In Vietnam, don't judge the quality of the foods based on the look of the place. While a good argument can be made on cleanliness, some of the best tasting foods are found at places like this - and for a much cheaper price. Foods look good Tyler. Stay well and happy.
Chúc mừng năm mới. Glad to see your videos return. I met you and Trang at 102 about 5 months ago and you recommended you favourite Hot Toc which I went to and I concur. I hope '24 will be kind to you both and keep the videos coming. I too like both styles of banh xeo, yum yum!
Love the video... shrimp are sometimes consumed with the shell on. Vietnamese eat shrimp without having to remove the shell. There are a lot of vitamins and nutrients in the shell. Also if you prepare it properly the shell is not noticeable when consuming it. I personally love shrimp with the shell still on. YUM!!! :) Goes great with some Nuoc Mom baby... :)
I’ve had the banh xeo mini before, they’re good. Oh and funny tidbit. I know you ride motorbikes. But seeing you riding on the back of one. With your ex. I got a kick out of it. I’m a big guy too. I haven’t started riding on my own yet. So I’m 6 ft about 170lbs. Mai Vietnamese wife rides me around all the time. I’m glad I’m not the only one that does that lol. It’s good seeing you out man.
haha yeah I've done most of the driving since then on this trip but she knew the way to that restaurant and it was a bit far so she figured it would just be easier for her to drive. I drove us on the way back. I like the "Mai wife" usage. Definitely mai type of humor. Happy to be out and thanks for the comment and encouragement!
Ban Xeo was my favourite discovery in Ho Chi Minh after the famous egg coffee! I wish I'd had more time there before heading to KL. The north of Vietnam was amazing though, so I have no regrets. I did find Tet a little tricky to navigate in Hanoi given all the closures. Glad you guys had a good time
The reason why they leave the shell on the shrimps is it keeps the moisture, you're suppose to peel it while you eat...I'd eat the whole shell, head and tail :-)
interesting...peeling it always feels like a chore and prevents me from eating my ideal amount of shrimp per minute (SPM). For the sake of optimum SPM I too may just eat them with the shell
@ 27:20 - 27:30 trang is way off. Seems like she's only aware of where she's from and the southern part of vietnam. I guess she never visited the other central provinces of vietnam before. She did get one thing right although wasn't fully convinced herself but bình thuận does make this style of bánh căn as well. Im surprised they still do being so close to the south with it's influences. However, if trang look slightly northward on the vietnam map and next to ninh thuận there's khánh hoà, phú yên (my hood) and bình định we're known for this type of dishes especially my hood and bình định.
Phan Rang bánh xèo is very delicious. And I didn't know they served like that in Phan Rang, small pieces. I love Phan Rang bánh căn also. Very delicious! 😋
@@BigTimeBentley She probably learned English from a native English-speaking teacher rather than a Vietnamese teacher because Vietnamese teachers often have horrible accents that make their English difficult to understand.
Small, crispy, more fillings. Good style, just wish it was cooked in healthier oil. The BC is just another Banh Viet that I haven't tried... got to try it for myself. Sounds cakier/breadier. I wonder what it'd be like to stay in Phan Rang
Your Vietnamese is getting better Bentley, glad to see you and your girl friend enjoying the Tet holiday ❤❤👍👍
I hope You guys still are friends for ever 🥰🌹🌹🌹🫶🫶🫶🫶thank you so much and Trang for sharing 👍🙏🍀🍀🍀❤❤❤❤❤

@@HTP-zy2sv cheers! Glad you like it
She doesn't look too happy. Maybe I'm wrong. But I'm pretty good at reading people. Love your videos my friend, honest and to the point.

9:05, signature move: Oh yeah, we do remember. I think you have better chance at getting away with doing that than others. Loved that.
Bánh căn and bánh xèo xứ nẫu style my favourite. I miss it so much

Happy New year Tyler, you speak Vietnamese very well. I am glad to see you making videos again ❤
Happy new year! thank you
Your gf speaks excellent English! Very unpressed with her vocabularies and she has a very light accent.

yeah I can see where that would be tricky...egg coffee is surprisingly good...did you try out the salted coffee (ca phe muoi)?
Một ô bánh cang = like a birds nest 🪹 ?
Một ô bánh mì = 1 loaf of bread 🥖 !
Your girl friend is lovely cute girl .. she also a character I guess smart and tough cookie lol

No worries Tyler, guy like you won't be single for long! No doubt !!!
Your girlfriend is smart its better when you have someone helping you with the language
Are you guys back together? Is your girlfriend from the U.S? Her English is really good.
*_Chào Big Time Bentley_* !

yeah I prefer the smaller ones...they're easier to eat and they have more crunchy parts
Trang's English so good, did she study abroad ?
no she just studied at normal Vietnamese schools in Vietnam...she's very sharp and good and picking up languages. she's learning Mandarin now

give BC a try I'd be interested to hear what you think of the comparison between that and the BX
That's a lot of food for $5 wow.
Yea definitely a good feast for the price
Yo bros where's Anthony Bourdain aka bill dad!
he's back in LA
The Banh Xeo look like crunchy Tacos. Does anyone eat them with their hands? I think it would be easier to eat and dip. Asking for a friend 😀
I'm definitely prone to just using my hands sometimes...it's just easier lol but I think people do see it as a bit more tactful to use your chopsticks

Don't forget banh beo Mu Man
what's that? I don't think I've seen or had that before

I am Vietnamese and i am not a big fan of mắm nêm either.
yeah I haven't developed a taste for it yet...I used to really dislike mam tom as well, but I will add a dash of it to a bowl of bun rieu these days
