Is there any psychological treatment that can change a narcissist behaviour? Why are narcissists so oblivious to their behaviour and faults when everyone around them can clearly see the narcissist is patently blind to their own emotional shortcomings?

There is no cure for Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
This condition is caused by several forms of abuse in early childhood.
      Thus creates a “False Self”.
Once the false self is formed, that psychological “injunction” is permanent.
The very best that can be achieved is that the narcissist (through therapy) becomes self aware.
      This only mitigates the behaviour.
Under any type of stress the narcissist suffers “Emotional Regression”.
This often leads to the extreme emotional disregulation and abhorrent behaviour that is the defining symptoms of the disorder.
I repeat- there is not a single recorded case of NPD being cured.
There are many dyadic, serious and complex co-morbidities.
For example, NPD is often accompanied by particularly destructive forms of perfectionism, post traumatic OCD, compulsive lying, and Alexithemia (which is responsible for the narcissists sexless relationships.)
All or some of the above psychometrics are present in %75 or High functioning autism.
Asperger’s Syndrome patients are particularly susceptible to NPD.
Intimate partners will suffer physically, mentally and spiritually if living with NPD partners.
The abuse suffered at the hands of NPD individuals leads to the debilitating mental health condition called “Cassandra affective deprivation disorder” which can take years of therapy to heal.
NPD is a condition that is on a “Continuum”
That is, the condition becomes worse with age.
This happens in ALL CASES of NPD.
THERE IS NO HOPE WHATSOEVER THAT THEY WILL CHANGE.
Take the children if you have them, make a plan to leave IN SECRET.
Leave when the narcissist is not there.
No cost is too great to remove them from your life.
      Your pain is their healing.
      Your crucifixion, their resurrection.
      Run.
