Taika Waititi is a BOSS director. It's refreshing that with as much success as he's had, he doesn't take himself or the industry seriously, unlike most! The films he's made have that dry, self deprecating style of humour that is pretty unique to us kiwis. Boy is my favourite film of his, hilarious but sad also. Looking forward to seeing Jojo Rabbit
Just watched Boy - what a great film. He has such a knack for telling a story that is silly, touching and heartbreaking all at the same time. Very dynamic, and a breath of fresh air.
The controversy was he played "Hitler" the marketing was all about him playing Hitler and a kid being a Nazi. Watch the movie and hes playing a childs imaginary friend
i really did like sam and alfies characters in this movie. They knew the war was over and they were just gonna let it all out. His uniform at the end had me laughing my ass off. Also sam was exceptional in this movie. His part was more important than let on.
Maybe it was a weird reaction to have, but when I saw Captain K and Alfie at the end in their uniforms, it really connected with me, and I actually almost cried. I don’t know, it was just such a crazy moment of people living their lives despite being in an oppressive society, and I think the fact that they were both gay (probably) just made it more powerful.
I agree. It was the next day that Captain K's story really hit me: being gay and not having the courage to stand up to the system he was trapped in, instead drinking til he didn't give a f#*k. My heart went out to him. I think he is my favourite character in the movie.
@@jehjey7626 my friend pointed out a couple things at the end which really got to me (I'm not sure if they're accurate as I didn't see for myself) but apparently captain K was holding finkle's cape after they were captured, meaning he had probably died. Apparently the cape also had pink triangles on it which is really clever symbolism.

I would love for Taika to explain deeper Sam and Alfie's relationship in the film knowing they were based on real man during the war. I felt like it was superficially suggested, but we could see and feel what really went on with them, they barely had lines but they felt like the heroes for Jojo for a reason, I just know bringing light to their story would mean so much to a lot of people who can relate to them

Adapted? It was inspired by a book but not based on it. The characters and circumstances are different
