This a great comment but we don't talk about this guy 👀 (No, no, no)
It's like Luisa has found her moment of relaxation after the final of the movie. Congratulations on this outstanding performance.
I commented !!!!
it makes me feel lke it's how she sings it when she's alone w the donkeys and doesnt feel to put on the hard exterior for anyone. she sounds so exhausted and defeated and close to tears esp the first verse.
Honestly, Surface Pressure and What else can I do
Were my favorites
Disney really needs to make more roles and songs like this for altos.
Yes, not all sopranos should be hyped
@@mashajacaranda807 Yes, a villain role inspired by a drag queen. But I mean more in general, not one every 30 years or so lol.
@@mashajacaranda807 I know that, it's not a problem, but my point is that there are women with naturally lower voices, not just drag queens. Times change, there's no reason operas, disney, and others can't change the "rules".
@@youngheejin no need to bring down sopranos to uplift altos, all are good
I'm pretty sure Isabela's song from Encanto ("What Else Can I Do") is also an alto song! (Cover on my channel and I'm an alto 😄)
I'm a 33 year old trucker and I look the stereotype. This is secretly one of my favorite songs. It makes me cry and it makes me wish I could give you a hug. Btw I absolutely adore your look and your voice.
Love this ☺️
Hey ! I AM SENDING YOU A BIG HUGE HUG TOO!!
I'm 33 too. I'm singing along as well. ❤ Love this song
Comments like these are why I pay my internet bill.
Lol, same. My wife makes fun of me because I love dumping the Disney songs in the car even when the kids are not with us.
I wish they designed the character more like Jessica though because she fits what they were going for and she's super pretty.
Literally every time you sing the jazz version.. there are LITERALLY… no cracks… no breaks… no mistakes…. Like….. effortless alto… literally NO pressure your voice sounds SO free and controlled man…. Jesus
Clever Comment🤣
I see what you did there 😏
😂 😂 😂
Its terrible lol you deaf
She got a ton of notes wrong though...pretty anazing how the movie got someone to sing it without intonation errors, unless if they autotuned it.
So much better than the butchered We Don't Talk about Bruno on the Oscar
Also 100% better than the butchered rendition by Amanda Palmer 😬🙈
@@Teaieal EXACTLY
LITERALLY
EXACTLY
To be fair: Anyone of the real cast breathing>>>>>>>>>> That horrible Oscars rendition of WDTAB
I love how deep her voice sounds but its so soothing to the ears.. Not everyone could sing a song with deep tone
It's people like her that have helped me to embrace my own voice. I'm an afab person, and have a fairly deep voice as far as women go. I used to always pitch it up to match ever other woman's more. But the more I see women with beautifully rich, deeper voices, the more I'm coming to embrace my own. I can't get enough of it
frrr
@@Solace6428 deeper voices are super under appreciated!! i hope you come to love your voice because your differences are what make you, you :)
Cher
So true
Honestly Jessica Darrow really looks like a 20s jazz singer. Cool!
totally agree
Totally! But a 20s jazz singer that is free to be real and drip drip drip that water! 💧
I’ve been to jazz club, they typically look the part. She’s 🔥 though
In a way she sort of is a 20s jazz singer. It is 2022 after all.
We are in the the 20's lol.... again! 😉
I appreciate that they included the angle where you can see the drummer thinking to himself "damn, she's good" at about 2:40
Same
Love that he also can’t help but keep the beat with his head even while he’s not playing.
I love it, so wholesome
"... and I'm getting paid to be here, too" :-)
I noticed the piano player who seemed to be staring pretty hard
Lol
It's amazing how well she carries the whole song without any bells and whistles, just her voice and the support of a single instrument (played by another amazing musician).
Surface Pressure went from an upbeat and hyper song to a beautiful 90’s jazz song-
Edit: ty for the likes everyone-
I prefer the the jazz version but both are so amazing. She is amazing!
Hey honey. I love this artist too. Doesn’t need the mix board to back her up. Nice to hear her lyrics more clearly, holding her own with bare bones accompaniment.
Am I crazy or is she just freaking gorgeous? I adore her character in Encanto, and hearing an alto voice like hers is such a treat - then you look at her and it's like, DAMN.
