- JoJo Rabbit: Scarlett Johansson, Thomasin McKenzie & Roman Griffin Davis Interview
With writer-director Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit now playing in limited release, I recently sat down with Scarlett Johansson, Thomasin McKenzie and Roman Griffin Davis for an exclusive interview. As you’ve probably heard me say a number of times, Jojo Rabbit is one of my favorite films of the year and Waititi has written and directed a fantastic anti-hate satire set in Nazi Germany. While I figured he would craft something special, Jojo Rabbit was well above my lofty expectations and many others had the same opinion as it won the coveted People’s Choice Award at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival against some serious competition.
If you haven’t seen the trailers, Jojo Rabbit follows a lonely 10-year-old boy Jojo (Griffin Davis) in Nazi Germany whose imaginary best friend Adolf Hitler (Waititi) eggs him on. But Jojo’s loyalties and beliefs are tested when he discovers that his mother (Johansson) is hiding a young Jewish girl (McKenzie) in their attic. The film also stars Rebel Wilson, Sam Rockwell, Stephen Merchant and Alfie Allen.
During my interview with Scarlett Johansson, Thomasin McKenzie and Roman Griffin Davis, they talked about their reaction to reading the script for the first time, how it’s important to constantly remind people what really happened during WW2, if Stephen Merchant ever tried to get them to break during takes, what it was like collaborating with Taika Waititi on set, and more.

The adoring way Scarlett and Thomasin look at Roman when he’s gushing about the script makes my heart happy
i agree so much . The innocence and honesty shines through . Adoring is such a good description . If you want to see something these Kiwis did that will steal your heart check out Flight Of The Conchords , help the kids . Absolutely adorable
This film shows a totally different side to Scarlet Johansson I had never seen before. She's gone way up in my books after seeing this.
She's a legitimately great actress
Scarlett Johansson has been killing it. I've seen her in so many different roles lately and she does them all so well.
She's honestly a good actress, it's a shame because she's overlooked mostly for her character of Black Widow in the MCU, even tho personally I feel like the character sucks, she carries it very well and I hope she gets more profound roles in the movie industry.
She’s died twice now and has gotten divorced she’s not doing great
@@therockdwarfmockdwarf1476 yep poor woman
I totally agree, definitely my favorite actress right now
have you guys seen under the skin? she's great there too
I love how Scarlett let the kids speak first without interfering them, also her aura as a mother surely comes out, 5:38 look at here I mean she's so peaceful, I love her in every role she played, I think I just love her personality
I hope Roman and Thomasin get more acting roles in the future because they were really good in this movie. Also can someone please tell me what Thomasin's accent was
Eugeniusz Karpiec thanks
New Zealand. The German accents where really goofy whether they where English or Kiwi or American.
Kiwi accent
kiwi/new zealand, the amount of people that have said I have a kiwi accent is hailrious
Have you seen Last Night in Soho, just came out. Really good movie
After watching Jojo rabbit released last week, I am bingewatching all the interviews
my god how old is that kid. I am 30 and I can't put my feelings into words like he does

When I watched Nanny Diaries, I wished Scarlett to be my nanny. Then in Avengers, I dreamt of her being my girlfriend. But Jojo Rabbit has changed my mind, I want her to be my mum. Jeez she’s so amazing on this movie.
Thats a really weird fantasy; she was your nanny, she turned into your girlfriend, and then you discovered she was your mom
Emiliano Hernández it’s a good thing though it means her acting is convincing and her characters are very likeable.
@@redlizerad8268 i know i was just messing around, she's one of the best actresses at the time
Big facts

Thomasin McKenzie looks like Rooney Mara with this angle
5:48 😂😂 so in sync
Thomasin McKenzie wow, she amazes me so much.
Omg I hope they bring out the screenplay in a book
the movie was based off a book
why is this interview guy asking about the war crimes of the ww2 infront of a 13 year old. Respect to Scarlett for taking that question and answering it herself
@@Revolution_Son No they do not teach about war crimes at 13, or atleast not in the wetsern world. Those subjects are thaught at 10th grade(MSA,GCSE and america) plus what type of answer is the due expecting from such a young child about those topics.
@@halbherrdominik1810 I live in Michigan, we were taught all about fascism and the Holocaust in 7th grade, even pictures of victims.
@@halbherrdominik1810 I'm from England and they taught us about the holocaust and WW2 as young as year three (7-8 years old) I remember looking at in depth photos in year six (ten years old), he would've known about it at his age.

I watched this movie yesterday because Scarlett is in it, and I loved it.. It reminded me of Life is beautiful (Roberto Benigni).. they both make you laugh out loud and then cry like children, and they both represent parents who want to protect their children in a world where the war and the holocaust are very much real, from 2 different perspective, but still ... I really appreciate the way this 2 young actors speak and are able to put their thoughts into words
I probably should not admit it because I am italian but I prefer Jojo Rabbit over La Vita è Bella. I find it to be a better comedy, more belieavable, and at the very least Taika is vague about the location, so he can get away with potential historical inaccuracies. Benigni's movie is set in Auschwitz, but in the end you see that is being liberated by the USA army, which didn't happen.
this child is going to rule Hollywood one day
Love Thomasin voice 😍 She's so pretty 😍
Scarlett was the reason why I wanted to watch Jo Jo Rabbit, and about Roman, he looks like the kid from German film "The tin drum", don't you think?
Imagine sitting next to Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett is perfect
McKenzie is so beautiful owh my god.
Just finished watching this and it’s ever more resonant considering the recent events with Russia and unfortunately what they said about it being a warning not to let such atrocities take place again seems not to have rung as true as we would’ve hoped.
Thomasin is so adorable 🤤🤗🥰😆😍😍😍
If I were the boy I wouldn't mind sitting inbetween Scarlett and Thomasin
Leak that script 🙏
I struggle to read because of my dyslexia
You can do it
Matt Protheroe you can over come it!
Hey that's my surname
This is my favorite movie!! I've watched it over and over again.
The kid's got eyes like Buster Keaton, really really expressive
I swear thomasin is going to be so big
Seriously, can they just be a nuclear family in real life?
I guess this was in my recommended videos cause I’ve been watching Interviews with Thomasin for Last Night in Soho
I became fan of thomaian and roman from this movie
It’s like two mums and their son
they all have different accents
this movie broke my heart but was so so good
What a trio? - ❤
A very funny film. Totally un-pc but yes!
I think people need to bear in mind that this was not the only genocide in history, there have been many throughout the ages and it's also not the only genocide of white people (because really that's why it's so highlighted as a genocide, as it happened in a white Western country). Even England has engaged in genocide as recently as the 1800's. 1 million Irish in the 1840's potato famine and 1 million Indians in South India in famine of the 1860's. Both were Queen Victoria's fault. She had the money to help, but refused re wanting to cull poor people the way we cull pest animals today. Yet, the UK won't say a bad word about her and twice now Judi Dench has portrayed her in a positive light in British films. Imagine if someone made a film showing Hitler in a positive light. Wake up UK. Queen V also stopped Turkey from sending funds to Ireland to help, it truly was genocide.
Fantastic movie Thomason in this movie so funny
