol. By the time I was in high school I stopped buying new books if I could find it at the library since I don’t like paying full price and cluttering my shelves for something I may not like, although I do accept them as gifts from family. I have had much less reading time this year though so some of my physical TBR I have “read” as audios since they have been sitting too long on my shelf and I truly did want to ready them.
It took until I was in college to accept that DNFing is acceptable. I consider 3 stars books that I enjoyed but they aren’t much to write home about, 4 is the majority of my reading, and 5 is reserved for stuff I truly loved. I usually try to push through a book unless I feel like I am slogging though it, or just can’t pay attention to it. Unfortunately my “pile of shame” is quite large lol.
I too have become brutal with my destashing, finally got rid of a book I’d been holding on to for 15yrs!!! Because I finally accepted it was a book I as interested in when I was 10 and had 0 intention of reading now lol. But also got rid of a bunch of books that I had read and just had no attachment to. Cleared up a whole shelf which felt good, but my immediate thought was “wow, an empty shelf, I need to go book shopping” 😂
Love me some good stats, count away!
I have 0 issues dnf'ing. 5 pages in and not feeling it? Next. Lol.
Had to dnf Beach Read by Emily Henry after 30% and didn’t count it to my goodreads books read. I am so much better now at dnf-ing than when I was younger… I’ve only got so much time to read and can’t waste it when it doesn’t work for me 😂I have to remind myself that it’s not about the stats more about the story and enjoyment! 😊
I’m struggling to finish it
I find her books to be bland. Book Lovers was okay but I found the main character in People We Meet on Vacation to be super annoying.
On the note of OverDrive/Libby, they are technically the same company (I think). But I got a notification on my Kindle that they're discontinuing OverDrive sometime next year.
Libby is an Overdrive app. Overdrive actually pushed Libby for a while to get people to try it; that’s how I ended up using Libby (which is by far the better app).
I never dnf a book, probably should try it. But i got to say most things i read i tend to give 3 to 5 stars. Is very rare for me to give 1 or 2 (just went to goodreads and only 5 of the books i read, i gave 2 stars and none 1 star). Or a really know my taste and don't go wrong very easily or i'm very easy to please.
I dnf'ed Babel and the second book after the Bobe Shards Daughter.
You might like Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney or Escape Room by Megan Goldin.
I've gotten really good at figuring out when to DNF and when to just set something aside for a better time, whereas I used to just put down a book I was struggling with and then hit a big slump because of the guilt. Although I sometimes give into the hate read when I'm in the mood to be angry lol.
Meanwhile, my father drives a lot for work and he's done all the audiobooks and podcasts for a long time. But right now he's stuck on Four Winds by Kristin Hannah, and is ready to drive off the road. The poor man just won't give it up even though it's clearly agonizing him every time he's in the car.
I'm learning to dnf bc of you hhahaha i still struggle but its fun to know that i can
Ooh I DNF’d the Witcher books this year too. There was SA and rape that was CONDONED in a book as a point of character development and I came to a screeeeeching halt with the series and I will only watch the show. I’m done lol.
I was hoping to get to Yennifer's part but after hearing more about it I'm glad I didn't continue. Still curious how bad the whole "witches are just bitter because they're ugly" is but oh well lol
I gave up on the Witcher books too. Just lotsa sexism and boredom. Blah.
I'm also still working on dnfing books I'm not enjoying. It's a work in process. I've started differentiating between full DNF and putting down for right now because I'm not in the right mood.
mystery in closed space - and then there were none (its a classic but its sooo good), daisy darker (its beased off of and then there were none - its okay i guess)
If you’re a Patron of mine: look away.
But I also didn’t enjoy Killers of a Certain Age very much. I mean, it was fiiiine. But I didn’t want to finish it.
