100% fault with the tenants. The landlords should sue for their Airbnb profits

Yes. A civil suit for blatantly violating their lease. They can get more than the Airbnb profits since they claim they haven't even received the contractual monthly rents. Bet these tenets go into hiding.

The landlord is going to need a lawyer, and to pay their mortgage, during an eviction where the “guests” aren’t paying.. It’s a pandemic so that is going to be a tedious process. And then they will need a lawyer to sue to recoup legal fees and lost rental income. They’ll be in court for years. I hope they have a financial cushion. This is awful.

This should also be terrifying to those of us that use Airbnb to rent a place to stay! Can you imagine renting an Airbnb out and then have the owner come yell at you and say who are you, I don't know you? I thought Airbnb would have verified their listings are from OWNERS only.

Ok so what really happened here was the owners of the house rented out their home to a couple. That couple had plans to turn the house into a cash-making Airbnb enterprise. Then another couple came along through AirBNB and decided to move in and not leave during the pandemic. So basically a new couple of scammers were trying to scam a couple that was already scamming the owners. So now the owners are screwed dealing with these strangers that got into their home from AirBNB and have no intention of leaving.

Even a rogue construction crew that "got the wrong house" could help by taking out the doors, windows, and maybe even capping the water line somewhere (I have construction experience and easily 98% of regular people these days don't know how to turn their water on and off, especially all the way from the street connection). They'll be gone soon enough and the owners won't face any fines because they're just having repairs done. Absolutely!! Although I've used Airbnb extensively, myself, while traveling and it's been a Godsend for me, for travel, I totally agree with you!! Airbnb has caused some of the worst problems!! This disgusting "wannabe hotel organization" should be taken to task and prosecuted!!
They have caused numerous issues from causing the housing market to be used as a "commodity" and consequently causing the prices of homes to skyrocket and become unaffordable for ordinary Americans, to ruining neighborhoods with transients coming and going at all times, crowding streets with cars, noise issues ...etc. etc.
The original point of Airbnb was actually not a bad idea. It was supposed to bring the original _"bed and breakfast"_ concept into the 21st century, which is perfectly fine by me, and I'm sure would not have caused much mayhem. So someone who owns *_AND LIVES_* in their home, wanting to host a couple rooms in their house is perfectly fine!
The problem is many have taken advantage of this scheme and turned it into a de facto "hotel business" buying up several houses *_for the sole purpose of running Airbnb "hotels"._* This should be made ILLEGAL, and people running these unlicenses, and therefore illegal" hotel chains" should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law!

I was going "Man! that feels great! serves you right!" Typically, I'm not the type to rejoice over peoples misfortune, but in this case I believe it was richly deserved!!
Honestly, I hope they lose the shirt off their backs!! I just don't want the "Mom and Pop" homeowners who were just hosting a couple rooms in their home to get into trouble. The good thing is, these people are unlikely to be affected much, since it's their own home, and they were paying the mortgage anyways!

The address given to us was different than the actual AirBnB location and the presumed owner of the place told me and my fiance not to mention anything about Airbnb to the leasing office or anyone when we arrived we already paid several hundred dollars for the Airbnb and it was late night hrs from home with our dog so we didnt want to cancel at that point. As an attorney (now judge) let me say up front that it’s insane to rent out your home or other property via AirBnB. You have virtually no legally enforceable protections in any dispute with the guests and AirBnB offers nothing to owners/hosts in terms of resolution (certainly not financial remuneration). When things go wrong, and eventually they always go wrong if you rent out your property long enough, you as owner are on your own to resolve the issues, whether it’s evicting guests turned squatters (and it happens a LOT, even pre Covid) or recouping damages AirBnB disputes and/or doesn’t cover. On a personal note, I’d sooner go back to staying in youth hostels while traveling than use AirBnB again as a guest. Every experience in 4 different cities in 2 countries has been its own unique hell. And far from money saving. I’ll stick to the Ritz. Hell I’ll stick to a Red Roof Inn compared to some of the shit holes I’ve wound up baited and switched into😂

The Airbnb house we rented for Thanksgiving week gave us a bill that was $3,000 more than the whole week of renting the cabin. We contacted Airbnb and they said they weren’t allowed to get involved. The owner of the property had us. It was 1 month before the time we’d be there and there were no other places available. We had family meeting us there. They said the price of the rental was for just two people and the extra $3000 was $500 for the extra 6 people, even though they listed it as an 11-person cabin.

It was fair for the extra cost. When you book a hotel room, you are charged depending on the amount of guests. You booked for two, but had eight people. The cost is to cover, more cleaning, more water usage (some places charge for how much water used vs flat rate) more hydro etc. Basically you didn't adhere to the contract you signed.

I’ve stayed in 1 Airbnb in Toronto and the host told us not to talk to the front desk guy. Definitely wasn’t allowed to be running an Airbnb and he fucked up by giving us the wrong entry code so we call him as instructed but the front desk guy came out to ask us what we were doing if we needed help so I told him why we were there and he let us in the building and when the dude called me back and I told him that he seemed a little panicked. Not to mention that the “lock” on the door wasn’t even connected I thought I had broke it somehow, but upon inspection there was nothing holding it in place.

"Legally the landlords can't do anything about this"
Imagine paying off your mortgage, by committing to a 20 year contract, making monthly payments and more than 50% of your monthly wages going towards paying off your mortgage payments!
Then being notified, that from a legal standpoint, you have no power if you're property is comprised, contract agreements are breached by the tenant!
AirBnB is siding with the tenant who illegally listed the property on the platform. And not taking in account the viewpoint of the legal owners of the property!

The squatter may leave if they are uncomfortable.

    • @Lifewithemerson323
      @Lifewithemerson323 3 года назад +2

No that cannot be done because knowing a squatter comes to your unit and has stayed there more then 30 days and you cut off water and electricity you can face a lawsuit as the owner. A lot of laws that protect tenants in California. Remember a squatter if he is there a week and you find him in there then you can call the cops to kick him out. Other then that you can’t if the 30 days pass.

    • @jj4christ

But the landlords shouldn’t be paying water & electricity. The billing should be mailed to the address listing the original tenants on the lease as the ones footing the bill. Let the squatters deal with it. If they complain tell them to go and change it over to their names.

They need to quickly modify laws to take these issues into account and make it illegal. The owners of the house should move in, give an immediate 1 month eviction notice and make life a living hell for the one month, also requiring payment. If any damages, sue. They should also have audio and video camera's set up everywhere in the house and call the police literally every single time there is any damage or talking back from the people staying there illegally (yes, illegally...b/c they agreed to pay rent in order to stay there but they're not). And people need to band together and sue Airbnb.