Ok she rocks that short so so well and is truly imbued with "the swag" 😂
100% agree! She is actually my favorite character in the whole movie. Proud of Disney for branching out a little.
Personally I'd pass but the song is good. I give her a 5 out of 10
No, it's just you, you're the only one that finds an obviously attractive woman attractive
What Does Alto Mean?
This is amazing. They should have performed this one at the Oscar’s 😪
Actual Oscar´s are overrated now. You will find masterpieces in small places
to get slapped by will smith i dont think so
@@tiab9918 would be more enjoyable than the "performance" of Bruno
Yes I came to say this. That Oscar performance of Encanto was 🗑️.
“Y’all, drip, drip, drip” literally almost broke my iPhone from screaming “yaaasss and punching the air”.
I love how you are also interacting with the audience. Singing directly to specific members, pointing at them ans smiling as they applaud, and taking as much positive energy back from them as you gave in the song. This wasn't just a great job as a singer, this was a great job as a performer.
Such an incredible alto voice. So velvety too.
She has a Mel Torme velvet smoothness.
What Does Alto Mean?
@@fabian5813 alto is a term to describe a lower fem. presenting voice (often used in choir and music in general) ^^
Yes I’m a grown woman and I squealed when I saw the title of this video ….
I’ve been a “Luisa” most of my life … dang it I’m tired 😫
I'm both Luisa andIsabela. I have to hold everything up, but my sister thinks I'm so perfect and everything has always been handed to me. But in actually I had to be perfect because she was such a screw up and I couldn't put more pressure on the family and now that I'm older I have to do all the things. I take care of my family and my mother and it's like pulling teeth to get my sister to help at all. It's annoying!
@@AshesPashes if there’s any comment I can relate to it’s this
@@AshesPashes oh wow! I feel with you so much!! This is my life as well, I give my all to my family and my sister does nothing and things I'm so perfect and that I just know how to do things out of thin air. She does not understand how long it took me to do things right, how much effort it takes. She doesnt care, and decides to just not do anything. For context, she's 20 doesn't have a job, wont even go to the grocery shop on her own, while I at the age of 14 was already cooking dinner for a family of 6 people and cleaning the whole house by myself as both our parents were full time working till 8 pm...
This was so beautiful, I had no intention of finishing the whole thing but I was instantly mesmerized by her voice!
omg same
Ok, this is definitely my fav version - I think the original fits the character/plot and the disney archetype, but this fits the voice way better!
Poster child for self-control is the drummer! I don't know how he doesn't join in with a little hi-hat!
Got to get in touch with Postmodern Jukebox and flesh this one out.
YES.
Yes indeed.
100%
Absolutely
Somehow both a completely different song, and yet also exactly the same. A PHENOMENAL performance
She should perform poor unfortunate souls. She got the perfect tone and range for it. 😍
Why isn't this pinned? ☝️
I'm so thankful to encanto for exposing me to you, I never would have discovered such talent but now I'm hooooooked. The voice, the vibe, the look, some people just emit swagger and uuugh the richness of your voice byeee
I agree! I'm such a huge fan now.
I know you didn't expect to be an anthem, but honestly you stood up and spoke for us. You defined our struggle and we love you. Mom of a child with severe disabilities and you made me feel powerful and strong. Thank you so much. You made me believe I could survive.
Playback speed of 1.25x.... just try it
Yeahhhhh
I never felt so attracted to someone's voice 😂, such a amazing talented person.
As the eldest of 6 sisters and a brother, this song hit my soul HARD. Literally brought tears to my eyes.
The songs lyrics are pure Genius, the timing of its scene in the movie balances the entire movie, It's the one song that shows the whole strife of the family and at that moment when Luisa is done singing and Mirabel rushes in for the hug the audience gets to see and feel the theme brought together from beginning to end. I 've heard it performed in the Jazz version several times and JD is amazing, But I would love to see her perform it in other styles.
I like that she sings with very light music so that it doesn't drown her out, and the backing tracks don't overwhelm her amazing voice.
Kudos to all big bros and sis all around the world who handled their own pressure. Cheers!
Btw i loved this version better than the original song
*this song is every Asian's family issue* jk
She pulls off the sound and vibe of an old jazz singer so well and, might I say, she looks absolutely gorgeous. ❤️
That's was beautiful I got chills love how she can switch that song up not sure if I'm more in love with this version or the original but they are both dope ❤️❤️❤️
Her voice is so unique. The casting of this movie is so diverse, yet on point.