GALLANT! Thank you! I didn’t care for it. Again, it’s fine for other people but I wanted something different out of it
It always feels disappointing when you were looking forward to a book and have to force yourself to finish it :/
I wish I dnf:ed, but I always feel so guilty and also doesn't know whether I should mark them as read or not on Goodreads. Not that it really matters, but it's still keeping me from doing it 😅
I'm one that can't DNF (I have dnfed only four books so far and I'm 53 years old) The main reason for this is the number of books I tend to love in the end is higher than the ones I dislike until the very end. One recent example is "Jade City" I would have missed so much if I let that one go (yeah I think of it as letting go and that does not help, at all) . Oh another one is Shuggie Bain, I disliked it until the one third and I got caught up in it later on and ended up giving it not only five stars but a lot of my precious tears.
I want to comment on Crime and Punishment. I have read it upon recommendation at my younger days and it was two volumes and I struggled to finish it, in the end declaring " it is a crime to read the book and the feelings you had throughout is the punishment". However I have started to read Karamazov Brothers years later and loved it. Then I read The Idiot and it was very good too. Mr. Dostoyevski's approach is not to my taste but as a lover of literature I take pleasure in his prose almost despite myself. The Gambler is very good too.
Ya I am better at putting books down now. I try and see the ending spoilers and then I’m good
I don't count DNFs as read unless I put them down at something like 80%. Otherwise I just don't see the point in counting them. Even on StoryGraph where they don't count DNFs as completed prompts in challenges, I just add random book I did finish to tick the prompt off. I'm getting better at DNFing but it's still work in progress. The hardest for me are actually graphic novels and comics, because I feel like they're so short that it's no skin off my nose to just power through.
My most unpopular DNF to this day is probably The Interview with the vampire. I read 50% and couldn't force myself to continue because it was so boring, and while the concept of a book as an interview sounds amazing, Anne Rice wasn't able to write it in a way that allowed me to forget it was an interview for more than 5 minutes.
I get what you mean about Angel's Game, but I guess I'm desensitized to that form of sexism and it didn't stop me from loving the books. The final book in the series might've been your favourite, while it's been my least favourite in part due to the main character who is a total badass chickTM whom every man between ages of 0 to 100 loves seconds after meeting.
I love the concept of pile of shame. I'll use it next time someone reminds me that I still haven't finished reading War and Peace lol
Have you seen the tv show? It’s great. I had the wonderful idea of watching it before I read it because there are lots of characters and now I don’t feel the need to 😂
@@BookswithEmilyFox I DID!!!! But I'm in a similar situation now lol. I started reading the book and I learned there was a show, so I thought well that'll motivate me to finish the book once I'm done with the series... WRONG hahaha
So, like you, I don't even feel the need to finish it anymore 😭😭
I'm all for DNFing, and I feel zero guilt over it. Most recently I DNF'd A Good Girl's Guide to Murder, which was super disappointing because I was on my library's waiting list for months, but it took me five days just to get to page 60, soooo...
I have a lot of soft DNFs. My life has been especially crazy lately, so there are tons of books I want to read but just can't. At times like these I just want fluffy, wholesome, fast-paced, and/or romance. My personal "pile of shame" probably has 20ish books. I'll get to them eventually. Or I won't. That's fine too.
Also did not like The Angels’s game (understatement). But the third book in the series is as good as Shadow of the Wind. So just skip 2 and move on to 3.
I never DNF a book once I've started it. I usually choose books that interest me. And even if I hated a book after I started it, I would finish it. I need to be more flexible!
Thank you! Gallant was so overhyped. Her adult stuff is so much better
With thrillers, I'm exhausted by plotlines focusing on death and murder and missing people. One without too much mortal mayhem that I really enjoyed is called 'The Woman Outside My Door'. It's about a kid and his imaginary friend... I wish I knew of more thrillers without murder, killing, etc.
