deflecting the writer's guild question with a rant about apple keyboards was a masterstroke
BlimeyJoe Ricky Gervais was bettet ! Have him host the Oscars
@@SuperOmnicronsj44 no
unless it's a honest thing and not a deflection.
BlimeyJoe what’s the issue with the guild thing?
deflect with comedy, genius.
He has to be the director with the best sense of humor.
Have you never listened to Kevin Smith?
i mean there are legitimate stand up comics and comedian actors who direct so idk
He's serious.. he wasn't laughing.
@@chrispatmore8944 Smith is the worst Director ever seen
@@miguelrivera5430 In your opinion. What is the criteria you base that statement on? Is it merely because his films don't appeal to you? He gets the performances he wants from his actors, and delivers fun films on relatively low budgets that more than make their investment back. I'm sure there are plenty of worse directors out there that don't fulfil either of those two basic requirements. His films are popular, if a little self indulgent, but always great fun, and even profound sometimes, such as Dogma. They're not art, they're entertainment.
Taika is literally incapable of being serious for more than two seconds i love it
Unless he's talking about Apple Keyboards.
Sean Struble yeah but that is a serious issue
Although he was serious about shoah fundation...
I think when he had to be serious he was very serious and honestly very wise. He is a model for sure.
He was pretty serious about the last two questions. The Shoah foundation and the question from the CBC reporter.
New Zealand sarcasm is on a whole different level from the rest of us. We really gotta step our game up to catch up with them.
I swear watching him is like watching all of my Male relations roasting the shit out of everyone 😂😂 gotta love kiwi humour
I'm English, so sarcasm is my native tongue. I've met a few people from New Zealand in my time and I've known people who have lived over there. What I've learned and heard from those experiences is that on many occasions they don't have much of a sense of humour at all and Kiwi's like Taika are very much the minority.
I was expecting them to be like us, but I was left really disappointed. Many of them were actually quite rude, rather than sarcastic. There wasn't a glint in their eye or a wink and a smile, it was straightforward blunt rudeness. Sour is a word that comes to mind.
@@-The-Golden-God- Well that's a shame. Thank you, sincerely, for breaking this perception for me.
elrapido5150 don’t listen to him. We are honestly all like Taika and I think the specific your looking for is MĀORI/Kiwi humour

"She already knew I was incapable of making a drama."
Haha, I'm dying
It was a nice self-deprecating deflection of the question. I still wonder about the book author though. She at least pioneered getting inside the head of a prepubescent Hitler youth. A courageous and overdue exploration.
I look at #ofmd now and would have to say that he is more than capable of doing drama (both as a director and an actor). Yes, with a comedic element, but that even elevated the dramatic aspect for me.
Taika really is a Jack of all trades.
@@neotdrum the thing is though, having watched both Jojo, and some of his older works like "Boy" and "Hunt for the Wilderpeople". he's a MASTER at making you cry, laugh and then cry again within 5 minutes - and there's two different types of crying within these minutes as well. so yeah, no wonder she said yes
“You don’t wanna go up there and say a bunch of people names, that’s just a waste of time” lmao I’m sure Renee Zelwegger would beg to differ
I agree with him, Renee's speech was so boring until she started saying things on unity. Say one or two names but like Renee listed like at least 15 !
@MrLoui13 this coming from someone who's familiar with Renee as a person and also an experienced actor thanks mistter loui thirteen
it was so hard to keep track of what she was saying, I zoned out. Then I heard Serena Williams... and I was like what?? where are we now? then she said something about firefighters? lmao
I know I just wanted to sleep but she went on and on...
Renee played Judy and didn't even mentioned her daughter... LIZA FUCKING MINELLI.
I think they were not very happy about that movie. You can drop as many names as you want, but if it's shady.... it's shady

@@SuperOmnicronsj44 I loved The Joker, too. Great film and great performance by Joaquin Phoenix. Dakota Filer “what we do in the shadows” was hilarious
The only time I seen him act outside of his own movies was in Green Lantern as Ryan Reynolds' best friend, and we watched it just to see him because it is funny to see a Kiwi in a Hollywood film as we know most of us in New Zealand aren't particularly serious people, so to see one of us act just makes them look ridiculous lol. The part in particular of that film was when Ryan first shows him the suit, and Taika's reaction is like Woahhhw. We were instantly laughing, like; not bad, I guess he's all Hollywood now, hahahaha.

I can’t believe Taika is the first indigenous person to win an Oscar. I honestly thought something like this already happened a long time ago.
how about Bong Joon-ho ? The Koreans are the indigenous people of Korea . I guess this depends on who you count as indigenous.
Wolfinator234
I think it’s along the lines of Indigenous people from a colonized nation. So that would include Native Americans, Maori, Australian Aboriginals, the Sami from Scandinavia, and the Ainu from Japan.
There probably haven't been too many indigenous persons who work as directors yet, or even in the movie industry. Hopefully Taika is paving the way for them.

This was not my favorite film of the year BUT it was one of the few that I watched more than once. It had that magical quality that reminds me of films like Matilda. Aside from the rating due to the language...it could be a childhood classic. It took a very delicate topic and made it palatable even for children without pandering to their age group. The boy who played JoJo was fantastic, and the director was phenomenal as the Hitler imaginary friend. So campy, hilarious, but even sinister at times. Scarlett Johansson is a show-stopper in everything she does. She is like the Meg Ryan of modern film in that the screen naturally lightens up when she’s on screen. She is one of the most relatable and comforting faces to see in any film. I love everything she does. This film gives you a warm cozy feeling throughout, and the boy truly made this film. He carried this with his gentle handling of the hard emotional points he had to navigate. Hits you right in the feels. I adore this film, and it’s added to my collection.
I love that man so much
I'm so glad he won this. What he did with that book was pretty amazing. He basically took the synopsis, dropped major characters, added his own characters and then changed the tone to a comedy with a more direct ending. It was no small task.

I have to point out a slight inaccuracy at 9:02 ; after the war many Nazi’s were tried but not prosecuted. A lot of them were not even tried. It’s well known that a lot of the older German judges presiding over these cases were Nazi’s themselves, or at very least Nazi sympathisers. Anyway, as a Kiwi could not be more proud of this guy, GO TAIKA!
Isaiah T Yeah very true, I'm sure Taika did know that but he was making what he was gonna say up on the spot so ye
I think he meant it more like, if you declared yourself a nazi back then, you got a lot of looks and scrutiny, you kinda had to hold your head down and act like it wasn't a big deal what you did to basically have the sympathizing judges be like "yeah I don't see any problem". But nowadays, people can just declare themselves nazis or breathe hate speech and people openly and freely rally around them. I think that was more the discord he was trying to paint a picture of.
My god, you people are brainwashed beyond recognition