So good!!! Will never get tired of this song.
I like it so much better than we don’t talk about Bruno. It was one of the only things I liked about the movie
This version brought tears to my eyes it was so beautiful. Love it.
K 💀
This amazing take on “Surface Pressure” gives off an inspirationally cool vibe.
Wow I didn't think she looked like this! Pictured her more like the actual Luisa because of the strong voice!
Have never clicked on something so quickly. Love her voice
Look mom no autotune!
I LOVE THIS SONG.😫😫🤩🤩🥳🥳Thanks for making my day.
Come here after that We don't talk about Bruno Oscar award 2022 performance, cause I'm disappointed.
She's just so sweet and her voice is so unique
Wow. Saw the Xmas version too. Someone just give her a full slate of songs to do, what an amazing cabaret performer!
I love the bounce in the jazz version
Why do Americans audiences insist on making themselves louder than the performer? Can’t stand all the whooping and “ow”inf all through the performance.
the confidence, the delivery, the freedom, the embodiment of character, ugh just amazing omg
I LOVED WHEN SHE DID THIS
FOR CHRISTMAS
After hearing tht voice I'm shocked I didn't know the name long ago. Amazing.
She needs to work on her breathing in the mic, gets annoyinh
I would give Damn near anything to see a mash-up collaboration with Puddles Pity Party for an Under (Surface) Pressure.
Is she drunk?
I’m starting The Church of Jessica Darrow - who’s joining?
Me
I need this version to be on Spotify!!!! My Godness what a performance 🔥🔥🔥
She really has the perfect voice to play Luisa. She's got a deeper voice for a female which you'd expect for a hulking musclebound girl like Luisa lol. But whet she hits those high notes, you remember she's still female.
0:12 drink that water yeah that man’s iconic line
This was awesome! I just can't stop clapping! 👏🏽💖
Your voice is truly incredible Jessica! I really like how this version is fully focussed on your voice and it is amazing how you carry this song with your vocals. Truly incredible!
Your voice is amazing! This is a great song but I am happy to listen to you sing anything. I'm pretty sure a nursery rhyme would sound great if you sang it.
This was already my favorite song on the soundtrack for the meaning behind it, but this version? I cried. Your voice and tone, it's hauntingly beautiful. Haunting in a very, very good way. I felt this version to the depths of my soul.
Wow I felt that in my Soul! Whooo!! Can we get a clean record of this no audience sound like the Christmas video! 🥰🤙🏼
Of course amazing singing, but gotta comment that the bass is so good in this version. Even hearing a couple of chords in there.
whenever i hear the word "jazzify" all I think is of a certain national anthem performance that now has its own book XD
The Oscars deserved this song !
we got a water fan in the crowd!
It’s not as good as y’all make it out to be lmao still my favorite song off encanto, I’ll stick to the movie
Sorry but that was painful and out of tune, cringey and really strained. Should have changed to a lower key☹️ (why are they cheering /clapping?) Sorry don’t mean to be rude, but she should play back that performance, she wouldn’t be pleased. She’s very pretty though!
I wonder though because in the beginning verse, she seemed to be at the very lowest point of her range - so I’m not sure she could do a lower key. She just needs to work on reaching a few of those notes because if they weren’t flat, this would’ve been amazing
This wasn't painful and she didn't lost the tune. It's not her best cover but you are overreacting
Why do I get major Lorelei vibes from Gilmore girls from you?
She's really good and the song is just amazing 👏🏻😍
I don't think we are ever going to hear her sing the original version live because it has autotune and was edited. This is still cool though.
What an amazing singer - there is so much character, emotion, and so much extra story-telling in her tone and how she performs. Exceptional.
She's amazing God bless you Jessica darrow
I love that raw jazzy sound.
That song is very difficult song to sing because it changes keys like 3 times and there's so many different intervals that change in the song.
The song nearly goes completely up and down the entire scale.
It's really easy to mess up.
Believe me I've tried.
It takes a very strong singer as well as a very skilled one.
What's amazing is she's literally only 27 years old and that voice make her sound so mature.
