Why that is is probably because of the lack of exposition; even to a VN reader, who knows what is going on, is going to be thrown off by that. The fight in the VN was half an hour long and quite dialogue heavy in its prelude which wouldn’t have worked in the movie format, but they cut out so many moments that it’s a completely different (and inferior) fight. The VN specifically draws attention to how Shirou and Kirei are two sides of the same coin as they were both empty and could only find fulfilment through one thing: the happiness and suffering of others respectively. While Shirou acknowledges that he actually likes Kirei because of their similarity, he also moves past his own starting point as he has a different purpose to live for now: the happiness of Sakura which is what gives him his second wind and ultimately allows him to survive. Kirei is also much more of a badass in the VN with how he moves too fast for Shirou to react properly such that he can only defend his head to not die immediately.
This video also isn’t just about the fight as we’re kinda taking out our frustrations about the adaptation with this as well, such as the really dumb decision of Ufotable cutting out Shirou and Illya’s famous “Die Lorelei” scene which causes movie Shirou and Illya to have a much shallower bond that I honestly cared very little about Illya’s sacrifice at the end of the movie rather than the emotional send off it was in the VN.
@@joushua4428 You know the guy you're referring to doesn't like this scene?
@@r.k845 Yeah I saw after looking further down the comments which is ironic I suppose
*Visible Disappointment*
