Want to move your Earth markers back to their original homes? Color a set of Earth Family Swatches with my kit: www.vanillaarts.com/shop/earth-swatch. The Scarf and Hat are part of the Cozy Copic Postcard set here: www.vanillaarts.com/shop/postcard-kit2-cozy
This might have been mentioned in another video...I purchased and downloaded the earth swatches. There were several typos in them. I just clicked the link above and the image shown on your site seems to have corrected the typos. If I download again from the link I received when I purchased, will it be the corrected copies? Thanks!
this is SUCH a good explanation of the concept of brown. It explains it in a way I’ve never thought about but it crystallizes so much. I’ve even recognized that a color I’ve called or thought of as brown is more of a muddy green or yellow or something, but I hadn’t thought about it enough to make all the connections you’re making here. No wonder every weird mix of colors turns brown. It’s more of an adjective or a modifier than a color, isn’t it? We just don’t have many words for the sort of shades that occupy that murky, often dark, desaturated but not desaturated enough to be gray, space, so brown is the umbrella we put it under.
This was a revelation! My brain knew that there was something fishy going on with brown, but I was too busy following the crowd to do any kind of actual research. Thank you for unmuddying (haha) this brown confusion for me.
Don't be hard on yourself. Your job is to color. Copic's job is to accurately represent their product and educate their customers. I love their markers but their marketing and outreach is awful.
I had a huge “lightbulb” moment when you talk about the mother ink having more and more solvent added to get lighter and lighter markers. It always felt a little off seeing Copic families listed light to dark - to my eyes and brain it feels WAY more logical to see the families starting with the mother ink. And your last remarks about storing E’s with their siblings totally makes sense! I’m off to rearrange markers now 😀
I'm the same way. I think some of us are hardwired to see things from a dark perspective. It's very hard for me to understand why people focus on highlights when I see shade so much more clearly. I guess the world would be boring if we all saw things the same way but from a teaching standpoint, I it's much easier to teach people to use dark values, then the lights come intuitively on their own.
Hooray!!! Please share if you rearrange your markers. I've already moved a couple E groups into open spaces I had near the R markers. I think it'll take some time to find a specific E on demand but overall, they're looking less brown and more red to me now.
This one looks like it’s going to be fun to color! Great info on ‘browns’. I often wonder how they come up with the name….Copics come from Japan, but I see Orange Pekoe tea color in this….do they have Orange Pekoe tea in Japan? Are they actually thinking of a different tea? Which one is it? Just my random thoughts on a Friday….lol
Okay, that's funny. I was listening to a podcast while coloring the other day and they mentioned that Orange Pekoe has nothing to do with the color orange. They said "Orange" is the top level of the grading system, like getting an A+. Named after the Dutch royal House of Orange. LOL. I just re-read that for typos. I'm such a geek.
I don't have infinite space for the archive. I'm keeping the last 12 months but I also remove anything Color Theory related when I write a new article explaining it better... so there are several April 23 missing already.

Excellent observations! Adjective, not proper noun is a perfect summary!

Wow! I see it. This is an amazing revelation. Thank you!

Most helpful information on copies I’ve seen in a few years.
Thank you, a very high compliment indeed! Thanks for commenting too.

Hi Amy, I'm a Vanilla Beans subscriber and I can't access Vanilla Beans from 2023. Are they still available? Thanks

LOL. I'd make a terrible attorney. You'd be in jail now.