Jessica Darrow is such a beautiful and gifted woman!
the little vibrato? dip? thing she does is beautifully unique
I love this version so much, beautiful 💜
The girl can SING!
No other choice but to listen to this version every day from now on. ¡Excelente energía y voz! 👏👏👏❤
been fangirling since I found out she's the person behind Luisa's character.
I've been under a lot of pressure lately without even knowing it. This live, Jazzified version of Surface Pressure helped me realize it and let it go. 💖
I truly hate audiences that can't stfu when masterpieces are being sung. They even started clapping
It’s a different culture, there’s more give and take, and it’s a joyful experience.
Go to a black church, you’ll see.
People express appreciation in different ways, there isn’t a right way to enjoy music.
Seems like you have a lot of expectations and put of a lot on pressure on the people around you to put pressure on themselves the way you do.🤷🏼♀️
Complete opposite, I love it when the audience are vibing with the artist.
@@chghfd4946 I like it in a big stadium. But in a small setting starting to scream seems to me like you are starved of attention. There is even someone who starts singing with her at some point.
@@margicates553 whats a different culture? Everyone everywhere does this and In my eyes its because you need to let yourself be the center of attention. At least in the eyes of the artist. A black Church isn't in any comparable with this. There the whole point is audience participation
Can I just say that she is gorgeous and has a wonderful voice? I relate this song as the one from the Donkeys and can't think of anything but of these cute animals dancing on the video lol
Oh my gosh me too!!! Those donkeys were gettin' it!!!
@@cynchampion2714 I kept that dance in my head somehow....🤣
@@lady_pt During that last scene of the song, the donkeys are ALL I SEE now...🤣
Hot damn i got chills at the bridge. hat was spectacular! i think i like this version better than the movie's
Double bassist is incredible. Wonderful
I’m obsessed with this Jazz version. I feel like we are really able to appreciate how amazing her voice is here. I’m obsessed.
Luiza is my favourite character from the movie and her song is my favourite too. This version is just 👌.
I don't talk about Bruno.
I gained so, SO much more respect for her as an actress when I heard her in this role and unbelievable singing
Jessica, you are incredible! Luisa is my spirit sister. I had no idea that you yourself were so TINY! Such a powerful and playful and brilliant voice!
Ella es muy buena.. muchos gritos de la gente... dejen que cante y escúchenla. La desconcentraban no la dejaban escuchar al.instrumento y perdía la línea melódica..más respeto por el artista por favor
I haven't stopped smiling since I started this video, I absolutely loveeee this song & your voice above all else involving Encanto. Girl you are a gem❤
I need her doing this with Scott Postmodern Jukebox 😍
What a vocalist! I don’t know if people
Realize how difficult singing this in such voice changes is
Guys, I feel like I'll be the only one, and I promise I'm not a troll or a hater. It's so off tune, I'm sorry, but it's SO off tune it fills up the side of my brain with frustration itching. And at the beginning of the song, it feels like she's singing way too low for her vocal range/or that her voice is super tired.
Please girl, with all the respect, please try to listen to the musicians who accompagny you so you sing on tune.
I also think it would have sounded better if she wasnt..far gone..I mean, I understand you, I'm not a hater, I love Disney's song but idk, maybe it sbecause she jazzed it??? I agree, it's a little off
Absolute perfection! 💜 Thank you so very much for sharing this with the world!
While Camilo & Dolores are having fun at American Idol, Mirabel brings Luisa to enjoy a quiet relaxing night at the jazz club.
I found you because of Encanto. But at the same time I feel so bad for you. You are an unbelievable vocalist. Your range and talent is mind blowing! I feel bad, because the song was so good you’ll be singing it forever because you made it ICONIC. That being said you made Disney history not only with a hit song but by vocalizing a strong female character no one will EVER forget! THANK YOU!
This is a great song. My favorite from Encanto. It represents the strong women from Colombia 🇨🇴 🙏❤️💪
And i thought I was in love with the movie version. Beautifully done Jessica...luv ur amazing voice!!❤❤💐💐
that was SO FUCKING AMAZING OH MY SFGHADFH
Isn't encanto for children? The adults are getting on more than anyone 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (I would too. It's just a happy observation).
This song makes me cry 70% of the time
This is so beautiful, greetings from Colombia