I do generally count DNFs because I almost almost read AT LEAST 25% and I'm like, you know what, I put in the time and effort, lol. But yeah, if it's a couple of chapters, then no. I am mentally willing to DNF but I do struggle because I also always have hope that a book will get better lol.
the comments on your review for witcher are genuinely freighting. like how dare people not want to read books about women being violently assaulted over and over for no reason. the fact that books like that can still flourish is disgusting. and some of the comments defending it with their heart and souls need to be tipped off to the fbi because wow. i really appreciate your honesty and in depth reviews it saves so many of us soooo much time and money
I’ve had to block so many people because they were attacking other people and calling them names 🙄
I can’t help but feel like it proves my point when that’s the fans of a book
Ugh! I wish I would've DNFED Vita Nostra earlier. I got to 256 pages before I realized I hated the story.
I can’t do Neil gaimin. Can’t. I just keep dnfing. I have one more to try before I give up completely.
Can you formulate why? I am curious.
@@Morfeusm I read American Gods and hated it…..The ocean at the end of the lane was boring as hell….
i dnf books so fast, i feel like it's kind of a problem now 😭😭 i should stick with them a little longer i think
Haha it's so hard to decide sometimes!
I will literally DNF books within the first few pages 😂😅
@@wiktoriagrochola3256 SAME 😭
Man I still force myself to finish books that I’m hating, I think I hate myself. I’m going to start a channel Emily, you inspired me (I’m eclectic, but I read waaaaaaaaaaaaay more romance than you lol)
Romance is really popular!
I probably DNF too soon. A book I wish I had DNF’d was The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle.
Maybe instead of reading the Shadow of the wind series you can try reading Marina from the same author. The sexism is less pronounced mainly because it is meant to be a YA. Same writing style, more weird shit happening.
I'll check if my library has it!
It's great you can put them down 😆. I can't, but I will try. But I did like The Angel's Game. The first 3 books were good, the last one was too long and I was already sick of that writer. I read all his books.
I liked The Shadow of The Wind, and thought about continuing on with the series (though I'm not in a hurry). It sounds to me like what you're talking about is a cultural thing. I'm married to a Greek man (who grew up in Greece) and he told me there's social pressure on young men (once they're of age) to get their first sexual experience with sex workers so they'll better perform in bed later on in life. His own uncle tried to influence him in that way, but he never wanted to do it as it didn't align with his values. However, he knows people who did it. Maybe it's similar in Spain. I really don't know why the author would include that in the plot though, and I totally get not wanting to read about that (I remember feeling the same when I started A Clash of Kings by G. R. R. Martin and the very beginning dealt with Tyrion Lannister's relationship with a prostitute - I was 18 so it's been almost 10 years - looking back now as an adult, sexualized scenes in the first book with Daenerys, who was only 14 year-old, make me very uncomfortable, and so I'm glad I DNFed that second book at the time).
I also DNFed Crime & Punishment. Those eternal internal monologues were painful to read. I just hated being in this character's head. 🤷
I never feared DNFing books, but I now do it more easily just because I know my tastes much better than I did before. That's the perks of having lived a little longer. ☺️ Often, I'll persevere if it's a classic (just because I want to be part of the conversation), but my limit is a 100 pages. If I can't even get to that number, that's a very bad sign indeed. 😅
I think I DNFed a book once . Should I hop on that trend 🤭
I couldn't get through The Shining. The whole first half of the book is just character setup, and I get so bored waiting for the story to start
EXACTLY! Barely anything happens and knowing how SK tends to end his books (badly lol) I couldn't finish it!
The shadow of the wind is one of my favorite books ever! But book 2 SUCKS, I think you’re going to hate it 🙌🏻 I had to finish it because it was part of my book club and I regretted, it gets worst and worst and in the end doesn’t make any sense.
So one of the former co creators of the show got a bunch of hate online because he said a lot of the writers hated the books and games. I don’t know for sure but I could imagine sexism could be part of the reason for that
Do you mean Henry Cavill? I feel like I’ve read he said something like that. To be honest I don’t take him seriously after his dating history or comments about “Me Too”.
You are absolutely 100% right about the first Witcher book, the second is just as bad. They do get significantly better after that but it's still not worth it.
I think the very first book that I will DNF is being written right now
